Yeah we aren't. A mediocre defense with one of the worst o lines in football and running games as well. There isn't a elite center prospect we can take in the 15th pick range so we will see what we do.
North - Bengals
South - Colts
East - Patriots
West - Broncos
WC 1 - Chiefs
WC 2 - Jets/Titans/Dolphins
We don't have much if any room for error from here on out.
Our run game is pathetic, an absolute joke. It needs to get fixed because Flacco isn't the type of QB that can put the team on his back and throw for 330+ and 3 TD's and lead his team to victory. I know we paid him like 1 but he simply isn't, he needs a productive run game and a decent offensive line.
We get Cincy next week. Thankfully it's at home, then @ Chicago likely without Cutler. I'm not really afraid of the Jets, but they are playing much harder than we are. Steelers, Vikings and Lions are all winnable but with how we have played this year, I don't wanna get my hopes up. I see us finishing 7-9 or 8-8.
Until the blocking gets fixed the offense and team is going nowhere. Pierce has been just as ineffective as Rice this year and I really doubt both of them have regressed that much. The common factor is the blocking, and Flacco has suffered because of poor pass-protection as well. Monroe is definitely an upgrade over McKinnie but the LG-C duo is where most of the problems are coming from. It just sucks. To be honest what I would like to see is Yanda moved in to C and have Reid and Wagner play LG and RG. It can't get any worse so why not. Something has to be done.
it will be interesting to see what we do salary cap wise because we are in such a freaking tight spot there. Rice Ngata Yanda Webb account for 35% of next years cap. We need to re-sign Monroe but IDK if we can. IDK what we will do at center because we wont have the $ to bring in a quality FA probably just a vet on a 1 year deal. Im hoping we sign a C that is servicable and go BPA in the draft. So far there isnt a Center that screams they are going to be worth a pick in the 16 range. I think we go TE or best defensive player available. Im hoping we get Hasean Clinton-Dix
No. Leadership wouldn't fix the issues along the offensive line which is what I think is the far and away biggest problem. Now having Birk instead of Gradkowski starting would probably go a long ways but that's just because how bad Gradkowski is as a player disregarding the leadership aspect. I wasn't upset they didn't go after a higher profile option at center this past offseason and gave Gino a chance but it's proved to be the wrong move.
This isn't related to the leadership question I'm actually pretty happy with the receiver play thus far. Baltimore could use a legitimate #2 option but I think they could get by without one if there isn't one taken high in the draft. That's assuming the offensive line and running game is fixed though. If not they're going to need elite pass-catching options. And that still probably wouldn't get them very far.
I'm not really seeing a problem with the defense besides them constantly being put in a terrible position. The Ravens aren't elite on that side of the ball but even if they were it would be a struggle to constantly shut teams down.
Only the Jaguars have a worse percentage of their drives being 3-and-outs. It's sickening, especially when the talent is there for the most part. The only thing I'm really concerned about with the defense is not having a free safety out there and the horridness of McClain and Graham. Ihedigbo is starting to look like his former (and real) self too.
We definetely should look at WR in the draft for a #2. Perhaps Mike Evans or Sammy Watkins. But I really like our young guns. I think Brown or Doss or even Thompson could develop into that role.
I think TE will be something we look at as well since this season shows how our offense looks without a TE who is in rhythm with Flacco.
knowing Ozzie we will look at best defensive player available. Since there is basically no chance we re-sign Arthur Jones we will need someone who can come in and play 5 tech. IDK if Deangelo Tyson is good enough to get a lot of playing time.
I think we'll see either Ngata move out to DE again or Williams get the nod there if they don't add somebody capable of starting. I think that's where Williams has gotten most of his limited playing time this season and he's looked pretty good so I wouldn't worry much about him out there. Depth would still be an issue though. Tyson isn't my ideal candidate for the top backup at DE. He's a solid run-defender but doesn't add much else. Of course it wouldn't surprise me to see McPhee go back to being listed as a DE, but his role wouldn't really change as a pass-rush specialist.
Cody depends on his price. I think they should bring him back but it wouldn't be surprising to see some other team offer him a starting role with more money.
I keep forgetting about Lewis-Moore. If he's healthy next season that's a pretty solid addition to the defensive line. It wouldn't totally rule out bringing in a more high-profile DL depth option but it could allow Baltimore to take a guy in the mid/late rounds to round out the defensive line depth chart instead of spending money on a free agent or drafting one higher.
the big men who will be on the team next year so far are Ngata,canty,williams,tyson,Kapron-Lewis. Im confident Canty/Ngata/Williams can contribute Im not sold on tyson and KL being anything more then here and there rotational guys. If we get a FS and build up our oline we may not be able to add depth on the dline. If thats the case we could do a lot more 43 looks with the basic depth chart looking like this.
I'm not sure if the personnel fits switching to a 4-3 too well anymore. Suggs, Dumervil, and McPhee fit as pass-rushers but Simon doesn't seem like a full-time end to me. Ngata and Williams would do well on the inside but Canty is definitely better as an end in the 3-4 and Lewis-Moore doesn't profile great there either. Tyson is meh, he's probably about the same solid run-defender anywhere. The linebackers are the real problem. Obviously Brown would do well as a 4-3 WLB but everybody else would be pretty bad fits. McClain and Bynes would be especially horrible, even more than they are now. Upshaw might be okay but definitely better off as a 3-4 SAM.
It would be an interesting situation. The Ravens should have 9 picks in the draft after trading for Monroe (assuming they get 4 compensation picks, but sent 2 of their own to Jacksonville) so not having enough won't be an issue. My preference might just be to stay put and take quality over quantity but that all depends on how the board falls. Could be enough players left that they would get the same quality a few later so why not try and add some more picks.
The only way I want Reed to sign with the Ravens if it's to retire

when do we give Ryan Jensen a shot at C? We obviously see something in him because we kept him on the active roster when he was hurt. If Gino doesnt blow that snap Flacco scores a TD w/ his eyes closed on the last play.
I want to see Shipley or Jensen in at C over Gradkowski. Harbaugh said that Jensen is probably a backup at guard this year so it's not likely he gets time there but there's no reason why Shipley shouldn't. Start Reid or Wagner at LG and see what happens. Just get that bum Gino out of there. I wanted him to get a shot before they took a different C high in the draft or paid for one in free agency but it obviously hasn't worked out.
Jimmy Smith has been playing out of his freaking mind the past few weeks. In the next two years we will need to re sign Monroe,Pitta,Torrey,Jimmy. Is there anyway we can keep them all together? Would you guys let either monroe or Pitta walk for Jimmy?
Pitta probably won't be getting anything big in terms of money. He'll be 29 next season and had a fairly serious injury this year. Suggs' deal ends after next season at the same time Jimmy and Torrey Smith so there's some relief. I highly doubt Suggs gets another sizable contract and if he does it won't be with Baltimore. I'm expecting something to happen with Ngata and his deal too. That one ends a year after Suggs' does so it wouldn't be too restricting anyways given how the new contracts of guys like Monroe, and either Smith would probably be structured. Then there's Rice too. Whatever the reason he's not producing at the rate that a contract that big demands and if it continues next year there's no doubt in my mind he either gets cut or has his deal reworked.
One thing to keep in mind with Jimmy is Webb's contract. I don't think they will keep two corners on the roster with big contracts. One them is probably going to go. I'm not sure who I'd prefer to keep at this point. Webb's durability scares me, but it's not like Jimmy has been that durable either. Just no major knee injuries with him.
To sum it up I'm not really concerned about Baltimore's cap situation for the next couple of seasons. There are definitely moves that can and probably should be made to open up cap space if need be. They're likely not going to be players on the free agent market unless it's guys that come at a good price that wouldn't make a big dent in the available money.
