I'm concerned about Huff. Ihedigbo not so much, but just because I already knew he was trash as a starter.

Huff is concerning me as well. I think the communication in the secondary in general was ****. New players and playing Manning really caused a lot of confusion. I hope we can tighten that up .

We just signed RB Shaun Draughn, primarily as a special teams guy. May also see him return kicks.

**** the Browns for picking up Bobby Rainey.

That's the risk for not keeping a back up returner who offers things besides returns. We had 2 of them in reed and Rainey and we took the risk and lost :(

We also have Deonte Thompson and even Mellette (who is now on IR), but we where just hit by the injury bug in the worst place possible.

Pierce is looking like the better runner right now. Rice is better at everything else though, and he's pretty much just as big a part of the passing game as he is the running game. Flacco's going to miss Rice quite a bit I think if he's out for any period of time.

The most impressive thing for me with Marlon Brown is his attiude and mental toughness. He definetly plays like a Raven we got a steal in him.

Just saw this rep message from earlier this year...

"Since when was Ray Lewis a big hitter? Scrape-and-flow, period, the end"

That's a bold strategy Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him.

So other than the awful second half in Denver the defense is looking as good as we thought it would. I can't wait until the defensive line is actually healthy. Arthur Brown needs to get back too.

Can somebody please introduce Jim Caldwell to his Rbs. Seriously, how do you call 35 pass plays and 7 rushes against a terrible rush defense like Buffalo? Going down 20-7 doesn't justify calling 18 pass plays and 0 rushes to start the second half. I get that Rice has been hurt but at least feed Pierce the ball. The Ravens are not the Packers and Flacco is not Aaron Rodgers. They're not going to win games with playcalling like this.

9 runs in one game is appalling but the blocking from the offensive line is even worse. There's just nothing there for either Rice or Pierce. And this was against one of the worst rush defenses in the league so far this year. There is something seriously wrong with the offensive line (pass blocking isn't very good either) and I'm wondering if Castillo is to blame. I know he's technically the "run game coordinator" but I think we can all agree he's likely responsible for more than that. Even if he isn't Moeller sucks pretty bad as a offensive line coach anyways. Back to Castillo - if he's trying to fit Baltimore's players into his preferred scheme then it isn't going to work. Baltimore isn't equipped to run the zone looks Castillo has always used.

Sucks to see the game end on the worst call in NFL history but hey the Bills deserved the win. Some random thoughts...

Torrey Smith is a machine should be a pro bowl contender this year.

I see no reason to keep Dickson around. We should cut him or IR him IDC and bring Furstenberg up from the PS squad.

I agree with the poster above who said we need to get Castillo out of here. His ZBS doesn't fit and the oline is a disaster.

Going with the previous comment Gradkowski needs to improve.

The one drive we looked good in was on that Torrey Smith TD. Flacco connected to Clark early we got into a rhythm with the no huddle offense and we scored. That shows how important Pitta was to this offense.

Deonte Thompson showed some skills as a WR with his first game back. Some nice catches on comeback routes and that nice deep bomb. I hope he passes his concussion tests and is back for Miami.

If we get Jones and Pitta back I think our offense will do just fine with Smith/Jones/Pitta/Thompson/Brown as our weapons for Flacco I just hope we can all be healthy enough for a post season run.

It's hard to be critical of the blocking schemes when you only rush 9 times. It was as if Caldwell was watching a different game with his playcalling. They were only down 13 at half and yet he ran the ball exactly 2 times in the second half. It would be one thing if the passing game was effective but that clearly wasn't the case. It was as if he thought they were in a shootout and needed to keep pace but their defense actually played well. This was an embarrassing loss that never should have happened. In my opinion the biggest cause was the abandonment of the running game.

Have you actually watched Baltimore this season? The blocking schemes have been bad in every game. Not just against the Bills. Especially in the running game. Before today they were averaging 2.6 yards per attempt. 2.6. Any it wasn't looking any more promising against Buffalo either. I don't think abandoning the run is a good idea but it's not going to help anything if the running game is as bad as that.

Makes me wonder if not running the ball was a statement from Caldwell like. If your gonna tell te oline to do this then we aren't gonna run the ball

They did play against good run defenses though. Denver has been the best run defense in the league based on ypg and ypc. Cleveland has been #4 in ypg and #2 in ypc. Houston has been average but they're the top overall defense in total ypg. Even if their running game isn't great you still can't abandon it in a low scoring game against a bad run defense.

I'm not saying that the schemes aren't necessarily bad but even a bad running game is better than no running game. You've got to keep the defense honest to a degree. They're not going to win many games in which Flacco throws it 50+ times and they rush under 10 times.

No, a completely ineffective running game is not better than no running game. We saw how the offense looked in the first half when they were making an attempt to run the ball. I understand your point and where you're coming from but I truly believe that the running game/blocking is bad enough where it's the exception to the rule. I'm not particularly fond of Flacco throwing so much, especially when some of the options he has are so unreliable (Dickson needs to be gone, he can't catch or block effectively), but it's what they're left with.

I was punting kittens all day after the loss yesterday, until I saw this:

Torrey Smith and his GF are officially awesome.

I'm not particularly fond of Flacco throwing so much, especially when some of the options he has are so unreliable (Dickson needs to be gone, he can't catch or block effectively), but it's what they're left with.
I think we pretty much agree and are just arguing different points. I'm just saying that they need to figure out their run game asap. If they think there's a problem with the blocking schemes than they need to try to fix that. Their solution to a bad running game can't be "screw it just let Flacco throw 50 times a game". That's not going to win them many games.

This is the second big trade of the season already. Such a rare sight in football to see even one trade this big during the season.

I think this is actually a good trade for both teams. The ravens need the o-line help desperately and it comes at a cheap price. The Jags aren't competing this year and they have Joeckel to take over the left side. Also Monroe's contract ends this year and there was no way he was coming back so might as well get what you can for him now.
