I haven't read a lot of this thread so I'm not sure if it was discussed and if it was I'm sorry for the redundancy. This isn't a kneejerk reaction to the Oregon game but do you guys see David Shaw as a good fit in the pros?

How about throwing a special teams coordinator out there? Darren Rizzi could be a guy to keep an eye on, he's from that Parcells/Sparano/Schiano NJ coaching tree and served under Schiano as assistant HC at Rutgers during their return to relevance. I like what I've read about him... young fiery guy, disciplinarian, attention to detail.

Not that I ever wish anyone losing there job, but oh well these guys are millionares, they should survive unemployment.
Norv Turner getting canned before the season ends, would give Rich Bassacia his well deserved audition. I thought he'd make a good head coach some day and am surprised he hasn't gotten any serious looks from nfl clubs.

Yeah, I always roll my eyes when someone gets pissy about talking about coach firings in the NFL or high level college football.
I look at it more like elected office. At best, these guys have 10-12 years in a job where they're compensated millions of dollars. And when they do lose their job, they often times get another one, or they step down a level and be a still-highly-compensated coordinator, or they go down to college and still make hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars, or they get a media gig where they still make a lot of money.
If Norv Turner gets fired, he's going to have teams lining up offering him offensive coordinator positions. If Andy Reid gets fired, he can name his price and take any open coaching position in the NFL next year, or get a job at ESPN where you blab your opinions on football a few days a week during the NFL season and still make out well.

The only person I feel even the least bit sorry for is Gene Smith. And that is only because he lives in my old neighborhood so I would see him at the grocery store I worked at or restaurants so I have actually met the guy. But then I see what he's done to my second favorite team and I say screw him.

I don't think Whisenhunt should be fired in Arizona even if they keep losing. The defense is playing great despite the offense punting and turning the ball over so much.
He bet on a QB and he was way wrong. He should get another shot because of how strong the defense has improved under him. The team needs to draft a QB high.

I feel like Whiz is one of those coaches who will do much, much better in his second stint as a HC. That Zona team is going to lose Ray Horton this year and I imagine that Whiz will get canned after a disappointing year next year, but he's a hell of a coach who will probably do a fine job wherever he ends up next.

I definitely agree that if he gets fired and ends up as a coach somewhere else that has a stable QB situation he'll have a lot of success.
How much control has Whisenhunt had on the draft and free agency in Arizona? Seems like a solid coach who just hasn't been able to manage a roster. Only the defense has improved since hes been there. They haven't brought in any impact players on offense besides a few okay running backs. If he was forced into Kolb I don't think he should really be blamed for the team's failures unless you expected him to turn a bunch late round hot garbage into solid QBs. He also got Leinart forced onto him since he came in the year after he got drafted if my ability to internet isn't failing me.

The Titans have hired Tom Moore as an offensive assistant. He'll help OC Dowell Loggains with the offense.

Why are the Eagles getting rid of him now? Is Reid sticking around?

It's the last ditch attempt to do something. DC gone, player gone, and now DL coach is gone. There is no way Reid survives this so everyone is going to be deleted anyways.

Seems like a pointless move at this stage of the game.

Yeah sure, THIS is the move that will right the ship. It was all Jim Washburn's fault.

At some point though, these moves would have to have been cleared by someone higher up in the power structure that isn't leaving after this season, even if it's the owner himself.
If the head coach ever wants a job in the league again, he isn't just going to burn the organization down once he realizes he is going to get fired. But in the process of trying to save his own ass, that may happen inadvertently.
The firing of Washburn (and before that, the cutting of Babin and firing of Castillo) had to have been approved by someone further up than Reid.
