Well whatever it's why I hate the NBA. All I know is that the easiest sport to pick a winner.

Yes, they paid a lot of money to retain some of their more talented guys, but that is what even smaller market teams are becoming better at doing (see the Rays with Longo/Matt Moore, the Reds with Votto, the Pirates with McCutchen, the Brewers with Braun, the Rockies with Tulo/CarGo, the Rangers with Kinsler).

And Zak is right, it's about championships. Since the Tigers last won a World Series, SEVENTEEN teams have won. That's more than half the league, the list of which includes several teams stuck in the mud or seem to be that way (Royals, Blue Jays, Mets). And you see smart teams right now developing and making it to the playoffs, like the Nationals, the Athletics, and the Reds. They just happened to choke it away in the end.

The Rays are by far the smartest organization in baseball, and they still haven't won a World Series. Billy Beane is considered a genius, and he hasn't won one either.

Brian Cashman? He's won four, and has a really good shot at five.

But, no, the system isn't broken.

If I were a Mets fan, I might be fooled into believing that you can spend a lot of money and still suck, but that's not the norm. It takes a special kind of ineptitude.

It's one team over 15 years that has won that much.

The playoffs are a giant crapshoot, it's why the Cardinals keep sneaking in and winning like Ric Flair in the 80s.

Yes, and one team has made it as many times as nine in the last 13 years. That's a lot of chips to play with.

I think a lot of it actually has to do with the sports themselevs. Like GF, I'm really frustrated with the NBA, but a lot of it has to do with the fact that you only play 5 players at a time and the performance of each player per game is somewhat predictable. While baseball does have issues with teams that massively outspend the others, a lot more players come into play and the performance of these players is very unpredictable from game to game. Even the biggest stud players can easily have little to no impact on a baseball game. With the football there are a TON of different players and a hardcap. That being said the teams that perform well have been very predictable, but I find that to be attributable to who has the best front offices, coaching staffs, and have hit on a star QB. That being said, the worst teams will always have their chance to draft a star QB, and a QB's performance does depend a lot on the players around them. Because of these things football's predictability bothers me FAR less than the NBA, where stars force their way to big markets and instantly make a heavy impact on the league.

There was 1 dynasty. 15 years ago. The 2009 Yanks were an outlier. Notice the Yanks have only won 1 WS since they have the increased payroll.

It was the most games above .500 in August to finish the season below .500. Or something along those lines.
