This is probably the only news that could have cheered me up after yesterday's shenanigans.

Dennis Allen is hanging the precipice of one and done. Mark Allen wanted to contend for the playoffs this year after two 8-8 seasons but this team islosingbadly. They aren't jut losing, they are downright uncompetitive.
Raiders may end up going the route of firing all assistants and hiring new assistants to give Allen one last chance.
I expect McKenzie is a little more patient than to fire Allen right away--especially after he gutted the team of its semi-talented players--but who knows.

Eh...Ron Wolf fired Ray Rhodes after one year, and Ted Thompson fired Mike Sherman five months after giving him an extension. If McKenzie is anything like his former bosses, Allen might as well start updating his resume.

So the lesson is "don't be the first coach hired by a current or former Packers exec?"

Rhodes was the second coach hired by Wolf. I think the lesson is "Don't suck at your job."

Well, when you are getting a team that has decimated itself by spending umpteen million draft picks on a QB and still doesn't have one worth a damn, you would think you'd be given more than a year's leeway.

Don't get me wrong, I think that they should give him at least two years, just because of the Raiders track record. If they fire a coach after one season, all of the decent candidates are going to think "same ****, different owner."
I just don't think it's going to happen that way.

Reggie McKenzie knows what he did to this roster when he got rid of the top 5 returning CBs from last year as well as the top pass rusher from last year.
Look, the guys the Raiders cut in the offseason were not Pro Bowlers and they didn't earn half the salary they were receiving, but the replacements that were signed by the Raiders were practice squad scrubs due to cap restraints.
McKenzie did not build a dynasty last year, he began the cap purge that will have to continue in the upcoming offseasons, and he knows it.
He also should know it's not Allen's fault the running game went to crap; you can blame that on Greg Knapp and Frank Pollack. This offense has been so one-dimensional and lacking in ingenuity it has placed incredible pressure on the defense when they have to come back on the field 30 seconds after forcing a punt.
I think Dennis Allen will be back. But don't expect much of the defense back. Or many of the assistants.

Lovie likely needs to get to the playoffs to keep his job, and potentially even needs to win a playoff game to keep it.
I have....mixed feelings on this. While my complaints with Lovie are many, I feel like he is in the upper half of coaches in the league so we are likely to downgrade to whoever our next coach is. (And it won't be a big name...I don't think the Bears have EVER hired a coach that had former head coaching experience at the NFL level.)
Now, I'd be all for promoting Dave Toub, but with a new GM as of last year, he probably wants to make an impact by hiring his own guy from outside the organization.
We better ******* keep Dave Toub though.

I feel like Lovie does a fantastic job managing his players. He schemes well and he gets them to play up for him. In that regard he is a top 15 maybe top 10 coach.
It's only his in-game management and brain farts that have him on the chopping block. Oh. And Mike Tice as offensive coordinator.

I agree. His defenses always execute as well as any unit in the NFL. I can understand why fans want a change, but I think the replacement would likely be a downgrade.
I think a new team would give Lovie a second chance. He was a Cutler injury away from the Super Bowl just a couple years ago.

This has been the case (or at least deep playoff run) for many years running unfortunately.
That seems to be what you get from Cutler--a couple horrific decisions away from being a franchise QB and an injury that tanks your season.

The one thing that wouldn't be too bad is that if we do hire a new coach without past head coaching experience, is that we won't suffer much of a drop off in terms of in-game management. No more taking a timeout to think about challenging something stupid!

"I think they spotted him an extra yard. Should be 1st and 10 on the 35 not the 34. Hold on, give me some time to figure out if I need to challenge this."
(Timeout)
"Yeah, I saw the replay on the Jumbotron enough. Their runner was clearly down at the 35."
(Red flag)
(Referee) "The ruling on the field is confirmed"
(Lost timeout and challenge)
"****! I will get them next time."

You joke, but these things happen. Too many times have I seen the play start, only for whistles to blow because the Bears sideline called a timeout. Then, like 3 plays later, something questionable will happen. Lovie will take the 2nd timeout, think about it, challenge it, and suddenly, no timeouts left in the half.
Most timeout wasteful team ever.

Sounds like he learned his craft well from his master, Mike Martz. There has never been anyone - no NO ONE - in the history of the NFL who wasted more timeouts than "Mad" Mike Martz.
He is still a legend in Ramdom.....

Worst defense in the NFL by far is the Saints. Does Spags keep his job after this season?

Funny how Spags wasn't a super genius in STL and NO after he left his platoon of probowl DEs in NY.

What justification could you possibly have for Pat Shurmur not making the cut?
Wait I got it, you already consider him actually fired and be doesn't even deserve mentioning, right?
Well played.

Spags has also had some epically talentless defenses since leaving NY, where we still haven't seen a defense play as well as the one's spags had despite having more talent then he ever got to work with.
