Sea is bringing in Edwards for work outs. Looks like we are gonna miss out.

If Ray Edwards is signed by the 49ers, Bahktiari will be cut. I doubt this happens because of the role on ST.

I know.
It looks like Edwards will be signed by SEA today so all of this is mute anyway.

Some end of the season statistical observations to ponder over the bye week....
- Alex Smith and CK both ended up 218 pass attempts on the year. CK threw for more yards and finsihed third in the NFL in total QBR. Alex had the higher avg yard per pass, pass yards per game, and passer rating
- CK came in second to Gore with 415 rushing yards for the year
- We finshed 23rd in passing offense but we only attempted 436 passes on the year. Only the Seattle attempted less passes with 405 attempts. The fact that Crabs ammassed over a 1,100 yards receving is almost remarkable in that sense.
- VD was only targeted 61 times on the year. He caught 41 passes.
- Finished 3rd in total defense. 4th against the run, 4th against the pass. Second in scoring defense.
- Finished the year with a +9 in turnover differential, way down from last year +23 differential. Yet we still remained a top 3 defense.

Not to nitpick but CK actually had a higher YPA. 8.3 to 8. I imagine passing yards per start is very similar. Its a little jumbled up because Kaep had some passing yards before he played in the Rams game, let alone started the Bears game. And Alex did have the higher passer rating- 104 to 98.
Both fell 6 attempts short of qualifying for ranking in those categories.

I stand corrected....my bad on avg per attempt. And failed to mention Alex had the higher comp percentage as well. The avg pass yards per game is interesting because I assumed they would have taken that from the games each started but then I guess that's hard to do since CK had passing yards in games in which he didn't start. And Alex had a game where he started and got hurt. I think I'll calculate that one myself using games both started and finished, excluding garbage time. And I'll throw out the tie game with the Rams.

OK, after calculating the pass yards average per game by excluding the Rams game that ended in a tie, CK averaged 230 yards a start while Alex averaged 207.

Seriously? The guy that shanked a game-tying FG last year for his brother in the AFCCG and and was so awful early this season that the Redskins cut him and went with a rookie? I'd rather just roll with Akers and let the chips fall where they may. Dumb ******* move.

It might be to light a fire under Akers, who Harbaugh is giving every chance in the world to keep his job for some reason. They haven't even cut Akers yet and they're going to let him compete with Cundiff for a chance to kick in the postseason.
I just don't see why we didn't bring anyone else to compete for kicking duties. You can't tell me that there aren't some Arena league kickers, rookie kickers, or some other NFL veterans that aren't worth bringing in for a tryout.

It's been reported that, since Novemeber 28, they've worked out Billy Cundiff, Nate Kaeding, Neil Rackers, and Justin Medlock.

And none of them shined better than Cundiff or Akers? That is so hard to believe.
And only after this last game did they bring in Medlock and Cundiff. Why not bring anyone else before quickly making a decision on Cundiff? Especially when you have two weeks before the next game? Doesn't make sense.

Harbaugh's decision on the kicker has been crappy all season. Out of that list, I would have preferred Rackers who I think has the strongest leg of them all but at the same time, im not really sure.
I do agree that signing Cundiff is to just give Akers a kick in the ass for the playoffs. And I'll be shocked if both kickers are active for the playoff games.

The kickers will compete next week in practice and one will remain with the team for the game. I'm thinking that Cundiff actually DOESN'T have the upper hand here and perhaps this is Harbaugh's idea, bringing in a sub-par kicker (his bro has the book on) to compete with Akers, that he know Akers can beat out in a competition, hopefully building his confidence. With Akers, it's all mental right now. I just hope it's fixable.....fast! Harbaugh stands by his players and gets a lot of respect/loyalty for it from the players. Could he be the smartest guy in the room again, and giving Akers the best chance to success by doing something that appears possibly destructive? We'll see.

Also, out of the guys that have come in, Nate Kaeding was my favorite choice to sign, though he's done his own "Cundiff" in recent years, just not LAST year. Still think he was the best among the bunch they were looking at, but it's not my call. They rolled with Cundiff....for now.

Yes, I saw that. They did work him out before he signed, so who knows if he would have gotten the nod over Cundiff.

Question: What does SF doe with Goldson? Do they resign him or let him test the market?

I think he will be on the top of Baalke's list to resign but he could very well ask for too much money. So how much me and i think almost every Niner fan would love to retain him i could very well see him go.
ps
Your depth chart in the forum mock really misses some guys;)
