The Office should make this its final season and then split off into a bunch of spinoff shows. Dwight will have his farm show, Jim and Daryl start a sports agency, Meredith starts a show about hooking, Oscar has a show about being a *** man that dates a politician and they end up making a *** politician show...Creed ends up doing cameos in all the shows on a regular basis.

I think that thing is over. He signed the adoption letter, added a few nice sentences. I think their dynamic is drastically going to change for here on out.

"Here Comes Treble" was a lousy episode overall, mostly because it was all about the worst character on the show, Andy.
What a waste of time hyping Stephen Colbert's appearance if he wasn't even live acting in the office. Pathetic.

What was the deal with the weird Toby moment last night?

They need to just end the Andy-Erin relationship since they're going to great lengths to demonstrate how Erin is wising up to Andy's idiocy. Their reunion was a slow-build triumphant moment last season (to the writers, not the viewers) and now they're blowing it up? It's fine by me, but it shows how stupid the narrative writing has gotten for this show to immediately double back on it.

Apparently NBC has passed on the Dwight spin-off.
NBC finally makes a good decision.

This thread died, but oh well.
Anyone notice the change in the opening credits. No more Andy/office boss knocking the statue off his desk, replaced with a Pam and Jim kiss. Interesting. I hadn't heard that Ed Helms was off the show, but he's been absent a lot.
Thought this was a great episode tonight (except the final tag). A sensible version of Dwight was a treat. Loved his ridiculous friend, too.

I did notice that. I don't think Ed Helms is off the show. They are jsut trying to center it more on Jim and Pam.
As for the Episode... I freaking loved it. Every character had an awesome part. I loved Oscar freaking out. Angela being evil was great. I almost died when they showed Dwight naked. Stanley's lines like "What's my birthday" or "I want the surf and turf with a side of lobster" were hilarious. Even the Chinese guy in the warehouse was funny.
I actually liked the final tag. Dwight and Angela's questions about homosexuality were funny and actually in their character. Remember when a few seasons ago Dwight asked Toby where the clitoris is. Same concept.

This explains:
From Alan Sepinwall at HitFix:

Andy's off on his boat so that Ed Helms could go and do a movie (just as Jim's time in Philly will be used to justify the same for Krasinski)

In reading the episode review on AV Club, the reviewer argued that the show's "jump the shark" moment was when Michael drove his car into the lake in Episode 4x6/7 "Dunder Mifflin Infinity."
While I agree with that being something of a bad moment, I think the show maintained enough of the original charm and style of the early seasons for about another season after that. "Money," which came two episodes after he drove into the lake, is one of the all-time classics, as is "Dinner Party" individual episodes of the strike-shortened Season 4.
For me, the most obvious point of when the show was truly changed/broken was "Stress Relief," episode 5x14/15, which aired after the Super Bowl. That one ushered in some really, really broad characterizations, zany and overly showy plots and arguably the first in a series of regrettable guest stars (Jack Black, Jessica Alba via some stupid movie). Given that it aired after the Super Bowl, you can sort of forgive them for going all out to try to pull in viewers, but it never broke away from that with few exceptions (Michael Scott Paper Company arc).
I'm curious what you guys think ... When did "The Office" exit its prime?

From best to worst, I think I rank the seasons like this:
2, 3, 4, 5, 1, 9, 7, 6, 8

I actually liked season five a lot. The first time the show really pissed me off was Pam & Jim's wedding. They had been building to that moment for over five years and mad a complete joke of it. I didn't love the Michael-Pam's mom story-arc but there were a few good episodes later in the season. So I'd say the beginning of season 6 is when is left it's prime.
As for ranking the seasons, I'd say 8, 6, 7, 4, 1 (great season, just too short to rank higher), 9, 5, 2, 3 from worst to first. I am actually really enjoying thise season.
My favorite episodes, it was hard to come up with them off the top of my head:
Halloween
The Injury
Initiation
Business School
Product Recall
Dinner Party
Goodbye Toby
The Surplus
Diversity Day
Dwight's Speech
The Deposition
Money
Gossip
Scott's Tots

I've gotta say, I don't really miss Kelly and Ryan this season. They were once good characters, but the often seemed inessential the last couple seasons. It barely registered to me that Kelly was gone last night. At least they both exited at the same time, which is probably why I don't notice as much.
Also, Gabe has been M.I.A. too lately ... I don't mind. I hate that they wrote him too similarly to Creed at times.

I liked Ryan a lot more before he got fired than after. Kelly was always one of my least favorite characters. I don't miss them.

Interesting thoughts Vidae. I thought the Michael Scott Paper Company arc was great.

I miss Kelly and Ryan. Not that they were that great, but they were good for one quick laugh per episode. They just fit so well together. Even the one scene they were in this year was awesome.

Maybe, but I thought Season 4 itself had several of the greatest Office episodes — Dinner Party, The Deposition, Goodbye Toby, Chair Model, Money, Local Ad ... All very good episodes.
As soon as Holly departed the first time, early-to-mid Season 5, the show declined steadily.

Last night's episode didn't suck! Think its no coincidence between it not sucking and Andy being not being in it. But also STANLEY!!!!!!!!!! Welcome back buddy! That was awesome. "I want the surf and turf with a side of lobster." "It comes with lobster already." "NOT ENOUGH! Side order!"
Only complaint: I wanted to hear at least some complaints about Creed and Kevin, they have to have hundreds.

Yeah, it was okay I guess. It was pretty funny, but it honestly didn't hold a candle to anything that came before it. For me anyway.

Season 4 was really good. It was one of my favorite seasons and I was really excited for s5. And then s5 got there and... bleh.

I don't remember the Michael Scott Paper Company arc for its humor so much as its clever plotting. The twist in "Broke" is one of the most well-executed surprises I've seen in a comedy.
