Oh, don't speak of Adrian Peterson on the Falcons.

Oh lord. Pffffffffffffffffft.

the most recent running backs to win MVP in the last 19 years...a whopping 6.

Emmitt Smith(1993) 9 Td's - Cowboys win 12 games
Barry Sanders(1997) 11 td's - Lions win 9 games (2000 yard season)
Terrell Davis(1998) 21 td's - Broncos win 14 games (2000 yard season)
Marshall Faulk(2000) 18 Td's - Rams win 10 games
Sean Alexander(2005) 27 Td's - Seahawks win 13 games
Ladainian Tomlinson (2006) 28 Td's - Chargers win 14 games

Taking the fact that all of them made the playoffs, two won the superbowl. I just dont see AD winning the award speaking that for a HB to win it in recent years you have to be in the upper 20's TD and make the playoff on a good team..

I'm still more concerned with how you got 8 and 11 confused. Until then, I'm not going to pay attention to anything else you say.

you stressed that AP had only 8 touchdowns so far this year when he really has 11. Like, you can't even say you typo'd that.

So should we diminish the accomplishments Jerry Rice did because of the situation he was in San Francisco with two Hall of Fame quarterbacks throwing him the ball for the majority of his career on talented teams? Does that make him overrated?

There are a lot of players in NFL history that were good, but in bad situations on teams. Doesn't mean they should get put on a pedestal. By this logic Archie Manning was the better quarterback than Ken Stabler.

In what world was Tomlinson's MVP year not crazy impressive. Yes Adrian has more rushing yards and has a legit shot at the record, but Tomilinson had a career year as a HoF back and you guys act like it was nothing. Tomlinson was always a TD machine and the he just went off even more. He wasn't some goal line vulture; he was the engine in that offense. On top of his 1800 yards rushing that year he also put up 500+ yard receiving.

Other points to argue of varying validity are Adrian is all the Vikings have so he is getting fed carries (although defenses would be keying in on only him and he is still dominating) & the lack of any use of his back up (LDT had Turner back then who took 500 yards rush). Adrian is crazy awesome this year, but Tomlinson had at least just a good of a year back then.

as much as i hated LT, dude had a season with 100 receptions on top of 313 rushing attempts totaling 2370 yards...he was a machine and his TD production was off the charts... again TD>Yards

But if you want to look at it another way.. teams are built in todays NFL to stop the likes of Brees, Rodgers, Brady and Manning.. spread formations with 4 WR's and TE's in the NFL today are just bigger WR's..

They are not geared up to stop an old school power run game..

Its the inverse of what happened in the 80's... with the Air Coryell offense of the chargers going against an NFL geared toward the run.

San Diego dropped the ball when they decided to let Lorenzo Neal walk and switch to a twin tight run package. It was all down hill for LT from there and with injuries starting to pile up it was hard to watch him turn into a third down back for NYJ.

AP migh break the all time record for yards per carry. With Ponderr at qb and Michael Jenkins as the best wide out. Chew on that.

The league went down hill when Lorenzo Neal left. I know that the traditional blocking fullback will never make the Hall of Fame, but he was as good as it gets for the position.

Alright, need to take this thread off track for just a minute.

1. We always hear about how only two defensive players have won MVP, but why does no one ever talk about how Mark Moseley won MVP?

2. How the **** did Mark Moseley win MVP? First of all, he's a kicker, automatic disqualification. Secondly, he missed 3 extra points that season.

1. We always hear about how only two defensive players have won MVP, but why does no one ever talk about how Mark Moseley won MVP?

There are a lot of players in NFL history that were good, but in bad situations on teams. Doesn't mean they should get put on a pedestal. By this logic Archie Manning was the better quarterback than Ken Stabler.
What the hell? When did I say we should diminish what LT did? He is a hall of fame running back. Would he have been successful if stuck on a crap team? How would I know?

Also I don't know why you're bring ridiculous comparisons of Jerry Rice and Ken Stabler into this. Has nothing to do with the given MVP debate.

Adrian Peterson is CARRYING the Minnesota Vikings on his back. That is exceptionally rare for a running back to do. I don't give a flying frag grenade about how many touch downs he does or doesn't have. I don't care if he breaks record or gets in the playoffs. For a running back to carry a team to within an ear shot of the playoffs is insanely impressive and to me he is without question the most valuable player.

You're welcome to disagree and give your own opinion but personally, that's mine.

http://www.pro-football-reference.co...moselmar01.htm

Moseley hit 20/21 that season (1982), good for better than 95% of his attempts.

He hit 65.6 percent of his kicks for his career, and never had another season where he hit 80%.

Wild.
