I prefer the action hero one liner spouting Brosnan Bond to the new ones. It's not that the new ones are bad, but I grew up with the explosive popcorn action bond movies. Its like how my mom sees the value of the new Batman movies, but she grew up with the campy tv show so the new stuff just doesn't vibe.
Limitless was a solid popcorn movie. It has flaws, but its not a movie I'm going to think about for more than a few hours. I enjoyed my 2 hours and was good with that.

Skyfall was really, really good. Just a little bit below Casino Royale, but definitely one of the best Bond movies I've seen.

i still don't understand why everyone liked casino royale so much. the idiotic poker scene eviscerated that movie. i'm not sure there was a single connery-bond that i wouldn't put well over either of the first two craig versions.

Casino is hands down my favorite Bond movie, and I think since alot of people were comparing skyfall to casino I went in expecting it to be as good and ended up being disappointed.

Oh shut the hell up, you like Roger Moore more than Craig. Moore is legitimately the least interesting Bond of all time, even behind Dalton.

Who cares? I'm not watching Bond for a character study of an alcoholic sex-addict spy. I'm watching it for simple fun and badassery. Moore was fun. No one comes close to Connery, but Moore was still fun, Dalton took the fun out of the role, Brosnan was just bad, Lazenby never played James Bond and Craig's too badass, not enough fun, still my third favorite.

So you don't watch for a superior and more character based movie, just a mindless movie where you don't have to think?

Isn't that what Bond movies are for?

With James Bond? **** no. I love plenty of films that are fascinating to think about, and I love plenty of films because they're dumb fun, I even love plenty of films that mesh the two well, but James Bond is simple fun, even when Connery had the role.

They can evolve. Batman movies did.

But Batman's different. There's plenty of spy movies out there that are interesting and thought provoking, you don't need to take the already established character of James Bond and change him to tell those stories.

There's nothing wrong with changing the formula to make a more compelling movie. There's been more than 20 Bond movies now, some times characters need to adapt to the times.

I don't disagree with that, but I don't think the new films are more compelling. The Connery and Moore Bonds are still my favorites because they were more fun. And you can still do a fun Bond in our time. Hell the culture now is much more open to ridiculousness and over-the-top fun in our action. Otherwise we wouldn't be loving out films like Taken, Inglorious Basterds or Shoot Em Up.

Inglorious Basterds doesn't really fit in that category, because it was still a very dialogue heavy movie. And I do still find the Craig films incredibly entertaining, at least more than any Bond since On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Loved Garden State. Check that **** out.
I was talking to some people at a party about Synecdoche, New York and I then had to watch the movie once again. Just gets better every time. My sentimental favorite film.
