Default End of an Era: Tebow’s camp is privately admitting he’s done in the NFL

Quote:
The news around Tim Tebow has been quiet since he was cut by the Jets, but it’s been widely assumed that Tebow is still hoping to catch on with some NFL team. The people advising Tebow, however, may have come to the conclusion that there simply isn’t an NFL team willing to give him a shot.

David Fleming writes in ESPN the Magazine that members of Tebow’s camp are privately admitting that his NFL run is probably over.

Although Tebow did have some success as the Broncos’ starting quarterback, leading Denver to a playoff win after the 2011 season, Fleming quotes an unnamed scout as saying that even during his best run with the Broncos, the work he put on tape did nothing for NFL personnel people.

“He’s not a quarterback,” the scout said. “When you look at his run two years ago, when you watch the tape and break it down, he wasn’t really doing anything that impressive. He’s a tough guy, a great leader, a great person. But he isn’t a good enough quarterback to have all the distractions that come with him.”

Among the problems NFL teams have identified about Tebow, according to the report, are that he has a hard time remembering plays, he didn’t run the offense well and got the Broncos flagged for delay of game too often, he struggled to read defenses and he didn’t have the self-awareness to know what he wasn’t doing well and work on improving those issues.

There’s also, obviously, the fundamental issue of passing accuracy: Tebow’s career completion rate of 47.9 percent is way too low, and Fleming describes a scene in Broncos practice in which coach John Fox was aghast to see Tebow throw a pass so badly that it landed on the ground far in front of the intended receiver’s feet.

Add it all up, and no matter how exciting a season he had with the Broncos in 2011, Tebow just doesn’t look like an NFL quarterback. He and the people around him may be coming around to accepting that.

You're right. I'm not ending my career as an astronaut. It's just NASA will never hire me to be an astronaut... Tebow will never sign with another team.

It is all crap because no one will even give him a chance any more because of the the Jet's coaching staff and how he was treated in NYJ.

Yea it is a little sad he won't switch to another position but don't hate him even more because of that.

There should be a few teams out there that can use him at least as a back up QB . Browns, Jags, Cards and probably one or two more teams can use him as a back up at the very least.

Again some of you will never support him because he can't play. But oh well.

I have read in a few different posts where you insinuate that the Jets somehow screwed him and his career over. Would you please elaborate on what you mean by this?

Screw the NFL, Tim. Go to Canada and learn to throw at a pro football standard. All Tebow needs to do is become more competent as a passer, not turn into Peyton Manning.

If Tebow can't catch on in the CFL and refine his throwing motion and get more familiar with pro passing route concepts and learn how to diagnose passing defenses, then his career is done because apparently no NFL franchise wants to invest the time to develop him.

I still say Tebow has more 'it' when the game is on the line than 90% of the starting QBs in the NFL. Tim just needs to understand as of right now he's not as good as he thinks he is.

And for all those teams saying they won't entertain the idea of bringing Tebow into their organization because of his fanbase, that's pure crap.

Of course Tebow fans were vocal in Denver; he was a first round pick and Orton looked like garbage. Same situation in NY, the starting QB looked worse than Tebow ever did as a starter.

Good NFL QBs aren't going to be threatened by the presence of Tim Tebow on the bench.

The blueprint is out there for him, Tebow needs to go somewhere so he can get coaching and play meaningful football.

Warren Moon and Doug Flutie did it. All depends if Tebow can humble his ego and how bad he wants it.

He'll probably go to Canada and win the Grey Cup on an annual basis while throwing for 52% and rushing for 25 touchdowns every year.

Jags fans are rellishing in this. They say they don't care about Tebow but all they do on Twitter is take cheap shots at the guy. Tebow has more wins in nine starts than the Jags have had in two years. But yeah keep thinking he wouldn't make the team better than Blaine Gabbert.

If casual NFL fans weren't like 49erNation85 Tebow might have had a nice career as a backup and perhaps developed into a legit dual-threat H-back if he never developed as a passer.

Flat out he isn't worth the work that will be required to turn him into a PASSABLE BACKUP given the idiotic media/fan following he will receive on arrival. The original post summed it up nicely.

He is an excellent leader. He is a tough guy. He works VERY hard. The aforementioned post summed it up nicely.

He is an awesome role model and citizen. He will never garner the support of scouts due to the fact he cannot play his position at a passable level.

Why should anyone support a player that can't play? Why is Tebow special but thousands of NFL hopefuls are not? Come on man, this is just getting ridiculous from you now. Well, I say now, but it has been ridiculous from the start.

I'd like to be happy about this, but I have a feeling this will only lead to some form of an accelerated run for a political office that I will have to hear about nonstop.

In 85's defense, he clearly meant NFL team's won't let him play, therefore he "can't play." Still a poor choice of words.

Oh, and I'd absolutely love it if the Bears signed him. So there's that.

It has nothing to do with him. No NFL team wants to put up with a bench player/project while the media is a constant nuisance. It causes more problems than it's worth.

That's not to say that his popularity is a product of his own doing, but even if he were willing to change positions - no team is going to waste the time.

I don't think anyone is insane enough to want Blaine Gabbert, but there are good reasons why not to want a player who is (marginally) better. Would you rather have Blaine Gabbert give you Teddy Bridgewater (or whoever emerges) or take on a guy who gets you 8 wins a year and knocked out the game you get a serious playoff team.

The problem isn't the QB. It's the rest of the guys that have to hear about why they are the reason they lose but Tim is the reason why they win. That gets on your nerves after a while. Look at how people treat the Florida championship teams. Those teams were stacked with talent, but the one player everyone gives credit to for winning 2 national championships (even when he was a backup QB on one of those teams...) is Tim Tebow.

No team wants to deal with that kind of media problems. The issue is the only player more popular than Tim Tebow is in Denver, where Tim isn't going back. NE isn't interested because of the media circus. Neither is NY(G). The Saints make the most sense of anyone, but if the situation is as said scout described then no team is really going to be interested then.

There has to be some explanation as to why they do the things they do in Jet land. Sabotaging Tebow is as plausible as any other reason other than gross incompetence.

Tim Tebow WAS the reason Florida won a NC when he was a starter. Their defense was good but it wasn't beastly. Let's not even bring up his college career because he was a GREAT college QB. So were ALex Smith and Kellen Moore. It really doesn't have anything to do with the present discussion.

Let's pretend the Giants brought in Tebow to fill the 3rd QB spot on the roster. Who in the NY media is EVER going to seriously pose the question, 'Why isn't Tebow starting over Eli?' That question is just never going to be asked. Never ever. There won't be chants for Tebow in the stands because he doesn't have fans who root for the Giants who believe he's an improvement over Eli.

Tebow was a distraction in Denver because their QB situation was terrible. Same thing with the Jets.

I just don't see where this issue of Tebow being an automatic lockerroom and team distraction for EVERY team in the NFL is coming from.

In a way it sucks that Denver got rid of Tebow after signing Manning. I think learning the position as best he could under Peyton really would have boosted his development.
Peyton gave overtures when he signed with Denver that he looked forward to being on the same team as Tebow. If Elway and Fox were that pissed off Denver fans wanted him to replace Kyle Orton, they need to grow up because last I checked Orton isn't starting anywhere in 2013.

I've just never heard of a situation where no NFL team wanted to sign a developmental QB because he was popular and posed too much of a threat to the frail psyches of the head coach, the GM and the starting QB.

THe NFL has so many bad QBs, or QBs who sucked forever but were given chance after chance to develop, that when a guy who brings so much to the table as a football player and IMO just needs a few more years of intensive coaching and reps under center is told to kick rocks, it doesn't seem right.

I completely disagree with this statement. If Tebow decided that he wanted to become a TE/HB there would be a dozen teams ready to give him a tryout tomorrow.

It would be hilarious to see him do a 360 in the backfield as he gets the ball or doing it when hitting the hole if he became a FB/RB or whatever.

it's massively entertaining to me, how many people want to ignore that the mental aspects of the game, in one way or another, are completely out of his grasp. you can't fix stupid.

You don't have any clue about Tebow's ability to grasp or assimilate a pro playbook. Anything negative you hear about the guy it seems you automatically extrapolate to be absolute fact and some immutable positional flaw possessed by Tebow.

When you're out there on a practice field going through reps with your WRs, you're attempting to get better. The problem some of his critics have is Tebow apparently doesn't understand how much work he needs to do. That's what a coach is for.

When you watch him you see a guy who too often is processing what's happening on the field too slowly. I've never seen a guy who was 'football stupid' for the QB position.

What I don't understand is the guy won a playoff game for your franchise and you hate him like he stole a Broncos SB trophy.

And are you really qualified to call the guy lazy??
