This UK/Baylor matchup is sloppy as hell. It surprises me that Baylor can get highly talented big men to come to that school when they don't utilize them well at all within the system.

Lamb's transfer is also understandable as Shabazz, Adams, and Powell are all blocking his minutes and UCLA has a couple of 4 star SGs coming in next year. So for him it was either transfer or ride pine for the rest of his college career.
That being said they really have looked poor this year and its all on Howland, although I think its too early too judge right now. If they do flop this wouldn't be the first time he highly underachieves with the #1 recruiting class. He's still getting by on those couple Final 4 appearances early in his career, but if this team fails he will very likely be gone.

You're proving my point. He brings in top recruiting classes and then faulters. I don't get why people expect anything different.

Pretty sure your last point was that UCLA is imploding because they lost fatty Smith and Lamb who isn't getting any minutes off the bench. While I do thing Howland has worn out his welcome, he has been burned by guys unexpectedly leaving early. Love was expected to leave after a year, but Rus Westbrook wasn't really (a backup PG in his soph year) and Jrue Holiday was really a surprise in leaving early (after 1 year).
People expect different because he brought the team to multiple Final 4s and coached up the likes of Kevin Love, Rus Westbrook, Jrue Holiday, Aaron Afflalo, Darren Collison, and Jordan Farmar. He actually has a really good track record for producing NBA talent and the only 2 bigtime recruits out of that group were Love and Holiday.
That being said, I do think it might be time for him to go (I guess we will see this season), but saying that he simply brings in top recruiting classes and sucks is pretty uninformed.

I disagree. With the players he has brought in, he should be getting no less than a 3 seed each year in the NCAA Tournament. Also, UCLA problems are not because Smith and Lamb transferred. Their problems are because they were recruited there in the first place. Howland has recruited the wrong players, and he cannot manage them effectively.

Smith was a 5 star, McDonalds All-American center. I don't really blame Howland for recruiting him. Lamb just simply got passed on the depth chart by Shabazz, Jordan Adams, and Normal Powell.
Howland has mainly worn out his welcome because he is a hard-nosed disciplinarian and his schemes don't utilize his talent to their best ability. I'm arguing your claim that UCLA is "imploding" and highly overrated. They certainly haven't put it together yet, but it is very very early and they are implementing a ton of new parts. They very well may have a disappointing season (which would probably get Howland fired), but other young teams such as Kentucky are having similar struggles. If they are still struggling in January/February then I will be calling for Howland's head right along with you, but its not really fair to say right now.

Did you not even remotely read the post that you quoted? I guess Kentucky should just mail it in too right?

What don't you get about the fact that Kentucky has a real head coach?

UCLA fans are funny. It's not the 1970s anymore.
In the last 30 years you've made the Final Four three times. Two of those were under Howland.

Do you know what's up with Tony Parker?

Apparently he rolled his ankle before the last game, which is why he hasn't played the last 2. Doesn't sound like anything too serious from what I've heard. In terms of the games before he just looks raw right now. Smith leaving should free up some PT for him though. From what I've seen of him he looks to have a good frame and seems to be a pretty solid athlete, but will just take a bit of time to develop.

Right on - I followed his recruitment closely since I was really hoping OSU would land him after losing Sully. Now we have no consistent scoring down low. I was just curious since every time I watched UCLA this season or checked the box score he never really had anything going.

Yea, I actually hope he gets some more burn, but Howland loves to play the Wear twins who are both finesse, jump shooting bigs. Parker could add some much needed physicality down low, but we will see how it plays out.

It's only early December, but Anthony Bennett is slowly on his way to becoming the freshman of the year. He's averaging 18.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg, and 2.2 bpg in 26.7 mpg, shooting 55.4% overall and 35.7% from three as well as 78.3% from the free throw line on 7.7 apg, and ranking 8th nationally in player efficiency rating.

Northwestern upsets Baylor. This might be the year they finally make the tourney.
The B1G is king in basketball.

I thought they were going to blow that at the end, they looked so bad against Baylor's pressure the last few minutes. I really doubt they finish .500 in conference with the B1G being as good as it is.

Baylor looks legit on defense. I could see them making a run in the tourney if they can just make their shots. Austin should develop nicely.
And I think they'll actually benefit from having to play in a deep conference. Losing to UIC isn't going to help though.

They're going to have to go at least .500 in the B1G, which is no easy task. It also doesn't help that they have some bad losses.
