It looked awkward because that was 308 lbs running drills at times comparable to 240 lb guys.
I think what he REEAAALLY needs to work on is his center of gravity. In the drills themselves he ran very high, unlike a real football player. Even in regular football players, playing with proper pad level is not an easy task.
Still, at this stage in the game, pick the guy up, have him run down the field like a maniac playing special teams, he can do some things on special teams until/if he learns the rest of the game. It's worth a flier if he is truly committed.
