Default Shift in Draft Needs?

We know now that KC should be pretty locked in on Joeckel. All of a sudden, the Jags who swore they were going to give Gabbert another chance appear to be interested in Smith unless it is a well orchestrated and expensive lie. The Eagles now reportedly have legitimate interest in Smith. The Raiders have always been the highest picking team that has been interest in Smith dating back to the college season. Now, the Lions at the #5 spot have just let go of Jeff Backus due to retirement. And remember, they also lost Cherilus two days ago. They MUST be in the mix for Fisher! And all of a sudden, Cleveland has no need for all those outside rushers mentioned at the top of the draft with the aquisitio of Krueger. What are you guys waiting for, go update your mocks!

Let the gamesmanship begin! About the only thing you know for sure is that nothing is as it appears to be.

The Eagles interest in Smith seems more legitimate than Jacksonville's. Philly brought him in on the quiet for a full workout prior to his pro day. No one really noticed until after the fact. But they had a full contingent out for Geno, including Lurie. With the Jags, they seemed to be putting on a show, and made sure to publicize their contingent beforehand. I don't think you can totally rule out their interest, they really don't have much tied up in Gabbert, he earns less than most backups in the league. Less than Henne, and less than Chase Daniels just got from the Chiefs. So, it's perfectly feasible for them to carry two young quarterbacks and let them duke it out. If they cut Henne and signed Smith at the going rate for #2 overall pick, they'd still have less than 10 million per year tied up at the position. Among the bottom third in the league in that respect.

Lions definitely need a LT with backus retiring.

Losing Cherilus was somewhat irrelevant as they have Reiff at RT. Their line is pretty much set except for LT (Sims LG Raiola C Nagy RG Reiff RT). They also have Fox and Hilliard as backups and they think Fox has starter upside.

Would think Fisher or Lane Johnson could end up there.

Seattle got their receiver and DE in Harvin and Avril while giving up their top pick. Would think a DT or maybe even a TE in the 2nd looks likely.

Losing two starting tackles and thus far not replacing is not a good thing. The fact is, Reiff is a back up to this point. IF he becomes a quality starter or even a poor starter, the depth at OT is diminished.

We have created a huge hole at LG by letting Levitre walk and not resigning Rinehart either.

Could have vaulted Warmack/Cooper in top 10.

Reiff was drafted to be a replacement as a starter. The Lions knew when they drafted Reiff that Cherilus had one year left on his deal and that Backus would only play one or two more years. They didn't draft Reiff with a 1st round pick to be "depth." If Reiff flops at tackle in camp, they'll put him at right guard and move Jason Fox into the starting lineup. They let Cherilus walk because they already had his replacement on the roster.

I am not doubting any of that, I am saying you lost two starters and elevating a back up hurts your depth. Reiff will not be replacing two positions.

I understand that it hurts depth, but it's only day three of free agency. How many back up offensive linemen have signed contracts so far? Considering Jeff Backus just retired a few hours ago, I'm not going to panic over the fact that they haven't brought in anyone new on the offensive line yet.

With the addition of Steven Jackson you can rule out RB in round 1(Lacy being the only one worthy of a 1st round grade IMO). Also, Tony G coming back lets us put TE off for another year and cuts down 2 big needs.

Our entire focus will be ways to rush the passer. It has been our most glaring need the past 2 seasons. Only problem is at 30 I'm not feeling too good about a DE that can make that kind of impact so I have no clue how we play it.

Think the falcons are prime candidates to make a big trade up since their needs just got slashed and most of the top pass rushers will be gone by pick 15.

Honestly, I don't see anything approaching need on this Seattle roster now. It's pretty solid 2 deep across the board (except fullback).

I'd say we should just trade all our picks for higher future picks, but the expectation is we're going to get a couple starters with those 8 day 2/3 picks anyway. Push some existing starters down the depth chart.

I don't think anyone has any clue what Seattle is going to take. Maybe WLB now, but that's not a given. They're just going to take fit/scheme BPA at this point.

He's hoping for another D- draft day grade, complete with a 'worst draft decision in the history of decisions' rant.

Right tackle and weak-side linebacker isn't strong 1-deep, FYI

Lol.

TE though. Miller won't be back after this season and McCoy isn't much.

Escobar, reed or kelce or maybe ertz in the 2nd

And I am not saying you should panic, I am just saying that this opens up a need and because of their position in the draft, it's far more likely than it once was that the Lions will be picking an OT with the #5 pick.

There is some good high end LT talent in this draft and a whole lot of pass rush depth. OT should be the pick for the Lions.
