Far from terrible. It's the lack of impact from the last 3 seasons, plus Sanchez that crushes him.

Man, I hate sportswriters who don't know what they're talking about and go to a ton of trouble to give a super wrong explanation. Was reading the twitter feed of a Bears writer who said that Brian de la Puente is a sure thing to leave New Orleans because the Saints would get no draft pick if someone signs him. He explained restricted free agency, saying that when an RFA was undrafted, no draft pick can be required.
Dipshit had no idea that you can use a tender on a guy that's higher than where he was drafted. There's nothing to stop NO from putting a first round tender on de la Puente.

And that the Saints could just match the offer.

He brought it up because their cap situation would make it really tough to pay him real money, which makes sense. If the Bears gave him like 5 mil in the first year, they'd have a real shot at getting him.

The biggest thing is that he signed everyone to 2nd contracts, and isn't receiving value from rookie contracts on anyone besides Wilkerson and Kerley. He overpaid to keep Harris and Holmes despite at the time everyone knowing that one guy was a 1-2ish receiver and the other was a good not great ILB. He delayed paying Mangold, D'Brick, and Holmes in the early years of their contracts to fit under the cap as well. Throw in the awful Sanchez contract and Tannebaum was horrible. Also considering he absolutely failed at replacing Rhodes, Washingon, Jones, Woody, Faneca, Edwards, and Richardson once they got too old or left, the Jets hit a tailspin.
They have no options to get better, and despite cutting some overpaid players they're still going to be trying to replace guys like Bart Scott and Yeremiah Bell with late round type picks. I don't care how much the previous players struggled, you're not likely going to get better trying that formula.
Needless to say I'm going to enjoy the last year of the Ryan era immensely.

All players drafted under Mangini. It's no coincidence that the Jets drafting became horrible once Ryan took over.

I don't think theyve had awful drafts though. I like some of the players they drafted.
They did a terrible job building depth and that's partly bc Tanny would move around too much in the draft to get his players. They went quality over quantity, and that's fine but you can't do it all the time bc your depth takes a major hit. And that's showing itself now 2 years later.

The problem with the Jets is that they have invested too much money into trying to keep their core players.
Here are their top 2013 cap numbers (from sportrac.com) and the final year of their deals
David Harris: 13,000,000 (2014)
Mark Sanchez: 12,853,125 (2016)
Santonio Holmes: 12,500,000 (2015)
Antonio Cromartie: 10,750,000 (2014)
D'Brickashaw Ferguson: 10,716,667 (2017)
Nick Mangold: 9,117,100 (2017)
Darrelle Revis: 9,000,000 (2013)
Sione Pouha: 6,166,667 (2014)
thats $84.1m out of their cap invested in these 7 players.
The way most of these are structured and the long term commitment, there isn't really much wiggle room.
Revis for example wants his payday next year, the franchise is simply unable to do it, hence why Revis is on the trade block.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets were quietly shopping David Harris as well. It is going to take time to redress the cap situation.

Wilson may not be a star, but he gives us 2 things that our defense has absolutely zero of - steady, veteran leadership and good tackling.

I wish the Cowboys had cap space to make signings like this. I admired his game a lot last year, and while he's not a pro bowl type talent he's very smart and instinctive and felt he would have been great with our defensive change. Then again we obviously don't value Safeties.

Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora
so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

Its the Chiefs and they will still pick Geno. After watching the combine and hearing more about him, I do not see how they pass up a gym rat Qb.
I wasn't sure at first but they will not pass him up.
This is Andy Reid who likes to have 2 capable qbs at all time. He will get Geno to earn the spot and not just hand it over to him. Andy also knows he is going to have to work with Geno to call plays, run the huddle and take snaps underneath, so why push him in if not ready. Its a good stop gap situation.

If it's no more than a 4th I would be fine with it being the Chiefs. Even if they take a QB in the first two rounds they still need a vet.
There isn't a QB on the current roster that should be there next season.

I don't see Alex Smith coming here to be a backup. I just don't.

My source says it's the Chiefs for #34. A condition of the trade was a 4 year extension with 14m guaranteed.
