Can somebody please explain why the Diamondbacks felt the need to give up that many pitchers and not even get Cabrera out of the deal? I get DD is younger and will be under control for longer, but Cabrera is more established

Cleveland clearly wins both now and later. Cincinnati gets immediate help, but Choo is a pending free agent. Arizona ... bummertown.

Towers said that Gigi reminds him of a young Jeter. Sure, why not.

We wont need Choo after this year and Didi is blocked by Zack Cozart. This lineup looks pretty sweet though:
Choo
Phillips
Votto
Ludwick
Bruce
Frazier
Cozart
Hanigan

dumping a guy who most likely would of been in AAA for a SS who will likely start changes that?

Cleveland cannot win this now. They now have Stubbs and Reynolds in the same line up.
We win this now.
Cleveland the future.
We get the desperately needed OBP guy for Votto. And as MIB said, that lineup looks pretty sweet in GABP

how kevin towers continues to be employed amazes me. give up a potential #1 starter just because you don't like his work ethic to get an above average defensively shortstop with a decent if absolutely everything goes well bat. what a stupid ******* trade. i might jump ship to the rays or braves if he trades upton as well. towers makes it really hard to root for this franchise to succeed.

Cleveland wasn't going to win in the standings now, but their desperate need was for high-end pitching and Bauer is very near ready to go. Choo was always gonna be dealt, so you can't figure he was ever part of their 2013 lineup.
But yeah, Cincy did well, especially dealing from a position of strength (with Cozart in place).

Jay Jaffe@jay_jaffe
In their quest to accumulate light-hitting shortstops at any cost, the Diamondbacks have traded Justin Upton to 1997 for Pokey Reese.
@mlbdepthcharts:
Kevin Towers has traded Chris Young, Trevor Bauer, Matt Albers, Bryan Shaw for 2 SS’s that can’t hit, Tony Sipp, and Lars Anderson. #Dbacks
Bob Nightengale @BNightengale
The #Dbacks considered Bauer their third-best pitching prospect behind Skaggs and Corbin

It seems like there have been a lot of big moves this offseason and they're all lopsided as ****.

I really don't get the Bauer love. It is nice to get something for Choo since he was going to bolt anyway.

The funny part of it this is that Towers had been talking a good talk about not giving into trades unless he got a good deal. He definitely played hard ball with the Rangers. Jon Daniels was also playing hard ball by not being willing to give up Andrus or Profar. Daniels has an inflated opinion of Mike Olt and has been trying to pawn him off to get a trade chip that would satisfy Towers, but Daniels took too long and didn't get it done. I wonder if Towers got frustrated with the Rangers and figured he'd give 'em a stiff middle finger for not giving up Andrus or Profar, so sick of waiting, he pulled this trade off and declared Upton "untradeable" now.
He might've lost sight about how good Bauer can become and maybe let his poor opinion of Bauer affect his decision making, but this trade did put a bind into the Rangers plans. Now they are almost forced to re-sign Hamilton. I'm bummed because I was interested in seeing how Upton would've worked here.

Finally looked at the trade details, will the Reds be using Donald as a starter or will he be their utility infielder? I liked him when he was a Phillies prospect.
