And he did it in New York, no less. What a complete dumbass this guy is.

Re-signing Michael Bennett just became a priority for the Bucs.

Ya know its not against the law to have a gun in an airport as long as its locked inside its case, and is checked in.

Which it wasn't. I don't see how anyone could possibly think it would be acceptable, particularly ever since 9/11, to carry a gun in your carry-on, where you could obviously reach it at any point during the flight.

Congrats mark dominik. Yet another draft pick wasted. Brian price Arrellious been Myron Lewis and now deqwan bowers.

None of these guys have panned out and you've drafted tem over the likes of Geno Atkins Carlos Dunlap and Torrey smith just to name a few. How do you still call yourself a rock star gm?

As for Bowers: how stupid can you be to bring a loaded gun in your Carry on in an airport. Do you not know that's taken pretty seriously. He'll be lucky to get off with what Placico served. At least he didn't being a loaded gun with intent to get on a plane. Shaking my head. Tey pay these guys 6,7, and 8 figure salaries. Yet they still can't use they're brains regardless?

It's kind of hard to foresee something like this to be fair. I mean, this is something you don't even expect from the dumbest of people.

Burress discharged his weapon which makes it a way more serious crime. Plus, Burress' gun was unregistred. So, while Bowers is getting charged with the same crime as Burress did, this situation is nothing like Plax's. Bowers will probably reduces his charges and accepts some plea deal. He'll probably get a probation, pay a ton of money and do some charity work. Oh, and Goodell will give him a 4 game suspension. And that's about it.

Still incredibly dumb.

Somehow I can't imagine the 'are you aware carrying firearms on planes is illegal' question coming up in the interviews.

It was hard for me to imagine someone being so stupid that they needed to be asked that question.

It was actually like three months later. But it was way too early. It was after about two or three days of training camp.

But what a steal! 17 players drafted in 2011 have more sacks than him. 7 guys from 2012 had more sacks this season than Bowers has his entire career. Only Cameron Heyward was drafted ahead of him and has fewer sacks among defensive lineman.

When he dropped out of the first round entirely and then kept falling half way through the second, I figured his knee was probably FUBAR and he'd bust.

I'm surprised that he's this stupid, though.

No way. Not in New York. New York has the nation's strictest gun laws. Burress was charged with 2 counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, and one count of reckless endangerment. The weapons charges carried way more weight than the reckless endangerment charge, which I believe was a misdemeanor. Bowers was charged with the same two weapons charges. Simply carrying a gun in New York without a permit, which is next to impossible to get, is a felony. This guy will do some time. Maybe not as much as Plax, but it will interfere with his career significantly. Huge mistake.

To put it into perspective, Bernhard Getz shot and seriously injured 4 men who were trying to rob him on a New York Subway (they had robbed him a couple times previously). He was found not guilty on all charges, including attempted murder, reckless endangerment...except for the gun possession charge. He did prison time just for possessing the gun, even though he was completely acquitted for his use of it.

The queens DA is very reasonnable on these. Personnalites like Harry Connick Jr. have been arrested before at the airports in Queens on the same charge and they didn't do any time in jail. Of couse, that was before Sandy Hook and I guess they might want to make an example out of Bowers.

Here's Attorney Jeremy Saland's, of Manhattan criminal defense firm Crotty & Saland, who spent seven years as a prosecutor in the Manhattan district attorney’s office before spending the past six years in criminal defense, take of the situation:

Quote:
Saland said there’s an excellent chance Bowers could have his serious felony charge “deviated downward,” aka reduced. The following questions/factors, per Saland, will be keys to Bowers not landing in prison.

1) Was the gun legally obtained and registered properly in Bowers’ home state? Saland said the answer to those questions will be most critical in determining whether Bowers can get leniency out of the Queens district attorney’s office.

2) Was Bowers attempting to legally check the firearm? Or was he taking it through security improperly?

3) Was the gun actually loaded or only “statutorily” loaded?

4) Does Bowers have a criminal record?

Saland went on to say that ”collateral consequences” for the individual can be a factor in determining a prosecutor’s willingless to lessen a charge. A school teacher, for example, whose career could be ruined by certain convictions, could have that fact taken into consideration.
1. It looks like it was a registrated gun.

2. When he got to the airport he realized that he had his gun and reported himself

3. Only statutorily loaded.

4. No record. Bowers is a very religious man.

But what a steal! 17 players drafted in 2011 have more sacks than him. 7 guys from 2012 had more sacks this season than Bowers has his entire career. Only Cameron Heyward was drafted ahead of him and has fewer sacks among defensive lineman.
bucfan12 is such a joke. It seems everytimes he talks, he's just embarassing Bucs fans.

I saw someone on Twitter seriously mention Chase Daniel as an option in Free Agency for teams needing a starting QB. That gave me a good chuckle on what has otherwise been a terrible day.

Bowers is a religious man yes and seems to have no criminal history what so ever. But the gun wasn't registered in NY. And only a complete idiot wpuld put a loaded gun in their carry on at an airport. After 9/11, everything is taken seriously.

I like bowers and I know he made a mistake but this is a serious offense.

EDIT: how would you feel if you were boarding the same plane as him finding out that he was going through security with a loaded weapon on a plane that was in reach of his possession 10,000 ft in the air?

Well he wasn't going through security, and he had not previously tried. He mentioned in at check-in. Still completely idiotic, but at least he didn't take it that far. Also the earlier cited attorney said the gun needs to be registered in Bowers' home state, not necessarily NY.
