The idea that a lot Megatron's yards have come in garbage time, is greatly exaggerated. Less than 100 of his 1900 yards have come with the Lions down by two or more scores.

The fact is, the Lions are almost always trailing, whether it's by 6, 7, 10, 13, 17, etc.
People (a few) want to knock the Vikings for "only" being 8--6, well the Lions record is lottery-material.

They are starting guys opposite him who should be stacking shelves. The Falcons knew Stafford was going to Calvin all night long yesterday but were only able to stop it once.
So many guys are having ridiculous years from an individual perspective but that doesn't make them the most valuable guys in the league.

So many quarterbacks are having inteerchangeably good seasons too. You can sit there all day and preach that a running back isnt as valuable as a quarterback, but how AD is carrying the Vikes in pretty unreal. If you think a QB is MVP this year then it might as well be called qb of the year. If the Vikes get another win on his pack then it should be an obvious choice.

Vikings beat Texans with a below average day from Peterson. Interesting.

True, and that's rare.
Still, Peterson had about 6 times as many yards rushing today as his opponent Arian Foster did, which I also found interesting.
Aaron Rodgers led the Packers to their 9th win in their last 10 games, and an 11-4 record.
His stats are better than Brady now, and the wins are the same (officially, although everyone realized the Packers had one W stolen).
Peyton Manning has another cupcake today at home vs the 5-9 Browns and he will pad his stats like Rodgers did today vs a horrible dead team.

Texans completely sold out to stop AD and allowed Ponder to throw for as many 20 plays as I've seen. It was nice to see he still has a pulse.

Eh the award is for most valuable player and in my mind that's always going to be a QB. If you're argument is against what the award means then that's fine, I actually agree, but that's what it is.

Ya i see how that point is completely relevant to AD winning the MVP award. I mean AD only had 500 more yards than Foster already. Sound argument.

i still think brady is the most valuable player in the league, but it seems fairly clear to me that adrian peterson is simply the best player in the league this season. i don't know how he doesn't win OPOTY unanimously, no matter what happens with the MVP voting.

you do know that Foster left the game with a heart murmur and only had like 10 carries, right? But nah, he mailed it in, like Harvin.
Jmike, pls go

Peyton Manning - MVP
Calvin Johnson - OPOY
Adrian Peterson - CBPOTY
I think Peterson is more deserving of OPOY to be honest, but this is assuming each player takes only one award home.

What makes what he has done so much better? His team is better? Megatron is crushing Jerry Rices record.

He's been dominating just as much the last few weeks, and it's not all in garbage time despite what Chucky says. He's doing this with as little help as AD has been, since the other options include Kris Durham, Brian Robiskie, Tony Scheffler, and Mikel LeShoure.

I hope you aren't insinuating AD is getting his in garbage time...

I never insinuated that, I was defending the belief that Calvin was getting his in garbage time. That had nothing to do with AD.

This. I can't create an argument in my head where 2,000 receiver yards isn't immensely more impressive than 2,000 rushing yards. Since I view OPOY as a statistical award first and foremost I think Megatron gets it.
The only argument then is MVP or CBPOTY for Manning/Peterson. If Peterson runs wild and pushes the Vikings into the playoffs it'll be a harder call but right now I see it exactly as you do Bulldogs.

I think we can now end the DPOY talk for Aldon Smith. (and any MVP talk)

DPOY should be down to JJ Watt and Geno Atkins.

Megatron will be the first receiver ever to get 2,000 yards. That alone makes him OPOY

THe difference is you wouldn't expect the Pats would need Brady's 'A' game to beat the Jags.
However for the Vikes to beat a strong Houston team without Peterson busting loose implies AD is not critical for the Vikes to be successful.

or that the Texans star RB didn't play much, the Vikes D played really well and the texans sold out against the run and the Vikings took advantage of that and used football strategy. that could be it.
or you know, we could also not look at one game late in the season to judge a players whole season. there's that, too
