I think shedding blocks is overrated. Not many if any LBs can actually shed a block from a 300 lb OLmen. Those LBs don't exist anymore really bc the hammer ILB who was a run stuffing specialist doesn't really exist (outside of Brandon Spikes).

It's important to slip blocks. Bc if the OL puts their hands on the LB he's done 99% of the time, and that includes Patrick Willis. But your ability to slip blocks, knife through traffic and beat OLmen to the gap, that's important.

I as a Bucs fan would love to see us draft him and play him with David

Even though my Lions have had problems with DUIs, I'd be livid if they passed on him in the 2nd.

He's not too good at "slipping blocks" either. Alabama ran at him all day because they were constantly able to put a lineman, tight end or fullback on Ogletree. And you also overstate the advantage a lineman has. Yes, they're bigger and stronger, but plenty of linebackers even today are able to work their way off of blocks. Perhaps not on every play, but often enough to where you can't run directly at them without fearing some consequences. Ogletree has shown no ability to do that.

Exactly. I can see it now. Pete Carroll or Bill Belichick drafts him and they are proclaimed geniuses.

For Seattle he'd be replacing Leroy Hill, that in itself would be a major upgrade character wise.

For real. If I'm Kevin Minter, I'm not even leaving my house until he draft, except for the combine. Just ride out the offseason smelling like roses.

I won't dispute that. My statement was a general statement, not an observation of Oggletree.

I'm prob the biggest fan of Alec on this board as I've said I think he will be a better pro then Jarvis. But this does play into the biggest concern I've had with him. I have never heard anything about him being a bad guy in the locker room just has failed 2 drug test. Also his brother was kicked off the team last week for his 3rd failed drug test so I guess it runs in the family. This prob will drop him to the 2nd round but If you wanna look at the glass half full then this isnt any worse then what another former UGA LB did that droped to the 3rd round and made the probowl in year 2 in Justin Houstin.

Everyone knows Ogletree is talented, but why use a first round pick on a developmental linebacker who's struggled with off field issues and missed so many games in college? Few linebackers are major difference makers in the NFL. I'd prefer my team use a first round pick on a less risky personality at a more 'premium' position.

The Panthers defense saw a noticeable improvement after Kuechly moved to the middle. Linebacker can be a pretty critical position with the right or wrong talent.

Because a playoff team could potential get a pro bowl LB in the late 1st round. He has questions but not many people have his kind of upside that you will get in the late 1st/2nd round.

Is that bad? It's not good.
