I think that if they do an Episode VII...it will completely kill existing canon. The Expanded Universe will be altered and the books will become obsolete. Its not a bad thing though, the books served their purpose and had their time.

I remember enjoying those, but yes there is probably too much Luke/Leia/Han involvement. Can't have senior citizens running around trying to be action stars.

Now, according to E! Online, a Lucasfilm source said that the plot of the film will be "an original story." This means that Episode VII will not be an adaptation of any existing licensed Star Wars material. So, for those of you with your hearts set on that Thrawn Trilogy, I'm afraid your dreams reside in the Netherworld of the Force.

One person who might have a clue is Dale Pollock, author of the unauthorized biography Skywalking: The Life And Films Of George Lucas. In a chat with TheWrap, Pollock revealed that he was able to read the outlines to Episodes VII, VIII and IX, but had to sign a confidentiality agreement preventing him from revealing the specifics of their contents.

“It was originally a 12-part saga,” recalled Pollock. “The three most exciting stories were 7, 8 and 9. They had propulsive action, really interesting new worlds, new characters. I remember thinking, ‘I want to see these 3 movies.’” He added that an older version of Luke Skywalker appears in the final trilogy.

Not sure if this has been talked about in this thread already, but is there is a possibility that the initial trilogy in it's original theatrical format finally gets re-released?

I'm not sure how I feel about this move. But I kind of like and I kind of don't.I can see this going bad or good if Disney does a good job with the first movie. It is gonna be a long wait for star wars fans to get to the that point of movie wishing a and actors / characters points or maybe they are there already who knows. In the long run I think it would be a good pace for new people to work on star wars for the fans especially. It brings out new tv shows , games and toys like all of you stated.so I can't wait .

Fox actually completely owns the rights to the original trilogy until like 2020ish(give or take 2 years). That's probably why Lucas has been tinkering with everything so it can be a different type of movie and he could make more money from it.

Are you surprised? It is going to be a Disney movie. Beiber will find his way in it somehow.

Meh, Efron has been trying to distance himself from Disney overall so it would kinda be a surprise if he came back, although if it was for Star Wars, it would be less surprising.

I think what's a bit more telling is that they are all rumored to be playing Luke/Leia/Han roles, which would mean episode VII will be picking up not long after the Battle of Endor.

They could be playing Jacen, Jiana, and Anakin Solo roles.

You'll probably hear rumors of every actor interested in a Star Wars gig. It's freaking Star Wars. Who'd have thought Samuel L. Jackson would have wanted to be a bad-ass Jedi, but lo and behold here comes Mace Windu. Everyone wants in Star Wars.

SamJackson is a bad example because that ************ will be in any movie that pays him.

Ryan Roberts?

Emma Stone would make me happy. Can't say I'd be a fan of Efron at all, although admittedly that's based on his past roles.

I think this was the same guy who leaked the news that Lucas was planning a new trilogy to pay for the tv shows a few years ago. Anyway, here's a story and email explaining what he knows. Its very very vague and I wouldn't qualify it as being spoiler necessary, but I'm doing it out of respect. It basically just says stuff that any Star Wars fan already knows. I'm quoting the entire article...

wow. that would be a dick move.

Pollock also indicated that the upcoming episodes would involve a Luke Skywalker in his 30s and 40s. If this information is accurate, then it would seem to rule Mark Hamill out for the role, since he is now in his sixties. Pollock also didn’t think Lucas would use Mark Hamill, but he gave the reason as that the director was dissatisfied with Hamill’s performance in the other Star Wars films.
Weird because since Star Wars, Hamill has grown into one of the most talented voice actors in the business. If he's not on the screen, then he needs to be voicing some of the CGI characters.

As for the Efron rumors...
http://www.ok.co.uk/bizarre/view/556...ar-Wars-films/

Basically he's the odds on favorite because a bookie placed his odds as the favorite.

Since they are focusing on appealing to fans of the first trilogy, I'd assume that they'll cast actors that will test better to hardcore fans and leave the disney people behind.

Cast
Luke(30-50 years old)
-Mark Hamill and CGI. He was cast in Secret Service and might be upping his profile.
-Recast?

Han(50-70 years old)
-Harrison Ford...hear me baby hold together...
-Recast?

Leia(30-50 years old)
-Recast...no way would it be Carrie the Hutt.

Chewie(220+ years old)
-I'd say its a lock for Peter Mayhew and stunt doubles to reprise him.

R2D2 and C3PO
-Probably solid locks to return

Current pool of Star Wars fans and rumors for Next Gen Characters
-Zach Efron, Jamie Bell, Shia Lebeouf, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone

All I'm saying is EVERYBODY wants to be in Star Wars.

Personally I'd rather see a recast take up right after Return of the Jedi. At the end of the day the success of Star Wars begins and ends with its name, so hopefully they'll focus their attention on writing a good script and hiring good (preferably no-name) actors.

I'm available.

And I swear I could have done Anakin better than Hayden Christenson.
