I agree he's not done. But a first round pick is usually seen as a face of the franchise. I don't see a team wanting that association.

Rightly or wrongly NFL teams will look at this as worse. There are tons of guys with arrest sheets as long as your arm who get big, big contracts. Guys with DUIs, guys who have killed people, guys who beat the **** out of their wives/girlfriends etc. The NFL is used to this type of person. They're for real. Over the years, they've alluded to certain stories but refused to give out names before getting 100% confirmation. They're not looking to get sued.

well the influence on his draftstock is kinda depending on what actually happened

either manti got hoaxed and lied a bit around the whole having an internet GF (trying to make it sound more real and cool instead of nerdy) whilst he got catfished or he flat out made it up

either way i wouldnt touch him, in the latter situation because i couldnt trust him, in the former because i couldnt trust him to lead a group of men

Wouldn't you think if poor Te'o was the victim of a con that Notre Dame wouldn't have allowed CBS to interview Te'o for the BCS about the girlfriend

This shows that Te'o is a dumbass, not that he has character issues. It's stupid to get into a relationship with a girl that you've never even met. He didn't just decide to make up a GF. ND said that he was a victim.

He'll fall in the draft anyway since this will probably kill his confidence.

This isn't that he did a bad thing. It's that he did a potentially insane thing. I'm not questioning his morals so much as his mental health

What about all of his claims to have been with her in person?

The story of them meeting for the first time in person after a game?

Her visiting him in Hawaii?

For those of you that think he possibly got hoaxed didn't read the entire article. He speaks on how he met her after the 2009 Standford game, she came to visit him in Hawaii. Also, while she was in the hospital he would fall asleep with her on the phone and wake up hearing her breathing.

You read the Deadspin story? There are quotes/articles with direct quotes from Te'o talking about visiting this chick and talking to her on the phone everyday at the hospital

Like bf_51 said, this is a mental health thing. Mental health issues are the kiss of death for professional athletes.

No one will want to touch him. And you know that many teams have pyschologists with them during combine interviews. You know how bad that's gonna be for Teo?

He'll be off of a lot of draft boards come April.

To be honest, I could care less that he made up having a girlfriend. That's weird, but I wouldn't drop him down the boards for that. It's the whole dying of cancer thing that sets this apart from the average pathetic case.

ND said he APPEARS to be the victim. Basically one word that covers their ass but doesn't make them seem like they're abandoning one of their players.

This should not hurt Te'o at all. Not really his fault and if anyone has watched the MTV show Catfish based on the movie, apparently 95% of American's have fake ID's or facebook profiles online and mess with peoples emotions ;o)

But it is kind of pathetic a star football player would have to develop relationships with a chick online instead of real life women who are throwing themselves at him.
