Blackhawks opened up the year with a nice 5-2 win over the Kings. Hossa looked great coming back from injury with 2 goals and an assist. Even Frolik got on the board.
Excited for tonight's game @ Phoenix...should be interesting.
I should've expected the team to **** the bed completely for a period, but I was hoping it wouldn't be so absolute that not even Varly could do anything about it. We'll get you next time!...as long we ever resolve the Ryan O'Reilly situation and Downie doesn't go full ******** again. We will however still blow some wide open nets, as our forwards prefer the ping of the post to the annoying goal horn.

I thought the Avs looked tremendous in the first period. I also thought the Wild were the better team all things considered, despite some of the positive breaks we got (I believe we had 7 PP) as far as the officiating goes. It certainly got our offense going.
Either way, I was very impressed by how Duchene and Landeskog played for the Avs. Both have some serious wheels. PS: Erik Johnson's injury was so crazy. No one even touched him.
Parise/Suter were both very good despite shaky starts. So glad we have a #1 defensemen in Suter. He's solid in every aspect of the game.

Yeah, that first period was awesome, team was hitting everything that moved and doing a great job creating chances, really wish they could've converted on more than one.
For how good we looked in the first, you guys were that much better in the second, although the penalty parade and EJ injury really hurt us there, with the third going back to a toss up that you guys won, but if downie didn't hate scoring on empty nets like the rest of the Avs, we may have pulled out.
Ultimately Dutchy made me happy, he's got his burst back, didn't go 1 on 5 much and even had some nice chemistry with PAP. Varly tried his damnedest to keep us in it in the second. EJ looked great. Bottom 6 came to play and Staz had some filthy passes.
But I think Landy may have been sick, he just looked so flat and low energy compared to what I'm used to seeing outta the young fella. Also not sure he and Duchene are the best fit since Dutchy's always done better playing with crafty passers like Mueller and Flash than he has with powerful goal scorers like Jones and Manbearpig (stewie).
That's why I'm hoping we put Skog on Staz's line if he doesn't start clicking with Duchene. Staz is still our best passer and playmaker who excels with powerforwards like Jones, McGinn, Manbearpig and Gabriel. Then stick Downie with Dutchy and PAP cause he's a good passer to, and drop one of Jones/McGinn to the third line, get O'Reilly back from Russia, and the Avs top 9 will be set.

So I'm confused and maybe fenikz or someone can explain, but why did Hossa get booed last night? I mean, I know the whole Torres-hit thing from the playoffs, but is that the reason or is there some other history?
