Devin Gardner: The New Ryan Tannehill?

His situation is slightly different than Tannehill's. IIrc, Tannehill made a full-time move to wide receiver before his freshman year and spent two whole years at the position. Gardner spent his first two seasons as a quarterback and just moved to receiver prior to this season, with the understanding that he would go back to quarterback after Denard Robinson graduated.

As impressive as Gardner has been in the last two games, I don't envision him ever being the prospect that Tannehill was. Gardner definitely has some mechanical issues and his ability to read coverages is inconsistent at best. With that said, his arm talent and mobility are very intriguing.

I wouldn't go and compare him to Tannehill just yet, but his arm talent and mobility immediately make him a draftable prospect. If the draft were today, I'd consider him as a late-round pick or a (high) priority free-agent. It might be ideal to put him on the scout team for a year.

Gardner has one (maybe two) more years. He could easily fly up the draftboards. It's not like we've never seen it happen.

Ryan Tannehill was actually a really high draft pick because he's really good at playing QB. You must be thinking of Reggie McNeal. Same school, so it's an understandable mistake.

His arm has always been better than DRob's in terms of strength, but as others has noted, he is lacking basically everywhere except in physical tools.

Devin looked really good again yesterday. We'll see if he starts against Ohio State next week and how he does, but he definitely looks like someone to keep an eye on next year.
