Potential Cap Casualties and Free Agents
For the Colts I doubt anyone is a cap casualties, but I can see Dwight Freeney leaving in free agency.
Post your teams free agents and potential cap casualties.
Indianapolis Colts
QB Drew Stanton UFA
RB Deji Karim RFA
RB Mewelde Moore UFA
WR Donnie Avery UFA
WR Austin Collie UFA
P Patrick McAfee UFA
OT Tony Hills UFA
OT Winston Justice UFA
OT Jeff Linkenbach RFA
OG Seth Olsen RFA
OL Joe Reitz RFA
DL Antonio Johnson UFA
DL Fili Moala UFA
DL Martin Tevaseu ERFA
LB A.J. Edds ERFA
LB Moise Fokou UFA
LB Dwight Freeney UFA
LB Jamaal Westerman UFA
CB Darius Butler UFA
CB Josh Gordy RFA
CB Jerraud Powers UFA
CB Cassius Vaughn RFA
Players in blue are players I think might not get resigned. If any other Colts fan wants to give a shot at this they are more than welcome because I'm not positive about several of these guys.

Chicago Bears
UFAs:
CB DJ Moore
CB Kelvin Hayden
CB Zackary Bowman
DT Amobi Okoye
DT Henry Melton
DE/DT Israel Idonije
G Chilo Rachal
G Lance Louis
K Olindo Mare
LB Brian Urlacher
LB Geno Hayes
LB Nick Roach
QB Jason Campbell
QB Josh McCown
RB Kahlil Bell
S Troy Nolan
T Jonathan Scott
Melton will 100% be a Bear next season. If he's not re-signed, he'll be franchised. In fact, he's the only tag possibility we have. He's vital to the defense. None of the other guys here are. I can see Idonije being signed to a 1-year contract before free agency. Nick Roach and Lance Louis are also likely to be back next season. Probably one of DJ Moore or Kelvin Hayden will be kept, too. No sure things among the others, but Urlacher will likely be back if he's willing to sign cheaply. The Bears are in pretty good shape as far as impending free agents go. Melton is the only vital player not under contract.
RFAs:
DT Nate Collins
Pretty much a lock to be tendered, given that he'll be cheap and performed really well in the DT rotation.
Possible Cap Casualties and/or "skill" cuts:
DE Julius Peppers
DT Matt Toeaina
G Chris Spencer
TE Kellen Davis
WR Devin Hester
WR Johnny Knox
I didn't include any of the practice squad/3rd stringer types. Just the guys who've been on the field for significant time in their careers. Knox's future in pro football will rest on the opinion of the medical staff this offseason. If he looks like he'll play again, he'll be back. If not, he'll be retired. The other guys are almost certainly going to be dumped, with the exception of Peppers. I expect some cap restructuring magic will be worked on him to reduce that $16 million hit.

Greg Jennings is going to be a hot commodity at WR.
Tonight could be his last game as a cheesehead, and his ***** sister is hoping so.
Sam Shields, I think, will be a UFA, but we will be hanging onto him.

He was really good until he got moved to RT, wasn't he? Or did he fall off as a LT and I just didn't catch wind of it?

He was decent at LT then had the league highest rating at RT (PFF) and was being talked about as one of the best RTs in the league. We signed him to a huge contract and he COMPLETELY fell off the wagon. He was used on more than one occasion to sack Romo. As in thrown rag-doll style back into his QB. Happens less often because he has cement feet in which the defender will just blow by him on a swim.
Not even sure how he went from being extremely talented to worst offensive lineman on the 'Boys in so little time.

Pittsburgh media has talked about Harrison and Hampton as potential cuts. I doubt Harrison gets the axe but Hampton could/should.

Players marked with an asterisk are who I would expect to be priority re-signs. No guarantees, of course. But they've proven their value.
Noteworthy Free Agents
Shane Lechler
Richard Seymour
Desmond Bryant*
Philip Wheeler*
Brandon Myers*
Joselio Hanson
We have Hannibal's replacement stashed on IR. He's gonzo.
Seymour has arthritic knees, milks hamstring injuries, takes too many plays off, and gets too many stupid personal fouls.
Bryant is really good and getting better. He and Wheeler, who has been a revelation, will be core players if they re-sign.
Myers' numbers this year are getting him overrated quite a bit. He's a poor blocker, and really a #2 type TE. Still, he's not a bad player and has a rapport with our QB.
The "Meh" List
Mike Goodson*
Derek Hagan
Andre Carter*
Cooper Carlisle
Shawntae Spencer
Omar Gaither*
Matt Leinart
Mike Mitchell
Matt Giordano
Khalif Barnes
Matt Shaughnessy
Reggie traded for Goodson, and he flashed some real ability late in the season after coming back from his ankle sprain. I think we'll be able to bring him back cheap, and I believe we plan to.
Carter also flashed at the end of the year. Enough so that he took over for Shaughnessy as the primary RE. He finally looks like hes recovered from his injury.
Shaughnessy is still an excellent run defending DE, but looked sluggish and slow this season coming off a shoulder injury. I don't think he'll be a priority re-sign, but I hope he comes back. If we flip to a 3-4 as expected, he could prove to be a very good 5 technique.
Potential Cap Casualties
Tommy Kelly
Darius Heyward-Bey
Michael Huff
Carson Palmer
John Condo
Rolando McClain
Dave Tollefson
Mike Brisiel
McClain is obviously gone. Tommy Kelly is as close to a certainty as there is, short of McClain.
Mike Brisiel was our one 7 figure free agent signing, and he was absolutely horrendous. That he was never benched speaks very poorly of our coaching staff.
Huff is a pretty good player. Not exceptional, but definitely versatile. Played better at CB than either Ron Bartell or Shawntae Spencer did when they were healthy. But, with an $11 million cap number, a restructure is in order. If he plays hardball, he'll be playing for another team next season.
DHB is due way too much. I love his work ethic, and he proved under Hubris Jackson that, if used primarily on routes where he can face the QB (outs, digs, hitches, curls, the occasional slant), he can be an effective player. But, a limited player who still hasn't learned to catch consistently just can't be paid like a go-to guy. I hope they give him the chance to restructure, but cutting him seems more likely.
Conflicting opinions on Palmer's contract. If there's any significant savings for cutting him, I could see it. He's the least likely, though.

There's been a lot of talk about Dallas letting Anthony Spencer walk. I would think he'd be a hot name in FA for 3-4 teams.
Mike Jenkins will be a FA, he was rubbed the wrong way when we signed Carr and drafted Claiborne last year. He's still a fairly young CB who is capable of being a good #2 guy.
Those are the only 2 that are supposedly locks to leave, but Felix Jones, Jay Ratliff, and Sensabaugh are others with murky futures in Dallas.
Well, and Doug Free... But I wouldn't wish that evil on anyone.

It hasn't been updated in a while, but I put together a very comprehensive list of these guys back in October, which you can find here:

It would be awesome if the 49ers signed Peppers to play opposite of Just Smith that would be a killer duo. Then just a solid NT / backup and it would be a top defense.

The Panthers are well over the cap so Chris Gamble is probably gone. He's due 10M this season.
They have to re-sign Dwan Edwards pronto.

yeah because SF doesn't have a top defense right now.
and i'm pretty sure any coaching staff would put him at OLB, not DE in 34. i'm sure he could pull it off but it doesn't really seem like he'd maximize his potential at 34 DE.

Mike Jenkins and Anthony Spencer should make some teams very happy. Early guesses peg Jenkins in San Fran or Miami, Spencer in NY(Jets). Jenkins is a really good, athletic #2 who isn't a shut down guy but in the right scheme you would be very happy with, Spencer has been underrated for awhile but at his age(29) you should be careful with a big deal that escalates in year 3 when his play may start to decline.

Scott Shanle (casualty)
Jermon Bushrod (free agent)
Devery Henderson (casualty)
Sedrick Ellis (free agent)
Roman Harper (possible casualty)

Then just trade for Von Miller and Champ Bailey from the Broncos and the 49ers should finally have a good enough defense....right?

I doubt very much the man just plain gets cut. A restructure is about 1000x more likely.
