Default Von Miller - No Weakness

Interesting read, not really a homer thread because I would like to see what you all think. And while everyone has their opinion about PFF, this is the only player in the NFL that they say has NO WEAKNESS.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...le-von-miller/

A few things that jumped out.

Quote:
What Miller achieved this year was simply astonishing — to be that prolific, show such improvement in one facet of his skills as a pass rusher, and be so close to perfectly balanced as a pass rusher
Quote:
However, the one area that Miller is by far and away better than any edge rusher in the league is at beating blockers to their inside, taking the shortest route to the quarterback. No-one got as much total pressure to the inside as Miller
Quote:
no-one was remotely close to him in terms of the rate at which he got pressure inside of pass protectors in 2012

While Miller is nice there's no way he would be taken in the "No Weakness" sweepstakes over JJ Watt.

Hey im not disagreeing, I thought JJ Watt was insane. This is another reason why I was so suprised by the article.

Troublesome Opponent

Eric Winston: One hurry (Week 12 and Week 17)

That Winston still cannot find a home is one of the more mystifying facts of the 2013 NFL offseason. Winston was a wise pick up by the Chiefs last season after his salary got in the way of him staying in Houston, but after being released in early March Winston has been somehow unable to find a contract in the NFL, even though he has consistently been one of the league’s better right tackles over the past five years (+12.0 or better every year since 2008). Miller may have recorded two sacks in his two games against the Chiefs this season, but his -0.3 (Week 12) and 0.0 (Week 17) pass rush grades were his worst of the season. Winston was the chief reason for that (along with the Chiefs’ run-heavy play calling in Week 17) and it will be fascinating to see how (if he ends up at right tackle this season) No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher copes with Miller.
...and some people 'round here be calling Winston overrated.

He really doesn't. Von is a monster.

But yeah, JJ Watt is the best. He has HOF written all over his face.

Probably my favorite defender in the league not named Revis.

To also be fair, PFF, as usual, is using incomplete statistics to analyze the game.

Inside pressure is easier to obtain as a stand up rusher vs a guy who is a DE in a 3 point stance. You have more space to operate with as a stand up rusher, and quite often are stunted more than a DE.

It's not a fair evaluation.

JJ Watt would be #1, but I do agree that Von has very little weaknesses as well.

And to think, I didn't want Buffalo to take him at 3 if he was there. Yeah...I'm a little slow.

The gap isn't huge, they're very similar. It's the standard big guy vs small guy debate. Big guy usually wins.

Yeah, PFF says that Miller is the only player without a weakness yet they rank that same player as the 3rd best defensive player in the League and 4th overall.

Watt
Atkins
Peterson

Not having a weakness is not the same as having the greatest strengths. Deion Sanders was widely considered the best CB in the game, but he was a weak tackler.

Does Von take over games defensively?? I don't get that sense from him. He's a weapon and a critical piece for Denver, an elite talent, but I don't feel like he's this overwhelming defender that single-handedly blows up opposing offenses.

Prince is going to become a very good and under-rated corner for us, but I want JR to trade up for Von Miller so damn bad, I would've given up our 2012 first rounder to our 2011 pick and then added more to make it happen. Miller and JPP together would've been so nasty.

Von Miller single handidly abused the Patriots offensive line last year. No one signle player, including Watt did as much damage in one game as he did against the Patriots.

Miller isn't just a stud pass rusher though, he is a ridiculously good run defender and more than fine in coverage.

I have been eating crow for a while on Miller who I thought was wildly overrated in the draft. In fact, I believe I stated he would be a rich man's Tully Banta-Cain

Considering he can't find a job I'd say that shows he might be over-rated by fans.

I'm also gonna be a homer and throw Cameron Wake into the discussion. I'd take Watt over him, yea, but I think Wake deserves to be mentioned here. He's the best 43 DE in the league and doesn't get anywhere near the pub he deserves.

To answer your question... YES, go look at highlights, read some articles, watch a denver game...on any given play Von is a threat weather it be a sack, blowing up a running play or covering...he is arguably the best player on Denver's entire roster.

What makes Von so incredible to me is his power for his size. Von is very strong, but he's probably around 235 lbs soaking wet. He has thick thighs so I'm guessing that's where his power comes from, but he has a serious punch too.

He's so good at slipping blocks too.

The short answer: Yes. For further reference check out his 3 game run in weeks 9-11 last year. Miller was a one man wrecking crew in all 3 of those games.
