The Heat team that "struggled" in their opening year lost 24 games in the regular season and were 2 games away from a title. The Lakers have 24 losses in mid January.

They really need to make a trade. I don't know if it should be Dwight or Pau, but they need to do something. Or just start inventing injuries and go for the full on tank.

So that the Suns can pick earlier?

Forgot they don't have a pick. Guess they'll have to deal Pau for 10 cents on the dollar.

That would be hilarious...and frustrating since the Knicks would get a lot better.

Hinrich isn't good and Pau is a clear upgrade.
Judging a player on how he plays against this terrible defense would be silly.

If you trade Hinrich now, you start Nate Robinson (who isn't good) or Marquis Teague (who is atrocious).

Yes. But we get Pau Gasol. It is worth it. The Lakers would never take that trade, unless they want the former Bulls backcourt of DUHON, HINRICH!
I'm not worried about getting into the playoffs, having a Rose-Butler-Deng-Gasol-Noah starting line up gets me giddy. I also understand Butler won't start and eventually he will be the reason the Bulls decide to wrongly not re-sign Deng.

I mean, if we can't trade him for decent value, then yes. Why would 20ish games in one season outweigh 150+ others up until this point? His contract is awful.

It would be hilarious of D12 doesn't re-sign with the Lakers.

Honestly, I don't think we can even get Ryan Anderson for Pau at this point. If we could I would take the deal. We need a shooter that can stretch the floor and not clog up the middle with Dwight there.
Also, Mike D'antoni is a bust of a hire. There's no way around it. Rather than fit his system to the players he's trying to get the players to fit his system.

The problem with trading Gasol is that he makes 19M and the Lakers probably don't want to take back any big deals. The teams that will be interested in Gasol are going to teams that feel Gasol puts them over the top, thus they likely won't be able to simply absorb Gasol's contract due to their cap number. Combine that with the fact that his value is diminished and there just aren't many deals that are going to make sense for both sides.

You seriously think that the Hornets would be getting a bargain for Gasol by giving up Anderson? Anderson is 5x the player Pau is right now, is only 24 years old and is on a perfectly acceptable long term contract. Anderson is much, much, much more valuable than Gasol is.

http://tracking.si.com/2013/01/22/gr...-to-cavaliers/
Cavs gets:
Marresse Speights
Josh Shelby
Wayne Ellington
Future 1st rounder
Grizz get:
Jon Leuer
Grizz save some money I guess. But Cavs get a couple serviceable players and a pick.

Article says that this trade will put them under the luxury tax threshold, so they wouldn't have to break up their core group. Also looks like the Grizz will be signing Delonte West, Sasha Vujacic and Bill Walker.

Now, now. Anderson is not a better player, let alone 5x better player than Gasol right now. Given contracts, value may be a term you can use.
But Gasol playing in a role that fits him is a much more dominant player than Anderson is, even at this stage of his career. See: The Olympics.

Is Rudy Cool part of the core? I think it's Z-Bo, Gasol, and Conley. If they can get a wing to shoot 3s and play defense I think it would fit their team very nicely. Combine that with a back-up big and you are in business.
