People don't believe him for numerous reasons. He hid behind stipulations he forced ESPN to adhere to in order to be interviewed and he is a ADMITTED LIAR. Why the hell would we believe someone who blatantly lied in an outrageous manner?

If you call that coming forward, so be it. But he's a coward. And coward is not a word a use lightly. It has everything to do with moral corruption in sports. Fans of Te'o and supporters of him will overlook dozens of inconsistencies in his stories to support him. That's not right.

The reality is that people have made up their mind about Teo. It doesn't matter what he says, who says what, and who interviews whom. Most think he is guilty of something. It is amazing to me that so many who are quick to judge, are almost always the ones arguing they should receive the benefit of the doubt when they are faced with innuendoes, lies, etc.

Furthermore, the *** jokes, blacked out "butt" comments, etc, is insulting and inflammatory. It really reflects poorly on the website and definitely shows a lack of class. Based on comments from many on this board, no wonder athletes choose not to come out.

btw if Richardson went 3 why can't Lacy go top 20 or higher?

Point is, if he's innocent, why not put a stop to all the gossip and rumors by telling the whole story to the public, via TV media? Why demand an off-camera interview with your lawyer present? It only serves to fuel the rumors and gossip. Only a person with something to hide goes to these kinds of lengths to keep a story from surfacing. Let's do a quick recap. Now i'm not saying all of these things has been done with orders from Te'o or his camp, but there's no denying that they have been done by someone who wants to hide the story.

-Articles that were used as sources for the deadspin story removed from the internet.

- Notre Dame AD tells us they have investigated, but won't release the findings. "It's Manti's privilege to tell his own story." Will only say "We strongly believe he's innocent"

-Then Manti Te'o cancels an interview, possibly to get more time to get his story straight. Gives an interview a day later, but off camera, and with his lawyer present. Giving an impression of it clearly not being an interview where he makes himself available to questioning because he has nothing to hide and wants to come forth with his story. But instead giving the impression that he wanted control over the interview, so as to not let the truth come out, or be asked questions he at the moment has no good answers to.

I find these things extremely suspicious. And I haven't even begun to go into the inconsistencies in the actual story, or the colluded timelines of when he knew, and why he kept telling his tragic story to the media, milking sympathy out of the public, after he supposedly knew he had been duped.

I've done 180 on Teo. Thought he was in on it.

Now I pretty much believe him. I think he got carried away with this online girlfriend thing...still don't know how tui got his cousin to talk so much to teo. He embellished the daylights out of it, but he probably did think more and more highly of this chick as she's dying. Kind of like if a friend is on his deathbed, everyone says how great he is, and then he gets better and everyone thinks he's a jerk again.

I saw the spoof interview with Te'o (cutups from a real interview though) and Te'o definitely is a little out there. Sounds like a child. He's also super religious and super religious people are in kind of a dream world where they're taught not to question things..."have faith". If a 7 year old embellishes a story about how he really DID see santa claus, is he lying?

Doesn't speak well for him being drafted high though. How does someone like that survive in the dog eat dog NFL?

Let's just say you're right. You have the right to think whatever you want. Why can't you be happy with it and move on. For some reason people don't want to move on. Just keep hating him for the rest of your life if you care that much. But he doesn't owe anyone anything more. No crime was committed. No legal action is necessary. No NCAA violations were made. This such a small ordeal in the bigger scope of things. He's a young kid. He'll grow and be better because of this.

because he lied for his own benefit and let it carry him to extreme fame and popularity?

Also, it also shows how ridiculously little investigation is in journalism and media these days and it's sickening.

Considering that interviews at the combine are often deliberately antagonistic (Jeff Ireland and Dez Bryant anybody), if nothing further comes out from the Te'o camp then you're going to leave all 32 teams with all sorts of questions. They're not necessarily going to ask them nicely.

Not true. I think it's funny that you're insulting people for making up their mind and then proceed to label everyone on the forums here. So silly.

I haven't made up my mind regarding Te'o at all. I might be hammering him now but if he came out DAY ONE and addressed all this, was upfront about it and admitted to lying to benefit himself (which clearly he did) I would have a ton of respect for that. I'm not saying I'd become a huge Te'o fan or anything but I have respect for that.

Sorry for having morals? I'm not sure what to say. And mainly I care about it because people like Scott want to wax on about this guys character and leadership skills when being a pretty damn big liar make him the furthest thing from a leader and without character issues. Not to mention other reported incidents of him drinking at BYU when he's being depicted as this pure mormon. It's nonsense. That's why I take issue with it. Don't preach to me this guy is a "good" or "religious" guy when he's clearly anything but.

And yes, everyone lies, but there's a huge difference from telling a little white lie and lying to benefit yourself within the national media.

I respect your opinion to support Manti, but I refuse to support the position that it's okay to lie and deceive people for the sake of your own benefit.

He'll fit right in with all the other misfits and looney tunes in the NFL.

He probably will slide some, partially due to this mess, but then the team that gets him will be declared geniuses.

OK LeBron. . .

I just like the story because it has so many (bad and good) jokes to be told about it.

As far as it hurting him? I think the hits will be monetary. Who will want the crazy guy with the fake dead girlfriend he admits to lying about as their spokesman? Or in their locker room?

He seems like a nice guy. I would usually want to believe him, but his story has to be the most unbelievable thing I have ever heard. (and I literally mean ever) Forget it being a Catfish story. It feels more like a Big Fish story.

Does it really bother you that much that his actions rub people the wrong way?

I'm not defending him as much as I just see his side of the story. He's not a monster. He's just not a good Mormon. OK. People see that. Big deal. If you think he'll never learn from this and he's just the scum of the earth then that's fine. It doesn't mean he can't recover from this no matter how much you don't want him to. People do far worse things and are just fine. People Just have to cope with it and move on. He's not a criminal.

You keep attacking an argument that no one is making. Not one person has called him a criminal in this entire thread, yet you keep bringing it up.

You don't have to break a law to do something morally wrong. I'm not even sure he has done anything morally wrong here, and I won't know until we find out for sure when he found out about this and if he had anything to do with "killing her off."

Because I find humor in the reaction. That's why I'm following this thread. Why? Bother you?

No, I just find it amusing that you seem to be so outraged at the fact that people have a different moral view on the situation.

Just pointing out the fact that this isn't a big deal. If it were criminal then I could understand the big deal. But this isn't. A moral wrong... OK, so?

What do people want to do? Hunt down everyone who's made a moral wrong in the world? Cmon.

I kind of see a kid who might be a little troubled about certain aspects of his life but also someone that hasn't assaulted anyone, done drugs or stolen anything. The kid probably needs people"s support now more than anything.
