No I didn't say that. Or rather, I didn't narrow things down like that. The best team is difficult to tell sometimes to me because not everyone plays each other in the tournament and everyone plays each other once. I still don't think the 2010 Seahawks were a better team than the 2010 Saints even though they lost in the wildcard round. Flukes happen. Sometimes, I don't think everything is clear cut destiny for certain teams despite making it a certain distance.

As for your last sentence, I'm sorry to see you feel that way. Oh well. Unfortunately, at least from me, it has nothing to do with that rhetoric.

i should qualify that: i don't necessarily mean right here, right now (or you, i'm not sure what loss you'd even be trying to excuse the 49ers for right now). but this discussion happens every time the 'right' team doesn't win the super bowl. not so much here, but i heard it *constantly* from patriots people after the near undefeated season.

Alright. Just to be clear I'm not saying the "right" team should win a championship. Like I mentioned I don't believe in a team's destiny. At the same time, I just don't think the sample size is big enough to always say that the Super Bowl champion or any team that advances in the tournament is a clear cut better team than anyone else that has been eliminated. Especially since not every team plays each other in the playoffs and not everyone's road is the same. I don't think the 1988 49ers were necessarily the best team of that year for instance. Sometimes I think there is a distinction of "better team" and "better team that day". Just how I feel. I'll just leave it at that.

The goal is to win a superbowl. To accomplish that one needs to play well and win in the playoffs, so the better team is the one that accomplishes that better. That's how tournaments work. The best team isn't always the most talented team, but the best team is the one that wins.
