3 Round Post-Super Bowl Mock (2nd & 3rd Round Added)

I only ask for the following:

1. If you don't like a pick, that you have an explanation. Don't hate on the pick because you don't like the player. But if he doesn't fit or the position isn't as big a need, that is good information for me to learn and adjust

2. If I missed a glaring player in the mock, that would be good to know as well.


Round 3 should be added very soon.


First Round

1) Kansas City Chiefs – Geno Smith QB/West Virginia

Word is Andy Reid will have the main say in this pick, and to me, that means QB. Smith fits his system, has the most upside, and is by far the biggest need. Maybe Joeckel in play if they lose Albert.

2) Jacksonville Jaguars – Bjoern Werner DE/Florida State

I still see Werner jumping up the most at the Combine of the pass rushers available. A nice base end that the Jags likely need opposite of Mincer.

3) Oakland Raiders – Barkevious Mingo DE/LSU

I’ve gone a bit back and forth on this 3rd pick. Some rumblings of a potential 3-4 switch which Mingo gives versatility for that future switch.

4) Philadelphia Eagles – Luke Joeckel OT/Texas A&M

Could have the best career of anyone in this draft. If the new staff sticks with Foles, we could see some offensive line changes, cuts, etc. Joeckel makes sense.

5) Detroit Lions – Dee Milliner CB/Alabama

I know it is a usual pick, but it seems more and more likely Milliner is pushed up the board and 5 would fit. DE may end up the bigger need by free agency however.

6) Cleveland Browns – Damontre Moore LB/Texas A&M

I don’t necessarily love Moore as a prospect, but some team will. Pass rush has leapt to the forefront with a 3-4 defense for the Browns and Moore has already played in it.

7) Arizona Cardinals – Eric Fisher OT/Central Michigan

Fisher is now a Top Ten Pic. Once again, a lot depends on the new coach, staff, etc, but anyone can see how bad the Cardinals offensive line is. Though Massie improved, Levi Brown isn’t an answer.

8) Buffalo Bills – Matt Barkley QB/USC

Feel like Buffalo goes with a QB and I honestly have no idea who it will be. Wilson, Glennon, and Barkley are all in the running. All three could wow in the interview process as well, but the more I think about it, the more I like Barkley’s fit.

9) New York Jets – Ezekial Ansah LB/BYU

Rex Ryan will continue to pull the strings for the Jets and has to play to win right now. Ziggy Ansah is an athletic, rangy football player through and through and could add even more pass rush for the Jets.

10) Tennessee Titans – Sheldon Richardson DT/Missouri

Great all around player and gives the Titans some options with Marks becoming a free agent. Could start in a rotation and hopefully improve the Titans defense as a whole.

11) San Diego Chargers – Cordarrelle Patterson WR/Tennessee

Patterson will work out extremely well and showcase potential elite talent. Wasn’t quite a fit in the Top Ten, but for a team that needs some big time offensive weapons, Patterson can fit. Maybe they opt for the LT in Lane Johnson, but not sure it would warrant this high of a pick.

12) Miami Dolphins – Dion Jordan DE/Oregon

Don’t see Jordan as a Top Ten player, but the Dolphins need to find that pass rush opposite of Cam Wake. Jordan’s versatility could endear him to the current staff and hopefully improve the run defense. Having a ton of picks in tis draft allows them to go defense in the first with Patterson gone.

13) Tampa Bay Buccaneers –Star Lotulelei DT/Utah

Maybe an interesting pick, but if the Bucs lose Roy Miller, DT next to Gerald McCoy is a need. Lotulelei can also add some pass rush from the Nose Tackle position to potentially help the pass defense.

14) Carolina Panthers – Shariff Floyd DT/Florida

Floyd should keep his steady rise up boards into the Top 15. A versatile athlete with some great lower body strength to push the pile, he is a name that needs to be more on the national radar.

15) New Orleans Saints – Johnathan Hankins DT/Ohio State

DT run! Nose Tackle leapt to the top of the Saints need list and Hankins would fit the bill perfectly. He is big bodied but still can move laterally enough to pose a major threat.

16) St. Louis Rams – Chance Warmack OG/Alabama

Seems like a great fit for Fisher and the Rams, especially if they move to their young RB tandem. Going to be a make or break year for Bradford and any O-line will help.

17) Pittsburgh Steelers – Alec Ogletree LB/Georgia

Athletic ILB type that can still thump next to Lawrence Timmons but provide the athletic upside to still play in nickel and dime situations. Doubt the Steelers go NT, but still try to keep the run defense in tact by adding Ogletree.

18) Dallas Cowboys – Kenny Vaccaro S/Texas

Would love to find a front 7 fit, but DTs flew off the board. Keep the secondary going with a physical safety who can play deep or in the box in Vaccaro. Loads of potential to continue the fix to a secondary that was a letdown in the 2nd half of the year.

19) New York Giants – Desmond Trufant CB/Washington

Better fit than Banks and I think we could see a shake up in the Giants corners this season. Corey Webster hasn’t been as effective and Prince Amukamara has not been the stud that many hopes he would be. Trufant bring a fiery attitude and physical ability that are great fits.

20) Chicago Bears – Lane Johnson OT/Oklahoma

Bears have shown a lot of interest in him and if he is here at 20, you could see a future franchise LT end up on the Bears. Would be a great pick.

21) Cincinnati Bengals – Sam Montgomery DE/LSU

A lot may depend on the Bengals free agency plans. They have the money to bring back Michael Johnson, but if not, even more pass rush can’t hurt. Likewise, a more consistent player against the run like Montgomery may fit the bill.

22) St. Louis Rams (f/ WAS) – Zach Ertz TE/Stanford

Maybe a bit of a surprise pick, but I wonder how much the staff buys into Lance Kendricks. Ertz gives an in-line tight end and would free up Kendricks as a pass catcher a bit more to utilize his strengths.

23) Minnesota Vikings – DeAndre Hopkins WR/Clemson

Hopkins has a great shot to work out well before the draft. Jarius Wright fits more in the slot and if Percy Harvin ends up moving on, a pure #1 WR would be worth it. Hopkins fits that bill.

24) Indianapolis Colts – DJ Fluker OT/Alabama

Might be a safer pick for the Colts who need to keep Andrew Luck upright. Winston Justice is a free agent and Ben Ijalana hasn’t shown himself to be a starting RT. Fluker could fit in there and ultimately be a guard if needed.

25) Seattle Seahawks – Tyler Eifert TE/Notre Dame

More weapons for Russell Wilson would be the smartest decision for the Seahawks. They could opt for Keenan Allen, but with the preference to use Zach Miller more inline, a guy like Tyler Eifert gives a ton of versatility.

26) Green Bay Packers – Keenan Allen WR/Cal

Ted Thompson’s preference for Seniors not withstanding, could he opt for another weapon? Allen is BPA and could fill in for Jennings outside role while allowing Cobb to be utilized more in the slot.


27) Houston Texans – Manti Te’o LB/Notre Dame

The Texans owner has been spewing off positions of need for the Texans and ILB is among those. Te’o could really fit next to Cushing and clean up a bit more against the run. If he develops more coverage ability, it could be a huge upgrade.

28) Denver Broncos – Johnthan Banks CB/Mississippi State

Tracy Porter is a free agent and not a #2, Chris Harris can be upgraded and Champ Bailey is solid but not elite anymore. Banks gives a developmental star who can step in as a #2 from Day 1.

29) New England Patriots – Jarvis Jones LB/Georgia


Pats let a player fall into their lap? If Jones injury issues push him down, the Patriots are a team that could take the risk and absolutely need to improve their pass rush. Jones can put his hand down or stand up which would help a lot.

30) Atlanta Falcons – Alex Okafor DE/Texas

Okafor is a high character pass rusher, something the Falcons desperately need and prefer. Okafor could sneak into the first round based on his athletic upside and likely a great Combine.


31) San Francisco 49ers – Xavier Rhodes DB/Florida State

It is obvious the 49ers secondary needs some work and Xavier Rhodes can come in to replace Dashon Goldson who is a free agent or even play CB. Even if they bring Goldson back, Whitner should be upgraded.


32) Baltimore Ravens – Kevin Minter LB/LSU

May need to replace Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbe at the Inside Linebacker spot and Minter is a leader who can be developed into the next heart of the defense.





Second Round

1. Jacksonville Jaguars – Robert Alford CB/Southeastern Louisiana

No Gene Smith, but still a small schooler. Cox and Mathis may be gone, Alford could end up as the best CB from this class.

2. Kansas City Chiefs – Robert Woods WR/USC

If Woods performs well at the Combine, is there any doubt he moves up?

3. Philadelphia Eagles – John Jenkins DT/Georgia

NT a big need if they convert to the 3-4.

4. Detroit Lions – Tavon Austin WR/West Virginia

New return man, Titus Young replacement, and more.

5. Cincinnati Bengals (f/OAK) – Eric Reid S/LSU

Versatile safety who could really fit the Bengals defense.

6. Arizona Cardinals – Tyler Wilson QB/Arkansas

Arians may want to try and work his magic with Wilson and bring in competition for Kolb.

7. Cleveland Browns – SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT

Looks like I was wrong on Josh Gordon, slowly developing into a top player, better than any WR still on the board.

8. New York Jets – Jonathan Cooper OG/North Carolina

Value pick at this point though I wonder of Cooper’s exact fit.

9. Tennessee Titans – Larry Warford OG/Kentucky

Big and nimble offensive lineman to impact running game.

10. Buffalo Bills – Da’Rick Rogers WR/Tennessee Tech

Get the QB, get him weapons. Rogers can go deep and may even go over ex-teammate Justin Hunter.

11. Miami Dolphins – Jordan Poyer CB/Oregon State

Even if Sean Smith is back, Richard Marshall would fit better in the nickel role than as a starter.

12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – David Amerson CB/NC State

Amerson gives some versatility but definitely adds to a secondary in need.

13. Carolina Panthers – Justin Hunter WR/Tennessee

Brandon LaFell is solid, but more weapons are crucial for the Panthers right now.

14. New Orleans Saints – FORFEITED

Saints really could have used this pick.

15. San Diego Chargers – Dallas Thomas OL/Tennessee

Inside or outside, the Chargers need O-line help everywhere.

16. St. Louis Rams – Arthur Brown LB/Kansas State

Pulls a Lavonte David fall, but the Rams would be wise to scoop him up for the outside.

17. Dallas Cowboys – Mike Glennon QB/NC State

Some team will surprise with an earlier QB than expected and it very well may be Dallas.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers – Terrence Williams WR/Baylor

Could the Steelers see their Torrey Smith in Terrence Williams? WR may end up a bigger need than RB if Mike Wallace is gone.

19. New York Giants – Kyle Long OL/Oregon

Versatility bumps him up. Another guy who may have an offseason rise.

20. Chicago Bears – Khaseem Greene LB/Rutgers

Could fit in the strongside, or maybe even MLB in a pinch.

21. Washington Redskins – Matt Elam S/Florida

Physical, playmaking safety could replace Meriweather for the Skins.

22. Minnesota Vikings – Kawann Short DT/Purdue

Violent player who can rush the passer, fits the Vikings scheme too.

23. Cincinnati Bengals – Giovanni Bernard RB/North Carolina

Feels like the RB to fit for Cincy, but injuries worry me.

24. Miami Dolphins (f/ IND) – Markus Wheaton WR/Oregon State

Could be a nice deep threat to pair with a free agent.

25. Green Bay Packers – Travis Frederick C/Wisconsin

Still doesn’t quite feel like a Thompson pick, but Frederick would be really intriguing to stay in Green Bay

26. Seattle Seahawks – Tank Carradine DE/Florida State

Add pass rush despite a potential red shirt year for Tank.

27. Houston Texans – Montori Hughes DT/Tennessee Martin

Great fit for Wade’s system at Nose Tackle.

28. Denver Broncos – Barrett Jones OG/Alabama

Versatile interior lineman to keep helping Peyton Manning.

29. New England Patriots – Jesse Williams DT/Alabama

Develop behind and to spell Vince Wilfork.

30. Atlanta Falcons – Vance Mcdonald TE/Rice

Gonzo replacement? McDonald showed some blocking ability, has huge upside, and Dimitroff will take chances.


31. San Francisco 49ers – Margus Hunt DE/SMU

49ers have taken big upside risks in the past, and Hunt is another who could be coached up as a future Justin Smith replacement.

32. Baltimore Ravens – Stedman Bailey WR/West Virginia

Bailey to replace Boldin and maybe give the Ravens a solid slot WR.





Third Round

1. Kansas City – Logan Ryan CB/Rutgers

Upside as a #2 CB who could develop into a #1

2. Jacksonville – Ryan Nassib QB/Syracuse

New GM sounds like they want to bring some QB in. Nassib would fit well.

3. Detroit – Datone Jones DE/UCLA

Could kick inside as needed too, but base end in KVB’s role.

4. Oakland – Zaviar Gooden LB/Missouri

The Ghost of Al Davis takes a track star? Luckily Gooden a good football player too.

5. Philadelphia – EJ Manuel QB/Florida State

Competition for Nick Foles with athletic upside.

6. Cleveland – Will Davis CB/Utah State

High upside CB who could step in as a #2.

7. Arizona – B.W. Webb CB/William & Mary

A tad high, but Arizona has had success with small school corners.

8. Tennessee - Eddie Lacy RB/Alabama

Competition for Chris Johnson and a short yardage player finally.

9. Buffalo – Justin Pugh OT/Syracuse

I generally think new coaches don’t take their old players early, but value and position fits for developmental depth.

10. New York Jets – DJ Swearinger S/South Carolina

Safety depth a big need, plus Swearinger can do SS or FS depending.

11. Tampa Bay – Gavin Escobar TE/San Diego State

A needed red zone weapon who is underrated right now.

12. San Francisco (f/ CAR) – Brandon Williams DT/Missouri Southern

Intriguing NT if Sopoaga leaves the team.

13. New Orleans – Michael Buchanan LB/Illinois

Pair Martez Wilson with another Illini who could be a steal this late.

14. San Diego – Blidi Wreh-Wilson CB/UConn

Solid cover corner to add some depth.

15. Miami – Sylvester Williams DT/North Carolina

Another potential steal, could replace Randy Starks.

16. St. Louis – Jonathan Cyprien S/FIU

Very intriguing prospect who can play FS or SS

17. Pittsburgh – TJ McDonald S/USC

One Trojan to replace another?

18. Dallas – Devin Taylor DE/South Carolina

Could keep rising up boards and would be a rotational player in the new 4-3.

19. New York Giants – Malliciah Goodman DE/Clemson

Intriguing physical specimen.

20. Miami (f/ CHI) – Travis Kelce TE/Cincinnati

Keep adding weapons for Tannehill if you want him to succeed.

21. Minnesota – Jamar Taylor CB/Boise State

Good depth at CB as needed by the Vikings

Is Dalton all he is cracked up to be? Bray would give a high upside developmental back-up.

23. Washington – Oday Aboushi OT/Virginia

RT with some LT upside.

24. Indianapolis – Corey Lemonier LB/South Carolina

Mathis and Freeney won’t both be staying.

25. Seattle – Kiko Alonso LB/Oregon

Intriguing fit for the Seahawks who could complete their LBs.

Outstanding senior who just fits.

Deep threat, return man, could compete with Keshawn Martin.

2) For Seattle, TE is definitely a possibility, especially if they sign a WR in FA. I like that pick.

To be honest, after watching the Chiefs play all season, it's hard to imagine them drafting any other position.

The Jarvis Jones pick seems like an odd fit. Hightower played well at the SAM and Ninkovich was great at LDE. While I do agree that upgrading the pass rush is very important, I think a penetrating DT would make more sense there.

I believe the 3-4 talk is legit, but...

Hell, maybe Mingo is the real deal. His athletic ability and length are obvious. People rave about his motor. I understand that he was horribly miscast as a LDE (Why the hell wasn't the stouter Montgomery on the strong side anyway?), but the overall lack of impact plays really makes him a hard pick to swallow this high in the draft. Not to mention my deep distrust of LSU players.

I'd rather roll the dice on Jones. But, seeing as you have him plummeting, I'll accept the premise of his getting some iffy medical reviews at the combine and being too great a gamble at #3 overall.

Also, consider this an implied kick to the jimmy for posting this before you had 3 rounds ready.

(Yes, I say 3 because Hue Jackson's simple ass screwed us out of a 2nd rounder. I need at least two draft picks to feel satisfied. I have faith in you. Give us 4 rounds.)

I would rather have Hopkins, but Ertz is a good pick as well for the Rams. My favorite TE in this class. Kendricks is a solid option, but he's more of a high end #2.

On a serious note, the Pats did sign Armond Armstead and I'm hoping he can become that 3-tech player at DT. I feel Hightower's best spot might be that flex end position Ninkovich plays.

CB is good. However, I disagree with your statement on Prince. He was superb this year for the Giants. To me, DL/OL are the bigger need by far but I wouldn't be upset at all if we took a CB.

I think some people may be surprised by this, but I think Richardson has exceeded Star in my ratings and I think he'd be a better fit for what the Titans want at the DT position. I would be thrilled with either, but I like the Titans first selection

Sheldon has always been my #1 DT (Probably cuz I'm a Mizzou homer) and I agree, Richardson fills a bigger need for the Titans.

Again, just because we need a defensive tackle doesn't mean we need any defensive tackle. We need a nose tackle, we already have the under tackle spot filled. Sharrif Floyd is not a nose tackle. If we're going to draft a defensive tackle in the first, they need to be in the mold of Hankins or Williams, not Floyd or Richardson. They might be good players, but they don't fit our needs.
