LeBron's one of the smartest players in the NBA, he'll be fine. He's already changed his game a considerable amount.

He's started to play on the block more than he ever did earlier in his career and was completely dominant. He still has a lot of room to improve down there, which is terrifying.

Definitely agree, but while they might not be the athletes Lebron is (who is really?), they are both still elite level in terms of athleticism and body control. But you're right in what really has set them apart and allowed them to have success over such a long period of time is their adjustment to age and just learning the fine points of the game so well (for example Kobe and MJ might have the best footwork ever for guards). Will definitely be interesting to see how the Lebrons and Dwights adjust. I tend to think Lebron will be fine because he will always be incredibly strong, have elite passing skills and, unless he sustains a terrible injury, will always be very athletic. Dwight on the other hand will be interesting considering he already has had the back issues and just the fact that big men tend to break down a lot easier than guards.

edit: agree with everyone that Lebron has adjusted his game and can certainly get better if he continues in this direction...unreal.

If MJ/Kobe are shooters and James is a finisher, how could you possible try to compare the two or three if their games are so different.

All this discussion did was piss me off that the Pistons beat the Heat in 05. That team was so much awesomer than the championship team. And Shaq averaged 20/9/2 (18/10 in the playoffs) that year so gtfo acting like he rode Wade that season. The finals yea because Wade became the greatest player on Earth, but he was still great that year (not shaq great but still great).

That 04-05 team was easily my favorite. The 03-04 team was awesome too. I miss young Wade. The championship this year was kind of anticlimactic. It was expecting and it was more a relief that anything so people would **** about LeBron.

Much more excited about this year. LBJ at the 4 and Bosh at the 5 is going to be ******* awesome. Wade with a new knee, Mario and Cole developing (hopefully), Ray freaking Allen off the bench. Bring it Lake Show.

Kobe is by far the second best shooting guard of all time, and is only second to the greatest player of all time. Lebron is an all-time great as well, but eric's right, it's impossible to argue between two guys whose primes were at different stages and that play different positions.
I didn't even really mean it like that....I honestly think Lebron is better than Kobe and when it's all said and done will be knocking on Jordan's door. They're both wing players who dominate the ball, their primes didnt happen at the SAME time, but they definitely overlapped.

Those points about Kobe re-inventing that someone made are very good, though. That's something that he is similar to Jordan in. He's had a few different "peaks" in his career, and all of them came with a modified game.

Lebron has definitely changed his game, too, though.

Also, this is somewhat of a sidenote, but I've been thinking (a lot) lately about how Len Bias' death was the real thing that allowed Jordan to run rampant and get 6 rings. Jordan really lost his rival before he even had a chance to step on the court. Most all-time greats in the NBA simply do not win every Finals they appear in...Bird and Magic were both around .500 in Finals I believe.

Think about it...Bias easily extends the careers of Bird and McHale for those late 80s Celtics teams, and they probably knock MJ out of playoffs a few more times.

If the Knicks never left the bench vs Miami, we wouldve easily beat the Bulls that year too. We went 4-0 in dominant fashion vs the Bulls that season.

Jordan owes a thank you letter to the Heat for that one.

It's true! That year, we dominated the Bulls. It was our best Knicks team of the 90s. They owe PJ Brown a thank you card.

The next year Ewing shatters his wrist and is never the same. That was our year.

Jordan knows it. He didn't want it with us that year.

Anyway, this year is OUR year. So it's all good.

Did you ever watch Kobe early in his career? He was a very athletic finisher, as was MJ...they were both very flashy. They didnt come into the league as the type of player they became towards their prime/end of career.

And the complete opposite happened to LBJ. He came in as a shooter then he understood that he was a much better finisher, around the paint type. Which he is becoming.

Let me rephrase it. He would always settle for the jump shot. Which was a major concern in his game

eh. kind of. but that's because teams would stack the middle and he was on garbage teams and had to take the jumpers. He was never a jump shooter and his game is so much different than Kobe's and MJ's.

his new improvement is him realizing he's a ******* mack truck with the quickness of a cheetah and is going to work the block and ruin the NBA

Indeed. If LeBron ever develops his perimeter game further we might as well all just pack up and leave.

That was my original point. LBJ is a PF with the speed of a SG. Sure he can play PG, but that isn't where he will be at his upmost best. He will be in the post. I see his rebound numbers going to 9-10 while his assist numbers going down.

Kobe and MJ I would classify as SG/PG. They're on the outside

I see Miami running sets with Allen as the ball handler. That could be the very reason they signed him

Wat? Ray Allen was brought in to shoot 3s and open up the offense. Why in the world would they sign him to be the primary ball handler? That's still going to be LeBron and Wade (and I guess Chalmers and Cole some too).
