Hypothetical. Trading for Andrew Luck.
We now have eight games to judge Andrew Luck by and he is as good as advertised. Let's say I am the 49ers GM and I was desperate to trade for a franchise QB to get my team to the next level. I am curious to see what people think you would have to offer the Colts to get them to trade Andrew Luck.
My first hunch is that there is really no trade offer the Colts would entertain for Luck. How do you let go of a potential franchise QB for the next 12+ years. But I am curious what others think. Maybe Aldon Smith or Patrick Willis plus Alex Smith plus some draft picks? Is there a reasonable package the 49ers could offer?

Your first hunch is correct.

At least. Colts wouldn't even consider it, because there won't be a quarterback of Luck's caliber to come out for another 15 years.

What a terrible PR move for the Colts that would be, even if they did have an offer like 10 first round picks.
There is nothing any team can offer that would be enough to acquire Andrew Luck.

Ok I guess it was a stupid question. Patrick Willis and Aldon Smith are elite MLB's and pass rushers, respectively, and both are at their prime. They could provide an immediate boost to the Indianapolis team. But after watching them play against the Dolphins, it is hard to see a couple defensive players having the impact that Luck had on that game.
I was curious as to what people thought would be needed to move Andrew Luck. Maybe you would have to give up something in the neighborhood of Aaron Rodgers.

It would take Tom Brady, Chandler Jones, Nate Solder, Rajon Rondo, Dustin Pedroia, and Marky Mark.

Three first round picks for the same draft, two future first round picks, and a veteran-ish quarterback.
St. Louis, I'm looking at you.

If I'm the Colts, and I even did want to entertain this trade, I'd be thinking how does losing Andrew Luck help me. Honestly I'd have to get a franchise quarterback in return. Probably someone that was a little older plus a few picks/players.

How about the first round pick every season until Luck retires.

The part I don't get is why would the 49ers want to trade Alex Smith?

I actually disagree. There is no way the Colts would move Luck. I don't care what they get in return.

12983491732987123987 gazillion dollars? Too much?
Then I'm sure there's something in between.

Ask Phil Simms to spearhead the trade. He seems to know what he was talking about regarding Andrew Luck.

If I was running the Colts the only way I'm trading Andrew Luck is if I'm trading my entire damn franchise with him.
Say the Giants, Cowboys or one of the other billion (multi?) dollar franchises comes calling, I'll trade them the Colts for the Giants.
Otherwise... I would just smile as I slowly hang up the phone because there is just no reason to let a guy like Luck go, he is worth more to the franchise than anything they could trade him for.

Lol gotta love hypothetical questions. There is no offer they would do to trade Luck at this point, absolutely none. In fact there was no offer they would have taken prior to the draft, let alone after 8 games. I don't care if they had two first rounders for the next 15 years, I'm pretty sure every team in the league if given the choice would take Luck over no franchise QB and multiple 1st every year.
He's the face of that team, franchise, and a leader already. It goes well beyond how good he actually is. If that was the case and I'm the Cowboys I'd give them Romo, Ware, Claiborne, well honestly they could pick their top 4 players off our team including a 1st rounder for 15 years and they still wouldn't have any interest.
I'm pretty sure you can't even trade for Luck on Madden so....

I said this weeks ago and it's still true: Andrew Luck is the most valuable football player on the planet,in terms of trade value. Even more valuable than Aaron Rodgers, because Luck is 6 years younger.

Every draft pick for 15 years *might* get the Colts to the negotiating table.
