USFL cities predictions
I heard the USFL was going to start this spring as a minor league to the NFL. But now its debut has been delayed until 2014 (bad sign?). They will start with eight teams. The favorites for landing franchises include:
Portland
Sacramento
Omaha
Birmingham
Salt Lake City
Oklahoma City
San Antonio
Austin
Columbus
Akron
Toledo
Memphis
Las Vegas
Raleigh
I was thinking that maybe a dark horse city that has a college stadium might get in:
Fresno
Tulsa
El Paso
Louisville
Albuquerque
Tucson
Honolulu
Syracuse
The USFL does not want to be in NFL or MLB cities, so that leaves out Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Fort Worth (which has TCU's stadium but it's too close to Dallas). Syracuse is not very big but the East seems to be left out of the franchise rumors.

They've been planning on starting every year since 2009, but haven't managed to do it yet. So...I'll believe it when I see it.
They claim they're going to operate as a minor league, developing players and all, but no one's using them as such. They have no affiliation with the NFL or CFL. Kind of like me claiming to be a college professor despite my not working for a college or having a teaching degree.

...I'm pretty sure Gridiron Football isn't all that feasible anymore as a Low-Expense Minor League investment.
The best 'successful' leagues that came out since Cable went on the rise were the original USFL and NFL Europe. The USFL 'thrived' with a springtime schedule but was quietly crippling itself by overextending for great talent like a true competing league and then tried to force the issue on an anti-trust suit while switching to a fall schedule (can I get a "[BLEEP] Trump" chant here?). But they were cooked no matter what happened.
The NFL Europe on the other hand took the old WLAE or whatever the acronym was and limped along as a 'farm' system that didn't develop all that much talent in the long run (it was a second-chance system for the most part, much like the NBDL is). And even in a continent where the main competitors are Soccer and sometimes Rugby (and the scummiest of football fans always maintain those are wimpier sports), they STILL couldn't thrive.

The CFL is already established and seems to be becoming more and more of a developmental league for the NFL. It's a solid place for late-bloomers to go and improve. See Cam Wake and Jerrell Freeman, and possibly that piece of **** from USC that stupidly signed with the Pats recently.

Like I said, the USFL is not going into NFL cities. The Patriots are in Boston (in the suburbs). Providence may work as a New England site. I imagine they have a minor league baseball stadium, but I don't know if it's big enough (at least 20,000 seats).

Does anyone actually think this will work? Guys get run through so quickly in the nfl anyway. This is just gonna pile more milage on anyone hoping to play in the league again.

Don't forget about Warren Moon & Jeff Garcia.
Everyone is aware of Moon and the HOF credentials.
But Garcia was a stud for the Calgary Stampeders, learned to play.
Garcia was a four-time CFL All-Star and four-time NFL Pro Bowl selection.

Oklahoma City? Haven't heard anything around here, but I'd appreciate some football besides my typical Sooners and Horned Frogs.

I can't imagine that the owners, with teams that are going to be on the edge of bankruptcy for at least the first few years, are going to want the added expense of flying all the way to Hawaii.
