Default Best in the NFL

So this is basically an offshoot of the Worst in the NFL thread, but the idea is basically pick the team you believe to have the best positional groupings in the league

Some of the obvious ones for me are:

TE - New England Patriots: Gronk is the premier TE in the league and Hernandez is a top 5-7 TE. They also have ridiculous depth with Fells, Hooman and Ballard.

WR - Atlanta Falcons: Not many teams have 2 absolute studs at the position. Jones and White would be the best WRs on about 25 teams.

S - Seattle Seahawks: The Bucs could run them close however Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor really complement each other so well.

DT - Detroit Lions: Suh is getting underrated due to being a douche and Fairley is turning into a stud

There are then some which aren't as obvious. One could argue the Pats have the best QB group with Brady still at an elite level and Ryan Mallett having mega upside as a backup, however Brady is getting on and Mallett hasn't shown anything on the field. Similar things can be said for the Broncos. The Packers have the best QB but if Rodgers goes down then it's horrednous for GB.

Thoughts???

RB - Houston: Arian Foster is one of the best running backs in the league. Ben Tate could start for at least half of the league. The only other team close would be Baltimore with Rice-Pierce.

G: Titans...i know warmack hasnt played yet but im convinced he'll be a stud. Him and Levitre are a ridiculous duo

T: Could be a bunch of teams....you have the niners with staley/davis, rams with long/saffold, chiefs with albert/fisher, bengals with whitworth/smith, vikings with kalil/loadholt as the best to come to mind when you take into account both tackles as a pair

WR - Denver Broncos.

1) DT is arguably already a top 10 WR and his potential is through the roof, he has bulked up from what i read and what ive seen in pictures he looked JACKED, but you throw in the fact he is a burner and big deep threat. The fact that he has another year in the system he should only get better.

2) Eric Decker, much like DT spent the 1st year recovering from an injury he sustained in college (Lisfranc) which is a big injury for a WR. But now that he has recovered, he has blossomed and is looking like the WR he was in college pre-injury. had 13 TDs last season while still learning the offense and getting in sync.

and the tipping point over ATL or GB.

3) Wes Welker arguably the best slot WR the game has seen, that alone is reason to think that coupled with two legit outside WRs Peyton Manning who has always liked throwing inside to TEs and WRs. He is hands down better than any inside receiver Manning has ever had. He will not only be a nightmare matchup like he always is but is going to open the flood gates for what is expected to be an even higher octane offense this year.

Given Welker's presence along with Decker and DT, Manning should have no problem besting his stats from last season(which were his 2nd best all-time) meaning he could have his best season yet and that could mean 3 1000 yard receivers

Davin Joseph and Carl Nicks will be the best guard duo in the league this year.

Carl Nicks is good, but I'm not sure he's good enough to raise the perpetually overrated play of Davin Joseph to the point where their performance will exceed other guard duos.

I gotta be a homer and nominate the Ravens for having the best guard duo in Osemele and Yanda. We all know Yanda is a beast but when Osemele was moved to LG in the playoffs it was a thing of beauty. There's some good competition among teams for having the best pair of guards though.

I guess I gotta put SF at the best LB spot. Willis, Bowman, Smith and Brooks is just nasty.

QB: Patriots - To me, Brady is the only of the elite QBs to have a backup that has shown anything. Osweiler in Denver is the only other but unproven.
Honorable Mention: Broncos

RB: Texans - There's lot of good tandems out there, Bills, Ravens, Titans but I think it's fair to say the Texans are a little better.
Honorable Mention: Bills

WR: Broncos -I think Bronco 56 already said it all
Honorable Mention: Falcons

TE: Patriots - I don't think this is a contest
Honorable mention: Idk Bengals maybe?

OT: Titans - This will raise some backlash, but the truth is the Titans have two OTs that rank top 5 on their respective sides of the line. If you want consistency it's the two from Tennessee. Michael Roos gets ignored for lesser players with bigger names as does David Stewart on the other side.
Honorable Mention: Bengals

OG/C: Saints - In my eyes, until proven otherwise there's no better combo than Evans and Grubbs.
Honorable Mention: Titans

DEs: Giants - They've still got Tuck, JPP, Kiwanuka and Moore to play DE
Honorable Mention: Bengals

DTs: Lions - Suh and Fairley are as good as it gets when they want to be
Honorable Mention: Bengals

43LBers - Patriots Off the top of my head they have Hightower, Spikes and Mayo, pretty good trio
Honorable Mention: Titans

34 OLB - Ravens - One of the tougher ones to decide, I initially thought 49ers, then my head went to the Eagles.
Honorable Mention: Eagles and 49ers

34 ILB - 49ers - No contest
Honorable Mention: Not sure

CBs: Seahawks - Sherman may be the best in the business and Browner is a sold #2 for their style of D, now add Winfield to that mix
Honorable Mention: Not sure

S: Seahawks - I think both are a little overrated, but still not a better tandem right now
Honorable Mention - Buccaneers

What has Mallett shown? Is his 5.2 career QB rating that impressive to you? Which of his three incompletions wowed you the most?

If Guard is it's own group, I really think the Ravens have the best tandem. Osemele played RT the whole regular but was a BEAST during the playoffs when we moved him to LG and should only be better in year two in an off-season where he'll actually be preparing to play guard. So that and Yanda is arguably the best in the game.

Preseason games. I'd rank them 1) Rodgers, 2) Brady, 3) Manning in just starting QB rankings, so to move Brady up to 1 based on his backup isn't anything special.

Are you saying you find Graham Harrell or Brock Osweiler more impressive than Mallett?

I could really see an argument of the Ravens, Titans, Saints and Bucs for the top G spots.

I chose the Saints because they are consistent veterans. The Ravens and Titans both still have a player that needs to prove themselves (Osemele and Warmack respectively). I don't think anybody loved Osemele more than me coming out for the draft, but he's still unproven to me. The Buccaneers on the other hand have a player thats missed 28 of the possible games in his career, I can't rank a guy high that can't stay on the field.

I'd reserve putting any tandem as the best if atleast 50% is a rookie, looking at you Titans guards.

OL & RB: San Francisco 49ers
DL: Seattle Seahawks

OL: Staley, Davis, Iupati, Boone, and Goodwin are as good as it gets. You look at the numbers that Alex Smith put up before his concussion last season and I believe that it speaks to the talent of the offensive line. Also they do an incredible job opening up holes and picking up their assignments in the run game.

RB: Everybody knows that Gore is great, but I really like Hunter. I feel he could start on a few other teams in the league. Also in terms of a change of pace RB to spell the starter, LaMichael James is a really good one. Dixon isn't amazing but I feel that he is better than a fourth string RB which is what he is on this team. Also if Lattimore recovers well and returns to form that's another incredible RB they have there.

DL: The amount of depth they have at this position in my opinion might be the best at any positon in the league. They have so many different types of both DT and DE's too, run stoppers, pass rushers.

Welker makes it really close but if you compare Thomas and Decker for Roddy and Julio then the Falcons guys win out 100 times out of 100. Roddy and Julio are top 10 WRs, maybe top 5. Thomas is a top 10 guy and I really like Decker but I can't put him on the same level

I agree. I did have them as an honorable mention, but also threw C into the category as well

I think it just depends how you look at the argument, I can see it both ways. The Falcons clearly are better on the top 2 on the depth chart, I don't think anyone really even comes close. But when you get down to 3rd, a WR that is still going to catch a ton of balls and be out there a ton, then I think it's clearly got to be Denver

I would say SF has the best pair of LB's overall (Aldon, Brooks, Willis, Bowman) and maybe the best pair of OG's (Iupati and Boone) and OT's (Staley and Davis). Perhaps 3-4 DE's too with Smith and McDonald? Although Watt+Antonio Smith would probably be the best because of Watt alone, not to mention Smith is no slouch either.
