I didn't read through a lot of the responses in this thread but are you guys seriously mad about this? Disney is a huge company that's willing to shell out millions of dollars to produce an amazing product. They're not going to skimp on the bills for a franchise as big as star wars.
George Lucas is horrible now and ruining his own franchises.
LOOK AT ************* INDIANA JONES!
You guys just associate Disney with cartoons and feel good movies while majority of that is true, that's not all they do.
God dammit, George Lucas has now sold out twice. That useless bastard just had to go and milk it for all it was worth. No good will come of this. There will be 9000 Star Wars movies, TV shows, video games...It's just going to cheapen it. DAMN YOU LUCAS!
You're worried about Disney whoring it out worse than Lucas? Silly canucklehead.

I wonder what that conversation is going like on the bench with Sanchez.

For a hilarious and very accurate review of the last 3 star wars movies, red letter media does a great job.
Yes there are several parts but they are all worth it.

I like this move. But mostly because I don't really have fan ties with Star Wars. Although I am not really too big of a fan of sci-fi, the epic scale that Star Wars would bring would have immense potential for greatness. If it doesn't live up to said potential and is nothing more than further movies made purely for money, then I truthfully won't care too much because of my aforementioned lack of connection for the series. I can understand however the deep apprehension true fans may have, but for me personally, I like it.
I'd be shocked if Lucas didn't get something out of the sale that says he will always have a strong creative influence in anything star wars until he dies so I don't think we'll be rid of him altogether. That being said, hopefully new writers will help spice up the dialogue some.
Someone in my facebook feed had a quote saying they would retain him as a creative advisor, but I have no source nor do I know what that would even mean. Hopefully it is either false, or a meaningless title.

Read the article linked in the first post. He will be a creative consultant on the film and others from LucasFilms will remain to work on the film.
At first I wasn't sure about this and it sounded bad, but I actually have more faith in Disney at this point than Lucas. Plus Disney land is gonna get even more Star Wars stuff which should be cool.
Disney will be willing and able to explore different projects. Disney doesn't need to just make money of an individual film/tv show because they know that they can use it to build value for the brand in other ways.
Anybody who thinks that this is a bad thing is completely out of their mind. George Lucas is terrible at executing his vision. The company that just put out the Avengers and has rebuilt Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, etc now has access to an even bigger fan-base. This is great news.
This gives us a shot at KOTOR, The Force Unleashed, or a new Trilogy. Also, with Lucas only serving as consultant and Disney running the show, the odds of us ending up with Gungans and killing off the best characters just went way down.
Now that I think about it...this has got to just be a way for them to green light the long time in development TV show. They already have 100 episodes written, they were just too costly for TV. Now, they can make a billion dollars with one movie, and then air the other episodes on Disney or ABC and sell a ton of toys. Literally all of the prep work was pretty much done for 100 episodes, so that's like 70 hrs worth of movies.
This is a great thing. Yeah Lucas will be a "consultant" but Disney didn't pay $4 billion to let him make more ****** Star Wars movies. He will be a figurehead for a while and will fade, and the better creative minds will make movies (or maybe TV shows, OMG a weekly Star Wars show that is actually GOOD would be INCREDIBLE) that are actually worth watching.
There are dozens of Star Wars books out there, some of them very good. It wouldn't be hard to make some of those into movies.
