We have 3 DE's who will be free agents at the end of the year.
Geathers hasn't posted more than 3.5 sacks since 2006 despite missing only 8 games.
Gilberry got to 7 2 years ago but is nothing special.
Johnson is gonna crack 10 this year in the most unimpressive double digit sack season ever and get way more money from some team than he should.
Having Geno inside is gonna make Johnson very wealthy. I see no reason Babin couldn't benefit the same way.

And signed Andre Gurode. Also working out Aaron Curry. Just a big old orgy of roster moves intended to make ChiFan24 sad.

If Gurode has anything left I guess that makes sense. I could see Curry resurrecting his career in Chicago, at least being a serviceable linebacker.

Given that it would be a true challenge to get much worse, Gurode isn't that bad. Too bad Jake Scott wasn't still available...also known as "words I never expected to say."

Good move by SF to lock up Bowman. They now have him, Willis, and Brooks signed for a while and Aldon is still on his rookie deal. I feel like its rare to keep a LB core intact for a while

Gurode sucked last year with the Ravens and lost his starting job after five games. I'm not sure signing a 34-year old in midseason whose production has already dropped off a cliff is the best idea, especially considering that he hasn't played since last year.

49ers signed ILB Navorro Bowman to a five-year, $45.25 million extension, including $25.5 million in guarantees.
|
49ers did a good job locking up their backers and their OL. I don't know their cap situation, but it looks good and I'm sure they will open up some space if they dump Alex Smith this year.
LBs
Aldon Smith (2015)
Patrick Willis (2017)
Navarro Bowman (2018)
Ahmad Brooks (2018)
OL
Staley (2018)
Iupati (2015)
Boone (2016)
Davis (2015)

Gurode was pretty bad last season. In 2011, he didn't deserve his pro bowl selection, but he was still better than average.
I doubt he'll make the line any worse than it already is, but there are formerly well-regarded guys on practice squads I'd have wanted to try first to see if they're worth having around next season. Maybe Selvish Capers? Trevor Canfield? Matt McCants?
Louis went to IR. Spencer has torn cartilage in his knee and is supposed to miss two weeks. The Bears have already declared the starters everywhere but RT:
LT J'Marcus Webb
LG Edwin Williams
C Roberto Garza
RG Gabe Carimi
Johnathan Scott played RT last week. He was a tiny improvement in pass pro, but a giant downgrade in run blocking. So...it's either him or James Brown. Gurode goes from the street to being the primary backup for the interior. He won't know the playbook at all.
Someone just take Cutler out behind the barn and shoot him already

Niners will never let Iupati walk, but I think a restructure is just about in order. He's been everything most people thought he would coming in and more.

Gurode did suck last season but he was only a starter when Grubbs was out with an injury so he didn't really lose anything.
I would really really doubt Gurode does anything positive for Chicago even with how bad their line is.

49ers just need a WR or two and follow up to Gore and we are set for a decade or so at least. Gonna be an awesome few years down the road. Let the Kaep area begin !

What are the expectations for Carimi moving to guard? It didn't seem like setting the edge was his issue. He was just getting straight up abused all around in the Monday night game, seemingly mostly from bull rushes. I don't know if changing positions will really help him all that much

Carimi was getting killed by the quickness of Aldon Smith. Carimi is better in a phone booth. OG may be his only spot.

Per a bunch of people on Twitter, Babin was claimed, waiting to hear which team.

Jags claimed Babin, per Schefter.
doesn't that mean only KC passed though, if that's how waivers work?

8 teams claimed him. Jags lowest on the totem pole.

Per Aaron Wilson twitter (@RavensInsider), no chance he was getting to a winner.
Browns, Chargers, Raiders and Dolphins also placed in waiver claims.

So your happy that you increase your chances of a higher pick? I know fans want their teams to win and be competitive, but if I'm the Jags I just want a good pick at this point.
