-Young, energetic, has more NFL experience than college
-The fact that Payton thought so highly of him to give him the title of "OC" is pretty impressing. He didn't call the plays but he did design the system.
-Both Parcells and Payton rave about him. Called him a future NFL HC years ago. Pretty highly regarded in NFL circles. Was on his way to SD where the Chargers were about to hire him before the Bills closed.
-Turned around one of the worst programs in CFB which was destroyed by Greg Robinson. 2 bowl wins, 25-25 record in an area where there isn't a lot of high school talent.
Preferred Lovie Smith to Marrone but I can get behind this guy. If Schiano got a HC gig I don't see why Marrone wouldn't.

Like I said in the coaching thread, the sexy pick isn't always the right pick. Most of the better up and coming coaches are guys we never heard about.
I'll give him a chance. I like that he has NFL experience. I typically don't like college coaches who have no NFL experience.
Lovie would have been a good choice too, but let's give this guy a shot. If Parcells believes in him, I believe in him.

Get Nassib at QB and Pugh has the LT and you will have a solid foundation - the Bills interior line is already pretty damn solid.
Light a fire under Mario Williams and draft some solid LBs on defense as well.

Bump him over to RT. Pugh is a beast - he missed the first four games of the season but when he came back he made a huge impact on the running game.
Pugh Levitre Woods Urbik/Rhinehart Glenn would be pretty solid

I think Marrone was the 4th Option. Kelly wasnt interested, neither was Whisenhunt or Lovie Smith.

Don't like this hire, I think all it will do is turn Syracuse into an ACC bottom-feeder and turn the Bills into the same ol' Bills (Except with maybe Nassib or Barkley at QB).

Yeah, we made the play-offs his first year, then had trouble finishing at .500 the next two.

For some reason, I'm not buying that. He went from having a playoff contending team in Chicago to going into a mess in Buffalo, without a QB?

Smith wanted Bills' HC job. Bills wanted Whisenhurst for HC job. Both made 4-5m per season. Doug Marrone made around 2m for Orange. Chip Kelly probably wants at least 4m.

Maybe they thought Marrone would have a bigger impact on the offense. That is why Smith got shitcanned in Chicago - the offensive struggles. He was never an offensive minded guy.

I get that you guys wanted Lovie Smith. Lemme tell you a little story that will shed some light on just how good of an in-game coach he is...
2006, Divisional Round Playoff Game vs. Seahawks.
4th down, Seahawks around midfield. Game is tied at 24 with 2 seconds left in regulation. Seahawks have no timeouts and not enough time to get to the line and run a Hail Mary, so they're walking off the field to prepare for overtime.
LOVIE SMITH CALLS TIME OUT.
Hasselbeck attempts a Hail Mary to Nate Burleson. Luckily, he does not connect. The Bears go on to win it with a field goal in OT.
After the game, Lovie is asked about the time out one time with no follow-up. His response is basically "HURR DURR I WANTED THEM TO PUNT TO HESTER TO SEE IF HE COULD RUN ONE BACK."
If Seattle's Hail Mary had worked, everyone would remember this as the single dumbest in-game decision made by an NFL head coach, EVER. The man would have never gotten another Head Coach interview.
Add to that his history of having one of the lowest successful challenge percentages in the NFL and his patented "call a time out to see if I want to challenge, call the challenge, and still lose the challenge, running out of timeouts because of it" trick and...well, you get the picture.

I want Lovie to replace Reid. Eagles fans don't deserve competent time management.

Eagles fans wouldn't know competent time management if it were standing three feet away chucking batteries at them.
