That's true but they do want pass rush from the 3-tech. He can't be a small gap shooter like a true Tampa-2 3 tech but they want pass rush from there. When you punt pass rush from a traditional spot(LDE) you need another rusher somewhere. They don't blitz the WILL as much as they should so ideally the 3-tech picks up the slack. He'll be singled up 90% of the time so penetrate, bull rush and beat blockers is his role. Jason Jones was really good at that role in the start of the season but got injured and the pass rush fell of a cliff.

The LEO/Elephant does have his run responsibilities. He has to set the edge. Can't just go upfield everytime. Thats why Irvin sucked balls yesterday because he was too worried about the run. That meant they had to blitz far more(both Atlanta passes in the end where zone DB blitzes that were late and picked up) and couldn't cover as well.

It looks like the Cowboys will be trying to switch to the Cover 2 defense with the potential signing of Rod Marinelli to go along with Monte Kiffin. Looks like the Cover 2 is spreading around the NFL as teams try to limit the deep threats posed by the great QB's in the league.
Of course, it will be a Hybrid system but the Cover 2 is a defense that sells out on the run to defend the pass and with the passing game dominating offenses in the NFL, it should come as no surprise that teams are using forms of it more and more.

As a side note, I think people should stop calling it the Tampa 2, because as Dungy pointed out years ago, the defense was 1st used by the great Steeler defenses of the 70's, he took it from them and used it in Tampa and then in Indy but the true name of the defense is the Cover 2.
