NC State picks up 2 more commitments this weekend bringing their total to 22!

They got 3* OL Terrone Prescod and 3* DT Deshaywn Middleton.

One thing I always look at when non-AQ coaches move onto BCS programs is how they adjust to the differences in recruiting. At NC State, Doeren has better access to higher quality in-state talent than he did at NIU, but thus far other than a 4* DL and DB it seems like he is still recruiting like he's at NIU.

Even looking at 4* DL Justin Jones, other than Louisville and Miami, his offer list is extremely unimpressive. 4* DB Germaine Pratt is better with offers from Notre Dame and Tennessee and appears to be the jewel of the class. Unless he is the foremost expert in identifying elite under the radar talent, I think so far this doesn't appear to be a great hire for State.

Why would an elite prospect want to go to NC State?

Star ranking of his first recruiting class is definitely the way to evaluate a new coach.

It isn't that as much as evaluating how he adapts his process. As of July 1 with 7 months to go to NSD, they have 22 commitments, of which 20 are rated 3* or lower. Their fan said earlier he thought they'd take a class of 25, so they have room for about 3-5 left (accounting for decommitments). It isn't like we're looking at a class he had a few weeks to put together, this is is first full class as their coach and in a talent plentiful state they seem to settling early and often.

He's still insecure that FSU lost to NC State. For a minute it almost seemed like he was making a post about something else than Florida State, but it all comes around.

A state that is heavily recruited by Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, and a lot of other SEC and B1G schools.

So, again, why would one expect Dave Doeren to set the world on fire at NC State? He's not doing much worse than UNC, which perception-wise is the superior program.

His 33-4 record as a head coach, only surpassed the past 2 years by Alabama, Oregon, and Boise State. Along with being one of very few non-AQ coaches to get his team to a BCS game (even if he didn't coach said game)

Maybe he's continued his process of not giving a **** what a bunch of journalists think?

Or maybe he is literally going "I know these guys are only 3* on Rivals but I'll take their commitments anyway", I really don't know.

He inherited a program that Jerry Kill built for him. Almost all of his best players were recruited by Kill, and he's hardly setting the recruiting world on fire at Minnesota.

Also, it's still NC State. Until he starts winning there I can't see him turning the heads of a lot of the top recruits.

Which would certainly be one thing if they were 3* kids with other BCS offers, but look at the last 2 kids. Middleton's best offer that wasn't from NC State was from Wake Forest, after that a bunch of FCS teams.

Over the past decade or so NC State has done a good job of putting players into the NFL, namely at the QB position where the list includes Rivers, Russell Wilson (I am sure B1G fans will claim 99% of that goes to Wisconsin though), and last draft Mike Glennon as the 3rd QB off the board.

But none of that has to do with Doeren.

And if you have the option of attending a school that will put players into the NFL and compete for a conference title (a real conference at that), you'd still probably take that.

Also, a lot of Russell Wilson should go to Wisconsin. He really wasn't much of a draft prospect until he had his great season there.

And if you have the option of attending a school that will put players into the NFL and compete for a conference title (a real conference at that), you'd still probably take that.

Also, a lot of Russell Wilson should go to Wisconsin. He really wasn't much of a draft prospect until he had his great season there.
The only thing that held Wilson back as a draft prospect was his size, that didn't change at Wisconsin. Tom O'Brien got Matt Ryan into the NFL and spent 4 years developing Russell Wilson in a NFL friendly college offense (that was much more akin to what he ran in Seattle than Wisconsin's offense).

Schools get reputations for putting players in the league and ACC does it as well as anyone who isn't the SEC. I love when B1G fans say the ACC isn't a real conference when it is better than the B1G.

So Wilson was a 3rd round pick coming out of NC State?

Also, you are statistically wrong about your last point, but who cares? Nobody takes you seriously anyway.

2013 NFL Draft, ACC produced 30 selections, the B1G produced 20. I suppose without FSU that the B1G had 20 selections to the ACC's 19.
