There is still no explanation with the deferred money from Wright and Bay. We should at minimum have about $8 million to spend this year. I guess the Wilpons want to pocket as much as possible.

Deferred money in Wright's new or old contract?

New contract. He took a smaller salary this year to open up some money which evidently has gone no where.

How are they going to pay the deferred money without bogus investments to cover it?

I'm guessing the thinking is that they need to hoard money now, and when it comes time to pay those salaries either they will be in a better financial position, or there will be a new owner who's stuck with paying those bills.

Do you think they were counting on better attendance during this period?

If they were, they're even bigger fools than I thought.

Look at it this way Zak, Piazza isn't going to get in the Hall this year because he has skin issues that causes him to have bacne. That's much worse than not signing a FA.

Yeah that's going to be the cherry on top Brodie. It actually sounds like no one has enough votes to get in right now. Cooperstown would throw a fit if they had no ceremony this year.

He's less deserving than Bonds, Clemens, Bagwell, Piazza and Biggio.

I never said he was more deserving, they deserve it too.
But he is the only one who hasn't been directly tied in with the roids (I don't think Biggio did) even though the "evidence" against Piazza is ****.

The best player of the last 50 years won't get in immediately, and neither will a top 5 pitcher during that time. I'm tired of these self righteous douchebags who think they can hold a player out for arbitrary reasons, ignoring that Babe Ruth was a drunken asshat and Ty Cobb killed a guy.

What makes you think Chipper Jones won't get in immediately?

Love the Upton for Headley rumors, he would but up insane numbers if half his games were at Chase. I would imagine the D'Backs wouldn't do it without a contract extension, not sure the Padres would do it in general though

People don't realize how good Headley is, if he didn't have to play half his games at Petco he would be putting up such insane numbers. Also the NL West doesn't get much(any) media coverage

I know Headley is good, but I would never trade Upton for him straight up. This past season is the first that Headley has impressed with the bat. He hasn't shown that kind of power in the majors until now so I'd say it's risky to assume he'll continue to be that guy going forward. A lot of his value is tied to being a good defensive 3B, and defensive metrics aren't as reliable as offensive ones.
Upton had one of his worst seasons at the plate, yet it would be pretty close to Headley's average season. If the DBacks make that move, it would just be another in a long line of questionable moves this offseason.

The only reason i would even consider not doing it is Davidson, but he could potentially be moved to 2B once Hill asks for 5/80 next year
