Default BB's All-Time FREAK Team: Offense

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought this would be fun. The criteria is the player is a certified freak to begin with, they have to have established themselves as perenial starters in the league and their freakishness has to have translate on the field. I found that some positions have shoe ins while there will be more debate about others.

QB Michael Vick- Athletically, he is in a class by himself. His speed, quickness and burst is one thing, but when you add in the arm, he becomes the only true QB freak.

WR Randy Moss- The ultimate downfield threat that also happens to have completely controlled the airspace above defenders.

Honorable Mention- T.O.

RB Eric Dickerson- 6'3", 220+ lbs, he routinely pulled away from other fast guys on the field. Perhaps the most fluid, efficient gate of all time. His head did not move one milimeter when he ran.

Honorable Mention- Adrian Peterson

RB Bo Jackson- Bo knows, and so do you.

Honorable Mention- Jamal Lewis

WR Calvin Johnson- Catcher's mits for hands, 240 lbs at 6'5", 4.37 speed in someone else's shoes that are two small, Johnson was not born, he was created.

Honorable Mention- Andre Johnson

TE Antonio Gates- freakish agility, change of direction quickness and incredible hand-eye and body coordination trumps Vernon Davis on the field. Jimmy Graham is knocking at the door.

Honorable mention- Vernon Davis

OT Jason Peters- Ran a 4.93 at 328 lbs. And if there are any doubts, pull up some tape of him playing TE in college. He ***** slaps the laws of physics.

Honorable Mention- Jonathan Ogden

OT Walter Jones- Superior athlete and football player with no weaknesses to speak of. Incredible blend of strength, balance and agility.

Honorable Mention- Joe Staley

OG- Larry Allen- Likely the strongest player to ever play in the NFL who also happened to agile and flat out fast. What else is there?

OG- Randall McDaniel- Played OG in the modern era at 276 pounds. This guy was trim and cut and always played on balance. He controlled men much larger than himself. If you've ever seen him play, you would swear your eyes were deceiving you. Had uncanny balance and strength and always seemed to have full extension on his man.

Alright guys, help me out. Throw some candidates out there for OG and C.

Since I am here in the 757 for the weekend I am going to go with Mike Vick. Yeah the guy has never lived up to his ability outside of 2011, but he was a man among boys at times. Also, he was the first road QB to win a playoff game at Green Bay ever!

Where at? Two of the biggest freaks in their sport came from Bad News, Vick and Iverson.

I'l throw out Steve Young, Randall Cunningham and Fran Tarkenton and Cam Newton.

Tarkenton was more of a scrambler who didn't really wow anyone with athleticism.

At guard my favorite would be John Hannah out of Alabama who ran a 4.7 for scouts at 6-3 280lb, rather large for that era.

How do we know that, though? He said himself he was a freak. Did he every run a 40?

I'll tell you another freak, and don't laugh: Doug Flutie. There is no quesition in my mind he could have played in the NFL from day one. He proved that in his advanced years. Dude was legitimately fast and durable and also had a huge arm with a huge hand attached to it.

Where's the Tony Mandarich love? :)

Center is really tough, I wouldn't consider anyone a freak like the guys above. Maybe Dawson?

Mandarich is more of a strongman who's attributes didn't translate, on top of the steroid use. Ryan Kalil put up incredible #'s at the combine; Mawae could pull like no one's business, it was like he was sprinting.

John Elway

I still remember the stories of him throwing baseballs over the outfield fences from home plate during his brief baseball stint.

That man shaped the ideal NFL QB prospect to this day. He single handedly turned arm strength into a core QB measurable.

For TE, I would say Gonzales was more transformative for the position. Although one could go old school with Kellen Winslow Sr.

At OT, I'd submit Anthony Munoz. While he isn't a freak by today's standards, he certainly was for his era. Add Art Shell to this list too.

RB: Jim Brown

I'd say RG111 before i'd say Cam, who was the 3rd fastest in the forty at the combine among QBs.

Cam's size with more than adequate speed probably puts him over RG3

I think Elway's athletic ability is measured in things like vision, lateral quickness and as you say a cannon for an arm both on the baseball diamond as well as the football field.

Another freak who never played a down in the NFL. (thus he doesnt qualify) was Kirk Gibson. His baseball career is public record but he was a great college WR and ran a 4.29 forty for New England scout Bucko Kilroy at 6-3 220lb.

an EPIC FAIL? get out of here with that nonsense. He could be on the list, but theres plenty of reasons to leave him off too.

Vick had unreal speed, open field ability, and rare acceleration along with a top 3 strongest arm in the league but even that isnt an EPIC FAIL leaving off because he just wasnt nor isnt a great thrower. Same with vince young, hed be on this list if he was better at playing QB, but hes not
