Yeah, what he's done with McGloin has been amazing. I'm really interested to see what all he can do with Christian Hackenburg. I know they're also recruiting Jake Waters to come in, so if he does decide on PSU, that could make this next season very interesting.

Obrien is really working wonders with the turdburger he was served.

BTW, rumors are starting to float out there about O'Brien heading to the NFL. That would be a huge blow to PSU and the B1G.

Too many **** coaches in the conference, which is angering considering how much money every school collects on the backs of the big viewership schools that bring in the eyeballs.

I know he's not answering the question right now, but I truly don't think he's going to the NFL already. With that said, I've been wrong before.

O'Brien should leave now. Even though Penn State is doing way better than I expected, I still think this is going to be his best team for the next 4-5 years. His stock isn't going to get much higher than it is now

So who is going to be B1G coach of the year? O'Brien has done a great job, but still, he's lost 4 games (maybe 5 depending on what happens against the Badgers) including to a MAC team at home. Meyer took a team that was 6-7 last year and could go 12-0 if he beats Michigan. Interesting topic. I'm biased, but I wanna know what an unbiased fan thinks.

I'd have to give it to Meyer. That team would be playing for a national championship without the post-season ban.

PSU will lose the QB, 2 O-Linemen (Center and RT), a DE(Stanley), a DT(Jordan Hill), 2 LB's(Mauti/Hodges), and 1 CB(Morris).

Losing 8 starters, and returning 14.

Returning are all WR's, TE's, and RB's. Additionally, WR Lewis, and RB Akeel Lynch are believed to be good future players that RS this season due to depth at their position and could perhaps start in 2013 or at least get significant PT.
Overall, the O-L might be as good.

All LB's will have experience. Barnes is really starting to become a pretty good DE for Penn State. Amos should continue to improve, as well as Obeng, and Willis. There has been significant improvement with them this season, as they have gone from a zone focused defense to more of a man-to-man scheme.

We lose Hill, but Jones is back and there seems to be experienced back-ups at DE and DT.

In summary,
-an expected downgrading at QB, DL(slight), LB(slight).
-Roughly equal at O-L.
-Upgrade at RB, WR, TE, DB(Slight), and DE.

QB might not end up being a drop at all if PSU can pull in the JuCo QB from Western Iowa (Jake Waters, down to PSU and KSU after visit). He had 72% completion, 3194 yards, 39 TDs and 3 INTs in this past season alone.

Still though, O'Brien is bringing in Breneman and Hackenburg on offense with Tyler Boyd taking an unofficial visit to PSU this weekend, so he could end up choosing PSU still.

The team will be thin in the future, but barring transfers this off season (not expecting many except for maybe Belton since he just doesn't fit this scheme), it's not like O'Brien is going to have terrible seasons ahead of him. Many of the playmakers on this team are either RS Freshman or Sophomores (Donovan Smith FR, Allen Robinson SO, Zack Zwinak SO, Adrian Amos SO, Kyle Carter & Jesse James FR, Mike Hull SO).

Aug. 31 vs. Syracuse - W
Sept. 7 - EASTERN MICHIGAN - W
Sept. 14 - VIRGINIA - W
Sept. 21 - KENT STATE - W, although I don't know how much they lose
Oct. 5 at Indiana - W
Oct. 12 - MICHIGAN - L
Oct. 26 at Ohio State - L
Nov. 2 - ILLINOIS - W
Nov. 9 at Minnesota - W
Nov. 16 - PURDUE - W
Nov. 23 - NEBRASKA - L
Nov. 30 at Wisconsin - L

That's an 8-4 season.

Here is how stupid/petty/jealous the B1G coaches and media are.

yeah, it's total ********. Tressel never won COY once, and he was clearly the best coach in the Big Ten his entire career. Urban outcoached every other coach in the conference by far this year and went undefeated with a team taht was 6-7 last year.

It is now officially not possible to win Big Ten COY at Ohio State.

...Braxton Miller won OPOY and John Simon won DPOY though.

I guess taking a team that went 9-4 the year before and going 8-4 the next year with it despite not losing that many contributers is COY worthy but taking a team that went 6-7 and was pathetic down the stretch last year and going unbeaten isn't.

Seriously though, O'Brien has been fantastic, well-deserved.

I have no problem with the job O'Brien did. it was just a pity award. There were plenty of sour grapes towards OSU in the Big Ten awards this year. Braxton won OPOY and QB of the year but the sore ass coaches voted him 2nd team.

Good news guys, Kirk Ferentz is signed through 2020 and his buyout is about $21 million. So he can continue to win a COY award once every 4-5 years.

Also, in a recent press conference he said the only way to know who will be the better QB on our roster next year is to see how they do on the field in September. Minutes later he was asked why, despite our offensive struggles and QB struggles, we went the entire season with only 1 QB taking a snap. Kirk's response? Getting our backup snaps this season is overrated.

(I don't want him fired, but it's still ridiculous.)

Sounds like Georgia Tech might be the 15th member of the B1G before long. I never thought Atlanta would ever in my wildest dreams be big ten country, haha. I can't complain, driving three hours to see Ohio State play beats driving ten....(though The Shoe is worth the extra 7).

That would be the only benefit I could see. But I'll be out of Charleston long before Ohio State plays at Georgia Tech.

Still don't want any parts of a city like Atlanta or a team like Georgia Tech in the Big Ten. Just way to big of a mismatch for me. Don't like it, never will. Don't care about money or academics or the reasons we will hear. This will not make watching Big Ten football better which is all I care about.

According to the AP, they wouldn't. (They are the #4 team in the AP)

Yeah, Ohio State fans keep saying this, but it's not true. The SEC champ would get in over Ohio State. Their schedule is simply too weak and most of their wins are unconvincing.

Lol wut? 8 starters on defense, 9 on offense, the K/P, plus a TON of backups that saw the field a lot last year (particularly at the skill positions). But you're right, didn't lose that many contributors.

Also, just because O'Brien won, doesn't mean Meyer wasn't worthy. There were two coaches in the B1G that were worthy this year. I actually would have voted for Meyer because he went UNDEFEATED but I wasn't surprised by the result and I don't think you can really make an argument that either coach wasn't deserving.

Meh. The writers or coaches would not have them 4th if they were eligible for a bowl game.

No, they wouldn't. And neither of us can prove it. We can't know how people would vote in a situation that doesn't exist.

I think Ohio State would've wound up in the NC this year despite their schedule. Being ranked #4 has a lot to do with voters punishing OSU with their ranking b/c of the sanctions they are on. Voters even admit to that. ND would be #1 and OSU #2 in the polls if there were no sanctions, and that would make the BCS NC game between those two (assuming OSU would've beaten Nebraska in the B1G CG).

I don't think their wins being unconvincing would hurt them. It should, but the BCS pussied out and stopped accounting for margin of victory.

Yeah ok. Well, one of us have a bias. What I do know is that the computers most certainly would not have had Ohio State ahead of the SEC winner, which would have meant that the voters would have needed to overwhelmingly support them, which I don't see happening given their schedule and few close wins.
