There have been other candidates that have said that they have never been at an interview with someone so prepared as Emery. People like McCoy have been interviewing badly around the league.

I dont even know why people pretend like they know that trestman is going to fail.

Is it possible? yes. But seems like Monomach is right every time anyways.

Why is Danny Crossman our special teams coach? After April and DeHaven, this is just terrible.

Poor Horton. He must feel like crap. If they keep him as the DC and hire someone else I would be pissed if I was him.

I'd hate to see Horton land the job for that way. He may be a good hire depending on his staff, or more importantly his offensive staff.

At least Cards fans can take solstice in knowing they are not the Jet's who can't give their job opening away.

It's just the way of the NFL now. Teams don't want to hire a defensive minded head coach and then have a revolving door at offensive coordinator causing disruptions every year.

Either that guy is successful and gets hired to be a head coach elsewhere, or he sucks and you have to fire him. Then you have a limited crop of position coaches to choose from as replacements, and if they're on another team, that team can block them from interviewing.

But if you hire an offensive minded head coach who is successful, it will be "his" system that is in place for the offense, making the coordinator position easier to replace.

******* Phil Emery. It will be a severe downgrade to any other special teams coach.

Other teams used to sign our special teamers hoping they could bring some of Toub's secrets along with them.

Didn't I tell you that Toub would be in KC?! I did say HC, but I was pretty close.

I'm really not liking this Emery guy. His first draft annoyed me. Let's ignore our terrible line and instead draft a situational pass rusher, a tweener DB with serious injury issues, and a fullback. Then he continues the trend of failing to get a decent coordinator. Then he fires Lovie after a 10 win season. Now he's letting the top ST Coordinator in the league leave on a lateral move.

I like both those hires in both situations. Was pretty sure the Cards were gunna snake McCoy, but I think San Diego makes a little more sense for him.

I feel for Ray Horton, man. I was pretty sure he was going to be one of the first new HCs this offseason, can't believe Zona wants to keep him around as just the DC. I imagine he'll get a gig eventually, but I've no idea why anyone in their right mind would consider hiring Marc Trestman over Ray Horton. Or Ken Whisenhunt.

I believe the rule is that a team can only block a lateral hire. If you want to talk to another team's WR coach for your OC position, you can.

He won't ever get a HC offer until he cuts his hair. It sucks, but no NFL owner is hiring a HC with braids.

I was thinking this the other day. If I was hiring him one of my conditions would be that he has to cut his hair. It looks stupid.

No, you can't. The only job they can't block is for head coach. A lot of teams will allow guys to interview for promotions like they, but they aren't required to.

The Bucs in the early 2000s were notorious for refusing to let position coaches interview for coordinator spots. Otherwise, guys like Marininelli and Tomlin would have gotten them sooner.
