Cohen's most prominent roles have been evaluating players on other team's and free agency. How many good free agency moves have we made since he's been a part of this organization? How many players have we overpaid for? Plus, while this is mildly irrational, I've seen him in interviews and he has that same scared look on his face that Tannenbaum had. Some places you can hide from the limelight and be the GM, but not in New York when Woody Johnson is your owner. I don't necessarily see him as being one that would be able to handle the pressure.

Also, on a side-note, in recent years, is John Abraham the biggest example of "the one that got away"? Every year he's been healthy, he's done great, and he's always been a force to be reckoned with. Even now at 34 he is far better than any pass rusher we've had since his departure. I know they were moving to a new scheme, but maybe instead they should've built a scheme around their best players.

John Abraham wanted out. Tannenbaum did not want to give him a good contract. Abraham had played the familiar scheme under Bill Parcells.

Cohen had nothing to do with this situation. Also, it is hard to fault on Cohen when a contract was decided by Tannenbaum and Ryan kept burying few potential players deeper on the roster.

I can't remember any big contract FA that was overpriced or busted under Scott Cohen. Jason Taylor, Laron Taylor, Yeremiah Bell and Austin Howard are good pick ups. He has been with Jets since 2008.

Handling media is always questionable. If Gamble failed the interview then it would be possible that he could not handle media. Who knows.

Salary Situation Picture.

---The word is that it may be 121m salary cap for 2013 season.

---Jets could be eligible for carrying over from 2012 unused cap of about 3.4m to 2013 salary.

---Jets are projected to have 124.4m for 2013 salary cap.

---Jets' incumbent roster is good for about 147.05m.

---Jets are due for 22.65m over the cap.

---Release Part

OT Jason Smith - 12m
LB Calvin Pace - 8.56m
LB Bart Scott - 7.15m
DL Sione Pouha - 3.83m
S Eric Smith - 3m
QB Tim Tebow - 1.53m

Total of Saving - 36.07m

---Jets are 13.42m under the cap.

13.42m is not a good start for free agency. ugh! I had projected the rest of it. It is not good.

I have no idea what strength of CFL but reaching playoff 20 seasons in row is hard to ignore. I'm endorsing Jim Popp.

I know Abraham wanted to leave, but I'm just saying that we should've done more to keep him. Kind of like the situation with Vilma.

And Pace may have been a serviceable starter, but he's always been overpaid. And Scott was overpaid also. I realize that the contracts fall more in line with Tannenbaum's dealings, but Cohen was supposedly his right-hand man. He should've been point him in the right direction. If we were ever going to overpay for someone, at least it would be for top talent. When did we ever go hard after someone really talented? Remember when we flirted around with the idea of Miles Austin? Or Brandon Marshall? We were too scared to make real pushes at real talent. Just think of the guys we have and have not pursued. He should be digging deep on rosters, finding bargains, and finding the right players for our system and situation. I don't know if that's ever happened.

But maybe I'm giving him too much credit. Maybe he didn't have that much say. But then again, if he didn't I don't know why we'd want that either.

And so far, we have still yet to interview Popp, according to the reports.

From the reports, it's kind of sad how bad we wanted Caldwell. Yet another case of us wanting someone that doesn't really have their heart set here, so we over-pay and put ourselves in a bad position. That's kind of the problem. Woody has no backbone, so no one else really does either. There's surely other qualified candidates that will work, and possibly work even better than Caldwell. They just need the right fit.

I would also be a fan. I'd like to get someone from the collegiate ranks. I believe they have a little more practical creativity (i.e. not what Schotty does). Also, I would be a fan because it would make the possibility of drafting Ertz that much more possible.

I am not in hurry to get TE. Offensive creativity is the reason red zone factoring TE exists. Don't waste high pick on any TE.

Galvin Escobar, Travis Kelce, Kaneakua Friel, Asante Cleveland, Nick Kasa, and few more unknown TE will work in Pep Hamilton's red zone role just fine.

Escobar, Kelce, Kasa, Ertz and Eifert are possibly worth high pick (prior to 4th round).

Hell, Pep can convert Jeff Cumberland into a stud TE in no time.

What's also interesting to me is the success he's had with QB's. Obviously Luck is Luck but they're having success with another young guy, Hogan maybe? These guys are clearly talented, but it's better than having a mediocre track record.

Hogan started late. Nunes owned 4 games with under 50 CP.

I would imagine the Ball and Idzik are more likely, maybe Khan too. But that could just be me being hopeful.

How in the world are people turning down GM money? Either they're crazy or the media is making that nonsense up

I kind of feel like they're keeping Cohen in things because they like him as a person and employee, and would like to keep him as an employee after this process. Unless someone new comes up, I think it's either Idzik, Khan, or Sundquist. I was reading somewhere that that report about people not wanting to be the GM was probably falsified as many people around the league would gladly accept the Jets GM job. I think guys like Caldwell and Telesco were already set in where they wanted to go, and most everyone else we just haven't really been blown away by (except for possibly people in our current ring of candidates).

If I were interviewing for the Jets GM job, I would play this song,

,

do a dance, drop a snazzy cover letter and resume, and see myself out.

EDIT: Bob Wischusen says they're apparently down to four candidates. Jim Popp has stated he's still in the mix (possibly being on the optimistic side). If he is, and with Idzik scheduled for another interview, and Sundquist recently impressing, I would assume it would be those three and... Khan? Khan or Cohen. But who knows.

Sounds like it's actually down to Idzik, Khan, and Cohen. But who really knows who you can trust nowadays (not Cimini, that's for sure). Supposedly, we're going to find out who the GM is on Thursday. I would assume the OC announcement would come shortly thereafter. Looks like they want to get everything figured out before the Senior Bowl festivities.

I think my favorite candidates are in that order. I like that Idzik has experience with both the business side of things and personnel. Hopefully you're right about wanting to hang on to Cohen, though I'm not necessarily sure why. Also would be nice if the OC announcement comes shortly after.

Reputation is at a sake. If you can't make it then you will deal with heated craps like media, social, etc.

People are not exactly sitting back and understanding the situation. Attack on every issue.

Since we are different. Mine would be backward.

I am not sure how will Marty Mornhinweg could save Sanchez' sorry butts. Sanchez would learn the 3rd system in 3 years.

It appears Jets will go with external candidate to be new GM (Khan & Idzik have had 2nd interviews). I'm hearing Scott Cohen is on periphery
I mean, I'm not sure who to believe anymore, but it's still keeping me on the edge of my seat.

I know few of you scoff at idea of HC/QB connection but what about Marty Mornhinweg and Nick Foles if Chip Kelly wants a mobile QB like Smith, Wilson, Dysert, Scott or whoever.

My concern about OC is how long will a same OC be with Jets?

I heard Tom Moore is in the mood so Maybe Jets hurry up and get him before Broncos offer him a job. Moore is almost guarantee to be there for 5 years.

Cam Cameron struck out. Now two WCO OC left.

Interesting. Foles or Flynn to serve under WCO OC. It may help improve the offense but how much? I don't know.

How does a trade work in salary cap? I mean other than SB.

GM decision should be today. I can't wait. Either guy being discussed sounds good to me, especially Omar Khan. The Steelers typically underpay their players and let guys looking for big paydays that don't deserve it walk, and since Khan was mainly a contract and cap guy in Pittsburgh I think he'd be a great hire.
