Well, that was actually probably the best football we've played all year. As long as HBA stays healthy and we don't lose Ba, I see this team finishing comfortably in the 9-12 range with a potential long run in Europe. I'd take that.

This season is going to be defined by how well we do in the cup competitions. If we go out of the FA Cup and Europa League and finish mid-table, there is no way it can be seen as a success after what happened last season. But if we have a long cup run maybe getting to a final, it will be a success. If we get back to last seasons form, I could actually see us moving further up the table. We're still only 10 points off 4th place and if we ever get out of this terrible run, we should come out of it stronger.

Half of my family is. Unfortunately I was born and still live in Nottingham.

They're surprisingly cheap for Newcastle as well from what I remember.

Champions League draw put up some pretty big matches in the first knockout stage.
Real-United would be the most prominent. Barca-Milan and Arsenal-Bayern are also pretty high profile. Also excited for Shakhtar-Dortmund, and Celtic crushing Juventus.

Yup. Some people are kinda down on the draw, but I'm loving it.
I'm also loving Newcastle's draw in Europa....FC Metalist in round of 32 and winner of Hannover v Anzi in round of 16....couldn't have gone much better.

Damn, how does Milan always get Barcelona.
It's almost like I have to hate Cigaro now. First with the Outback bowl, now this.

Very good draw. I'm hoping we play a strong team instead of resting players for the Premier League. We can go far in this if we take it seriously.

I've been waiting to play United again for years. Should be quite the spectacle.

Depends on if our form improves and how the window goes in January tbh. If we lose Ba and are still sitting ~3 pts from relegation, I don't think we can risk our big guns especially considering the long travel time to Ukraine. If we are fairly comfortable in mid table though, I think we give it a proper go.

I can see people's arguments for there potentially being fewer high profile games later in the tournament, but I'm just excited for the slate of matches.
Have to look over Europa matches, but I saw Zenit-Liverpool. Could be cool.

Yeah. I just feel as if the later rounds are going to be more exciting anyway, so it's nice to have some real top class matchups now.

Oh definitely, but if we're still near relegation by February we should just give up. We haven't got any European games that we can blame anymore, we need to push on now and secure ourselves in mid-table.
This Metalist team actually came top of their group with 13 point. It could be harder than I first imagined.

Agreed, now is the time to make the push. May be difficult without HBA though. He and Cabs really make this team go.
Well, all of the teams we could have drawn were top of their group or from the UCL. Metalist does seem to have a good defense though, but considering the other options on the table, I still think we came away quite lucky.
Of course, the karma here will be an early matchup vs Utd or Chelsea in the FA Cup.

How do you figure? I'd favor either Anzhi or Hannover over Newcastle.
