Suggs had great stats and the knock wasn't just that he was slow, but also the pass happy PAC 10. Alot of ppl were saying he was able produce that high because he had extra snaps to rush the passer.

Let's not forget Suggs was 20 lbs heavier than Jones, no medical issues, and ran faster than Jones and he dropped. Jones at 4.9, 240lbs, cervical stenosis, is going to drop way way down in the draft
Okay, when I said this weeks ago, you would have though I said something sacreligious. I am glad to see someone else shares my view. Like I said then, he looks like he was a the kind of kid that looked like he was 25 when he was 13. He's physically mature and he's not skinny, so he does not have any more room to grow.

Zach Ertz improved his 40 to the high 4.5 low 4.6 area. Curious to see if the Niners will take him in that late first early second range. Vernon Davis could use some help.

Harbaugh loves using two tight ends, and it'll only help the offense more if they have the dual threats at the position along with the threats of Crabtree and Boldin outside.

His condition is at his cervical spine. most reports are non specific and say spinal stenosis, but he specifically has a stenosis in his cervical spine

Not being up on their roster I'd have to think they'll draft a TE fairly early on having let Delaney Walker walk.

There is nothing behind Davis at the position. Between Eifert, Ertz and Escobar, one of those players will be a 49er next season.

It's still an offense based around the run. I'd have to think it'd be a better run blocker than Escobar. I'd be more willing to bet Dion Sims will be their pick.

If I'm Coach Harbaugh I'd rather take a guy who can create problems for the defense like Ertz/Escobar and work on their strength/blocking than taking a plus blocker who may not make as much of a difference in the passing game.

Neither of those guys fit our system for what we ask our TE2 to do. Look for Reed or McDonald to be drafted in the 3rd or 4th to fit that role. No way we use one of our 1st picks on a TE2.

Moore was not thin, he was too short at a shade over 5'10... and considering he spent most of his college career with his hand in the dirt, it is hard to project a 5'10 225 lb (definitely not thin) collegiate DE to much of anything in the pros. It also didn't help that he got shot in the leg (his money makers) during his first offseason and was a complete knucklehead at the time.

This was not a great comparison. For what it's worth, you might've meant Moore, but a Cornell Brown comparison would have made much more sense.

I'm not too worried about Jones, they are similar players but it's not like Jones is a Suggs clone. If Jones goes to a 4-3 defense he'll play SLB where Suggs would be DE. Jones may still go down to rush on passing downs, but unless he gains 20 pounds over his career I don't think he'll be a DE.

In the end, I expect Jones to go somewhere between 9 and 17. I think it really comes down to what doctors think of his neck more than his workouts.
Jones weighed 249 at his Pro Day. it would probably be hard to find, but if Suggs weighed 257 at the combine, and his pro day was more than a month later, it wouldn't be a stretch to think Suggs weighed closer to 249 than 257.

I'm not sure I get your point. Jones is fairly slow for a 4-3 DE... and yet you say if he plays in the 4-3 he will be a LB and occasionally put his hand on the ground? That is baffling... you'd rather take a guy that can pretty much ONLY rush the passer and consistently have him drop into coverage where his terrible speed (for a LB) can be exposed?

If he is drafted by a 4-3 team he plays weakside DE... at most he plays as the starting Sam in base packages and drops into DE in the nickel. If he plays in the 3-4 he will be an OLB.

Zach Ertz, who played under Harbaugh and in his system, is a worse fit for the offense than Jordan Reed?

To say nothing about the fact that Ertz and Reed are night and day talent wise.

I think Ertz gives the Niners the most options out of a 2 TE set. It gives them 2 guys who can both block and stretch the middle of a defense. Not that Ertz is a blazer, but he can make some plays as a receiver.

Yes that's correct. Ertz would play the same role as VD which we obviously don't need. Walker was a perfect compliment to VD because he played more of a Chris Cooley H back role but he added a vertical threat as well. Reed fits that mold much better than Ertz.

Glad that there was some TE talk in here because it's a perfect segue to my question. Jordan Reed had a personal pro day on the 22nd, but I've been searching for the results for the past three days and haven't found anything. Does anybody know how he did?
