I can see this: KC getting Alex Smith for a conditional 4th (on some sort of unfulfillable condition of getting a 3rd rounder, like Oakland and Palmer.) And Reid getting Mike Glennon/Tyler Wilson with 34. Reid probably thinks he can still build up/bring good QBs slowly.

Good. There were a few bad games, but even with the line shuffling due to injury I'd say it was an above average unit.

A lot of the problems were just not enough receivers running routes and QBs holding onto the ball too long. And bad play design. And a lot of things that didn't have much to do with the line.

Literally turned over the ball everytime it wasn't in Jamaal Charles hands. (he had some fumble woes early as well)

It'll be interesting how their draft slotting eventually plays out in April.

Man if Andy Reid manages to trade down into the top five, still select Geno Smith and pick up another 1st/2nd in the process....! Amazing.
This is how I feel. I'm not sure where some people get the idea that Joeckel is the consensus #1 player in the draft. I'm not even sold on him being the consensus #1 OT in the draft. I'd happily take Fisher.

I wouldnt assume that.

Donald Stephenson, the chiefs 2012 3rd round pick, started 7 games and gave up 5 sacks. Those arent great numbers, but he flashed starting LT ability.

Here is what PFF said about his wk 12 performance, "when rookie LT, Donald Stephenson (+2.2) gives up only one hit to the combination of Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil you have to be satisfied as a KC scout. Filling in for the injured Branden Albert, Stephenson not only performed in pass protection but showed some decent ability as a run blocker too. Watch the way with 9:39 left in the fourth he moves up to the second level, gets good position on Woodyard and keeps him moving backwards well over 15 yards."

Stephenson, a local KC kid, played LT at OU. Although he was an underachiever in college, he was the most athletic tackle at the combine. He measued in at 6'5.4'', 312lbs with nearly 35'' arms. He ran the 40 in under 5 seconds and had a vertical jumb over 35''.

Although some might label that a "combine" warrior, he flashed that ability in games. Now its up to him to do it more consistently.

Even with 2 rookie playing on the left side (stephenson and Allen), and Lilja playing center (a position he hasnt played before), the chiefs Oline was graded as 16th in the league by PFF. Having Cassel and Quinn at QB didnt do the Oline any favors since defenses (for good reason) didnt respect the passing game.

You certain about that? Just a little nugget for someone who watches every move this team makes. The owner, Clark Hunt, is the one who is on record as saying he wants this team to be built primarily through the draft and not spend a ton of money in free agency. So the change in regime may not be the one driving that as you think. Even if it were, which as stated it isn't, John Dorsey comes from a franchise that has historically not made huge splashes in free agency either except for may Charles Woodson. Which may explain Clark Hunt's attraction to Dorsey as his new GM.

Evidence points that this team will continue to not make huge splashes in UFA. Yeah, they may go out there and sign a few "middle of the road" and less expensive UFAs here and there. But they are not going to make huge splashes. That's not where the history and the evidence points.

There are some that think Warmack is the best player in this draft. Personally, I don't think there is a consensus. But there is still much to be played out.

There were a lot of problems with the Chiefs' offensive line. As has been noted, Rodney Hudson blew knee earlier in the season forcing Ryan Lilja to move to Center. A position he has never played before. IMO, Lilja was an above average guard and at times gets overpowered due to his lack of size and strength. With that, the Chiefs had to move a rookie in at LG in the form of Jeff Allen. Jeff Allen has a lot of potential, but he is a rookie. He struggled early on but made some strides as the season progressed.

At one point the Chiefs had Hochstein taking snaps due to injury. Even Eric Winston had to log some snaps at guard. Donald Stephenson had to log snaps at both right and left tackle.

Add all that with the fact that the Chiefs really only had one real receiver this year because Breaston vanished and Jon Baldwin has never shown up. Struggles at QB. A HC that should NOT have ever been given the job. An offensive coordinator who has never piloted a top notch offense...

Given all that, the Chiefs still had a 1500+ yard back and more often than not QBs still had adequate time to deliver the ball.

Despite all the injuries the offensive line wasn't the problem this year. When that line was healthy it was pretty good. Even when the shuffling began, guys like Stephenson and Allen grew and showed improvement enough to where you could see futures for them somewhere.

The only thing the Chiefs are really lacking along the OL (if Albert re-signs, obviously) is depth. We need a C/G swing player somewhere in this draft.

LT: Branden Albert (Donald Stephenson)
LG: Jeff Allen
C: Rodney Hudson
RG: Jon Asamoah
RT: Eric Winston (Donald Stephenson)

With Lilja retiring, the depth inside is bad.

Now, if Albert walks, OT is definitely in consideration for the #1 pick, but we won't know that for a few weeks.

yup. PFF has a stat called "time to sack" which measures on average how long a qb has in the pocket before he is sacked. Cassell had the 7th most amount of time in the pocket before he was sacked.

within the last 24hrs there are rumours linking the chiefs to Alex Smith and Foles.

I wouldnt be suprised if just about every QB on the trading block will be linked to the chiefs at some point.

That's old news...There was a new report coming out backing saying that that claim by the Eagles was smokescreen and that they've been in talks over the past few days.

I'd rather have Foles than Smith..Then take whoever falls to #34..Then if Foles pulls a Cassel, we could still be in position for Teddy Bridgewater sweepstakes.

whoa, is that an ads sighting?!?

if the Chiefs believe that Foles is better than anyone in this draft class, then i guess i can deal with that. obviously, having played in a few NFL games already and having already been a part of the Andy Reid offense helps his case for an immediate impact. i hope that he is viewed only as a temporary fix to the QB position and we address the future in the 2014 draft.

having said all that, i really hope they feel someone in this draft will be a good QB. waiting another year would just be torture. plus, this roster being another year older isn't helping their window.

jesus, this is depressing. of all the damn years to get the #1 pick, it would be this 1. just draft Hochevar and get this over with already. i fell cursed as a fan. Chiefs, Royals and Mizzou to root for. what a ******* mess!

How much of the Chiefs issues last year could be attributed to piss poor coaching and scheming? It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs season goes. Alot of their terrible performance should be blamed on coaching.

Most of the problems we had last year were because of coaching. RAC got out coached every time he stepped on the field. Great DC, awful HC. He doesn't make halftime adjustments, and at the end of games he sounded like he had no idea what the team was doing (or trying to do) offensively at all, like he didn't even realize he had an offense to worry about too. Of course, with the way they played, that might have been exactly what happened.

It was QB play and coaching. That's why we were so bad.

i think a fair share of it was coaching, scheming (or lack there of), QBing and overall team quitting on the season. other than 1 game riding on emotions, this team was complete crap. they were never prepared for any team. they never made a halftime adjustment that worked. the coaches lost confidence in the QB and called complete ******** offensive plays. the defense got tired of being the only side of the ball competing in the game and evetually quit. the talent on this team is MUCH MUCH better than their record. Andy Reid alone is worth 3 or 4 more victories this year, even if Cassel is the QB.

edit: i swear vidae hadn't posted yet when i began typing, but great minds think alike. damn near a double post
