Why Drafting Gerald McCoy Would be a Mistake for the Bucs

Another thing with McCoy : he's spent 2 offseasons in this league rehabbing injuries. I think this offseason he can finally focus on just getting stronger and improving and not recovering from surgery.

Hopefully he can do that and prove me wrong and I will gladly **** about it... or even bring it up as something I was dreadfully wrong about. The thing is, injuries or not, not being able to be counted on to produce on the field due to constant injuries is even worse than not producing on the field due to not being good enough. At least if a guy is not good enough, he can still help the team as a solid starter and at least give the team the option of replacing them as opposed to having to replace them every eyar. Credit to McCoy, he finally got through a season without major injury at a tough position to stay healthy.

Or with basically no depth at DT McCoy led the nfl in snaps played. Also a tough thing to do at that position playing 8 games in the Tampa heat.

Falcons coach Mike Smith, who like Rivera has the chore of game-planning twice a year for McCoy, has a nickname for players who consistently impact plays: Game Wreckers. Smith used the term repeatedly in talking about McCoy during a break in Senior Bowl workouts last week in Mobile, Ala.

“He’s the type of defensive tackle you would definitely call a game-wrecker, and as such he’s the type you have to make sure you have a specific game plan for,” Smith said. “He’s just so good at disrupting your plays. We have a number of them on film, both against the run and against the pass.

“He just creates so many issues for you, whether it’s forcing a back to start and stop and redirect or affecting the quarterback. What he does is slow everything down and disrupt things so that the linebackers and the other second-level players can come in and finish off the plays.”

I've never seen an opposing coach say anything but glowing remarks regarding a player from another team. If he had been asked about Josh Freeman, and he may have been, he probably talked about how great he is, too.

Production, production, production. I'm not satisfied with him being a great run-defender. I'm not satisfied when McCoy is single blocked the entire day against the Giants and Broncos and gets exactly ZERO push or pressure on the QB and you shouldn't be either. He's been a good run defender and average as a pass rusher which translates to above-average.
