I have the safeties ranked like this right now:
FS:
Vaccarro
Elam
Swearinger
Amerson
SS:
Cyprien
Reid
I have Amerson listed as a FS because if we draft him I think it would be to play FS. He's rangy but he's too stiff to play man. He's probably idealy a cover 2 CB.
I'm not 100% sure if Elam is a FS or SS in the NFL

From what I've seen of Vaccaro, I like his build and he seems pretty quick (like another corner), but I'm not sure if he's physical enough to make the sure tackle. Goldson's tackling wasn't that great either, but the only time I saw him get physically dominated consistently and bulldozed through was against Marshawn Lynch. Goldson also gambled with taking the big hit.

Any thoughts on TJ McDonald? I dont think we would have to spend that valuable of a pick on him.

Moves like a linebacker, strictly an in-box SS imo. 4th round pick I think.

Just saw this, which is contrary to some reports that we never made an offer to Goldson. Not that it matters...
Matt Maiocco @MaioccoCSN Tying up loose ends: 49ers brass says multiple formal contract offers were made to Dashon Goldson before he signed with Buccaneers.

I would love to know what the offers were to Goldson though. Hopefully, it was a competitive offer as opposed to low balling him.

If the 49ers were to move up in the first round, who would be their target?
A surprise might be Tavon Austin.
Vaccaro makes sense but I doubt they do that.
Otherwise I guess one of the pass rushers. I really hope they don't take Tank if they stay put.
Or maybe they move up slightly for Trufant/Rhodes. I could see them taking Banks but not on a trade-up.
Another guess is that they shop picks for future years like the Pats always did.

I seriously doubt Baalke goes WR, two years straight. And I doubt he goes for such a diminutive WR like Austin, when he took a smallish WR last year in Jenkins. I like Austin but he isnt a #1 WR. If Baalke is moving up for a WR in the first, he would have to be a #1 type. Plus this draft is completely loaded at WR. There will be good value picks to be had later. The same way Kendall Hunter fell to us in the 4th round in 2011, I see something similar happening this year in the 3rd or the 4th, where we have multiple picks in each round. Its so many WRs I like in this draft, its insane. There's no need to trade up for one, IMO.
Baalke drafts biggest need in the 1st round. Since he's been in charge of our drafts, that's been his pattern. So I think he's looking at safeties. Only safety to move up for is Vaccaro. The rest we can easily be acquired later.
He might go DT but Baalke has yet to draft a interior lineman AT ALL, for three drafts now. I don't think he values DTs too highly or he generally believes he can give any guy that slip through the cracks to Tomsula and he'll turn him into something.

i like him but he will be gone by end of 2nd early 3rd. i'm 50/50 on the 1st 4 picks. i get the feeling s, cb, dt, te, and c will be the targets. this is a deep team along with a good looking draft. ton of wr's that will be around during rounds 3-6.

Am I the only one who likes Shamarko Thomas? Just like Elam, I think they are a little short though...

I like Thomas. Has a tendency to over-run plays in the run game but I like his ability to cover for a safety. And he's probably the best athlete at safety in the entire draft. He definitely needs some coaching, but he oozes potential.

Positions to trade up for would be ranked as the following for me: And no, I'm not saying that these are likely so please save the "It seems like you want to trade up for everyone", or the "the niners would never trade up for Lacy, you idiot" comments.
S (Vaccaro)
WR (Patterson, Austin, Hunter)-Hunter would just be a 1-2 spot trade up
CB (Millner if he slips, Rhodes, Trufant)- Trufant would be 1-2 spot jump
DE (Could be many different players-Sheldon Richardson maybe)
NT (Could be a few people here as well)
C (Cooper...completes the best O-line in the league)
OLB (Jarvis maybe if he drops to the 20's, Moore)
TE (Eifert..please no)
RB (Eddie Lacy shocker..lol..please no)

Why do I keep hearing about Tavon Austin? What is up with the hype surrounding him? He was a fantastic return specialist while also being a receiver correct, but he's very small. Are teams really going to take him high in the draft? I just don't see many jack-of-all-trade players going that high.

He's going top 15 and possibly top 10.
He's the best slot WR prospect since slot receivers have become a niche.
He's not jack of all trades. He's got terrific hands and can run every route. If he was 6'1 he's be the first pick

Then maybe it's time for him to go D-Line in the first. The biggest potential holes (where competition is already there are) are on D-Line, Safety and Corner.
I could see them going QB and TE decently high as well, depending on who is on the board. I think Matt Scott of AZ is the perfect developmental guy behind Kap for Harbaugh. I like EJ Manuel as well, but I think he'll go too high for the Niners will ideally spend a pick on the QB position.
I could also see him going O-Line higher than we think as well to shore up C of the future, though Looney and Kilgore are already in the mix, but just not in the first.

But he's not 6'1'', he's 5'8''. Personally if I was going to draft someone that high I'd want a for sure #1 receiver type. Not sure if Austin fits that mold.

I'd throw my T.V. out the window if they took Manuel yuck. Matt Scott if they go QB please.

Scott is who I really want them to target but we'll see.
They may bring in a veteran. Hasselbeck's name is floating around there again:

Parys Haralson restructured his contract to a 1 year 1.3 million dollar deal with another 400k in incentives. Great deal for both parties.

I agree. He's a very good prospect but I'm kind of surprised how his stock shot up after the Combine. Usually smaller guys like himself aren't valued as such because of their limitations on the outside. I know he's slotted to go pretty high but what he brings to the table as of now, I dont beleive is top 15 worthy. I see him being drafted in the 20's at the earliest.
It seems like every week, I'm finding another WR I like. Finally got around to watching some tape on Swope. I really like this kid. He didn't line up on the outside two much so that's a concern and he didn't run a lot of different routes but his athleticism is really underrated and he just looks like a Harbaugh guy. Blocks his ass off for a WR and just a tough kid. Where's Brent? Like to get his take on Swope.
