Everyone hypes it up because it's the "oldest" rivalry in the game, but just because it's the oldest doesn't mean it's the best. These 2 teams only played each other ONCE in the playoffs! In all these years, they played each other once in the playoffs.
Because they're in the same division. It's not common for division rivals to play each other in the playoffs.

In the playoffs the Giants have only played the Cowboys once, the Redskins twice, though the Eagles 4 times.

Other notable division rivals playoff matchups:

Dolphins-Jets: 1
49ers-Rams: 1
Packers-Vikings: 1
Cowboys-Redskins: 2
Steelers-Browns: 2
Broncos-Raiders: 2
Steelers-Ravens: 3

The only people who are even remotely interested in it are Bears and Packer fans. A great rivalry is one that the whole nation is interested in seeing.
I'd say that for most rivalries the only fans that care are fans of the teams and maybe fans of other teams in the division. The only recent rivalries that I think really interests the whole nation are the Steelers-Ravens and Peyton's Colts-Patriots. No one outside the NFC East really cares about those rivalries, but those teams are all in big markets so they're always on primetime.
