I'm anxious to see what Lockette can do.

So whats our injury list looking like so far. I count

-Lattimore
-Crabtree
-Carradine (should be ready by TC)
-Williams (^^)
-Hunter (^^)
-Manningham (heard he'll be out for TC but ready by week 1)
-Aldon Smith (labrum surgery, should be ready for TC though?)
-Justin Smith?

We're actually pretty banged up for the offseason. But everyone except Lattimore, Crabs, and Manningham should be ready for day 1 of TC, right?

With Crabs injury and him turning 28 yesterday, its now or never. Time is running out for him to put it all together.

Yeah, it just bothers me that the Seahawks would rather give a shot to Antonio Bryant, Braylon Edwards, and Terrell Owens than keep Lockette around.

Maybe this offseason made a difference. I'm not holding my breath.

According to reports, its a complete tear. I wouldn't risk bringing him back during the 2013 season. Reading what Thomas from the Broncos said about his rehab, he stated he didn't feel 100% until about 10 months, though he came back and played after 7 months. I understand everyone is different but if Crabs were smart, he'd take it slow and make sure he is 100% for a contract year in 2014.

Anyone need some counseling on injuriezzzz, you know where to find me.

From Dominique Wilkins, Dan Marino, Danny Manning, Vinny Testaverde, Leon Hall, Mikel LeShoure, Jason Peters, Shawne Merriman, Ryan Howard, Jon Beason.... all these guys tore ACL's and none of them had the quickness, agility, that they did before it... of course Marino and Vinny never had any to begin with.

Of course, Kobe Bryant just tore his... he was already old. He'll never be close to the same.

Only two-thirds of National Football League players ever come back, and those who do find their performance significantly affected. But research suggests a prodromal period may offer opportunities for early intervention.

by Khalid Shirzad, MD; John D. Hewitt, MD; Carter Kiesau, MD; and Selene G. Parekh, MD, MBA

Achilles tendon injuries have increased over the past few decades; however, the true frequency of Achilles tendon ruptures is unknown. These tears are usually the result of mechanical stress and intratendinous degeneration or pathology. The tendon can be affected by recurrent microtrauma with a low propensity to heal or degenerative changes within the tendon. Corticosteroids and fluoroquinolone antibiotics have also been implicated in tendon pathology.1 Mechanisms leading to tendon failure involve the rapid loading of an already tensed tendon. Proposed mechanisms of loading or overloading that result in an Achilles tendon failure include a dorsiflexion force to the ankle with a strong contraction of the triceps surae muscle, pushing off of the weight-bearing foot with the knee in extension, and a strong dorsiflexion force on the plantar flexed ankle.2 Between 75% and 85 % of ruptures have been associated with athletic activities or racquet and ball sports.1

Compared to the general population, athletes in the National Football League (NFL) are at increased risk for injury because the game involves explosive acceleration and sudden changes in direction.3 Very little is known about the epidemiology of Achilles tendon ruptures in the NFL. Utilizing data publicly available on the Internet, one retrospective review identified 31 Achilles tendon ruptures in NFL players over a five-year period (5.2 injuries/year).3 During the 2008-2009 NFL season, six players suffered season-ending Achilles tendon ruptures. Although the incidence of Achilles rupture is low, 0.93% per NFL game, nearly 36% of affected players never return to playing at the NFL level.

Achilles tendon ruptures can have dramatic career implications for the athlete. These are complex injuries, with surgical intervention being only the first step in the recovery. The ultimate return to function is based on a variety of variables, some of which are controllable by the surgeon, athlete, and therapists. Ultimately, more research will be needed to examine these injuries and their outcomes to determine the ideal protocols for treatment of the competitive athlete.

That's great in all but what does ACL tears have to do with Crabtree tearing his achilles? You couldnt wait to jump in here and bring up "injuriezzzz", as I'm sure you are jumping for joy that we a significant injury to deal with already. So we can feel as Packer fans have felt these past few years. Its our turn right? So now we can feel like the sky is falling and use "injuriezzzz" as an excuse they way Packers fans have been known to do right? There will be no excuses. A guy goes down, others guys will have to step up. It's football and "injuriezzz" happen.

This may be news to you but we have actually had players injured before...starters even, believe it or not. I'm sure you and your Packer brethren are estatic at the prospect of more "injuriezzzz" for us Niners, as we've been oh so lucky for oh so long correct? But "injuriezzz" won't save you, come week 1. Bank on it. And you might want to ask Demaryius Thomas how awful achilles injuries are, as he's managed to come back a better, more productive player after tearing his achilles. But thanx for the info though.

I mean really, who goes into another teams forum, trying to gloat about a injury? And don't tell me that's wasn't your intent because I've read your forums, you've been talking **** about us and how lucky we've been with injuries and how we were due for months now.

What a horrid day, I can't remember worse news in May. What an emotional roller coaster compared to yesterday's great news.....wow, just wow. Please AJ, pull your head out of your ass and please be at least a legit #3 WR!!

There is a lot of hope between Lockette and Patton to compete with Kyle and AJ for the 3rd and 4th WR positions, one of these guys will emerge. Also, this could mean a lot more targets for Vance McDonald..

Having Crabs would be better but the sky is not falling. This isn't the 2005 roster where Battle was our best WR. There are options to fill-in on this team and the cream will rise to the top. I believe VD will get more touches, which in the long run, will be better for the team as Kap was relying a lot on Crabs last year. For him to take the next step throwing, he needs to continue developing chemistry with the other WRs, TEs and RBs that have hands (GORE, Hunter, LMJ).

What's intriguing about Lockette is that Harbaugh brought him up out of no where and couldn't stop singing his praises. Coming from a guy like Harbaugh, that excites me.

He's got the size and speed combo that's impressive. It comes down to how good of a football player he is. I have some feeling about Patton that he's going to be a guy that steps up and eventually becomes their #2 WR for a long while. He was a second round value (mainly because he was a small school guy) that slipped into the 4th and he seems to be built right, both mentally and physically. I'm not ready to give up on Jenkins at all but I think Patton might end up having the more productive career of the two. I also think that Vance McDonald will contribute a lot more than expected as a rookie.

Goodwin takes pay cut

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ncreases-odds/

That allows us to sign all out draft picks now. Still doesn't leave us enough room to sign any free agent WRs, nor trade for one. I think we'll work with what we've got as far as the WR corps go.

Or, you know, the QB is more important than a WR. If Kaep is the real deal, it won't be a big deal.

The writing on the wall was with this as we discussed. It happened earlier than I thought, which means Kilgore and/or Looney looked good in OTA's. The Niners wouldn't have played roulette (take put cut or leave) with a well-respected veteran player that is the brains/anchor in the middle of the best O-Line in football if they were afraid of who would be his fill-in. This will all but guarantee that he makes the team (as they gave him more guaranteed money) and that he'll be the stop-gap at the Center position to whomever will take it over in 2014.

Everybody's talking about Patton, Lockette, and Jenkins and who will step up and help fill the shoes of Crabtree. But everyone is overlooking this guy, who I think will be a major contributor 2013. He fits in so well with our offense, with the myriad of skills he possesses and the many ways he can be utilized.

It's exciting because we haven't had a legitimate competition for a starting spot in a while, and now we have 2; FS and WR.

Harbaugh has come out and said that Jenkins, Patton, and Lockette will compete for Crab's spot. It's going to be fun watching these guys step up.

Goodwin took a paycut. This will help us sign our remaining draft picks which I believe is just our first rounder, FS Eric Reid. Could also allow us to sign a WR in June. While I think the team will wait until after training camp, im actually hoping for the Titans to release WR Kenny Britt. I'm not really a fan of his but he's young and for one year, could be a steal. Either him or another Titans WR Nate Washington. Either way, I see us signing another WR by pre-season unless Jenkins and Patton emerge in training camp.

^^^ Nice. Only draft pick left to sign is FS Eric Reid. Once other first rounders get signed, he'll follow.

*shrugs*

I think the team hired him in case Fangio eventually leaves and can move Mangini into the DC spot. Other than that, I dont see the point in hiring him.

Just read that they hired Mangini as an OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT....hmmm, considering he's been a defensive coach except for one year in Baltimore, am I the only one who doesnt like this move at all? Seriously, we have Harbaugh and even Roman...why the hell do we need Mangini???

Sorry but I dont like this at all. And he better not cause any problems.
