Chicago Homicides Outnumber U.S. Troop Killings In Afghanistan
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1602692.html

Quote:
As Chicago deals with a surge of murders that, thus far this year, has outpaced that of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, the Chicago Police Department has assigned at least 100 officers to secure the wedding of White House advisor Valerie Jarrett's daughter.

The Chicago Sun-Times' Michael Sneed reports that between 100 and 200 Chicago police officers will be on site to help "secure the perimeter" of the wedding.

The Daily pointed out in a Friday column that more Chicago residents -- 228 -- have been killed so far this year in the city than the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan - 144 -- over the same period.

The war zone-like statistics are not new. As WBEZ reports, while some 2,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed by gun fire in Chicago during that time, based on Department of Defense and FBI data.

Chicago's murder rate is also currently quadruple that of New York and double Los Angeles' rate.
Chicago has a lot of violent criminals, but Detroit is the most despicable big city I've ever seen in America.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/09/...well-anything/

Quote:
Chicago had more murders than any other city in the United States. According to the FBI, that number was 500. The Chicago Police put that number nearer 506. Whichever number you use, we can agree that it’s too high.
Again, Detroit is worse.

I'd rather have my "wife's vagina" and valuables stolen than be associated with something that produces Snooki and wannabes.

8 Mile, Eminem, Kid Rock vs Snooki, Jersey Boys, Gigli

its not even close

Detroit churches post 'Thou shalt not kill' billboards around city

November 12th, 2013

DETROIT - A wave of gun violence in Detroit has prompted local church leaders to inundate the city with "Thou shalt not kill" posters and billboards in hopes of quelling the violence.

A coalition of clergy leaders held an emergency meeting on Nov. 7 to develop a plan to promote the message of the Sixth Commandment in the community, WWJ-TV reported.

“We all have to do what we can do, and right now we don’t have a respect in our communities for life; we don’t have a respect for many things,” a local minister, Ovella Andreas, told the station. “But we still have to create a standard to hopefully have a consciousness about God …. because even our people have become apathetic.”

The group, which spearheaded efforts to get the city to designate the 22nd day of each month as “Stop the Violence Day,” hopes to saturate the community with the campaign by placing posters on the sides of buses, billboards and at area businesses.

“This is an emergency; this is a crisis, and we have to come together now to do what we can,” Andreas told WWJ-TV. “I truly know if we do what we can, God will do what we cannot; but we’re not doing all that we can.”

Last week, three men were fatally shot in a back gambling room of an east side barbershop. Authorities have identified a convicted felon as a person of interest and believe the shooting may have stemmed from an ongoing feud

My biggest problem with what he said is that he wasn't talking about the crime rate or anything like that, but the financial problems. Yes, there may be a correlation between the two, but it still comes across as him being a dick. You just got swept bro, stop with the sour grapes.

In over 30 years in Chicago I've never even seen a gun that wasn't being carried by a cop. I've spent plenty of time all around the city (not in the ghetto) and have never seen someone robbed or knifed or whatever. Other than the very localized ghetto, Chicago is a hell of a nice town with a hefty police presence keeping the gun-toting types in their own area. Daley Jr. really made the place beautiful in his time.

Some things...

1- Brandon Marshall is an ass, accept the domination

2- Shut up BBD, there are plenty of decent parts of Detroit and I'm in it right now

3- Stop associating Kid Rock with Detroit. We have Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Bell and Bruce Campbell in addition to Eminem.

4- You make New Jersey worse by failing at your job as the most useless planeteer, BBD

5- Chicago and Detroit aren't that different

I've been to Detroit. Several times. I have family out there. It's not a nice place. Especially in the winter, when the smog from the factories makes the snow all grey and disgusting. It's really a polluted disgusting city.

And all the abandoned buildings don't add to the ambiance either. There's one section of the city that is pretty nice but as a whole, the place is pretty terrible.

I've been there. Don't necessarily have anything "bad" to say, but downtown is a bit depressing. We stayed in the Renaissance downtown. Went out to walk around on a Saturday morning and it felt like a scene out of I Am Legend. Unless there is a sporting event it seems like nobody goes downtown on the weekend.

i generally wouldn't stay downtown unless i was intending to do activities downtown. that said, i've never once felt remotely unsafe in downtown detroit. *shrug*
North Jersey is basically a bunch of city suburbs on the outskirts of NYC. Everyone in North Jersey goes to NYC for the most part, that's our "city". We don't even refer to it as New York, we simply call it "the city"

You live in a nice home in NJ, and when you go out, you go out to the city. That's NJ life.

And we have Philly and AC conveniently right there too. And the shore. NJ is a great place to live in. There's a reason why it's the richest state in the country. Lots of major money pockets all condensed in one small area.

And I don't think it's fair to compare the poor parts of NY to any other city in the country other than LA, and maybe SF bc of the sheer size of NYC.

NYC is huge, manhattan alone is larger than almost every city in the country. You just have a ton more city in NY.

Southbeach for example is like 6 blocks of amazingness with crap all around it. NYC feels like it's own state, it's so huge.

That's why whenever NYers or ppl accustomed to going to NYC go anywhere else, it just doesn't feel the same. Other cities are too small, and the nice parts aren't big enough.

and some really, really horrific neighborhoods. and yet, you're not judging NYC on those tiny areas.

re-reading your post, i'm honestly not sure if you're apple-bbd right now or not.
Come on now, no one goes to Newark unless they have absolutely no choice. I've lived in North Jersey practically my whole life, and I can count on my fingers how many times I've gone to Newark. You can simply avoid that hell hole if you choose to.

I won't disagree with you on Philly, I don't go there myself. But some people like it. *shrug*. I see no point, I rather just go to NYC. But some people enjoy Philly.

NYC as a whole isn't terrible at all. The crime is waaay overstated. There are many nice parts of Brooklyn. Queens is dirty looking overall but there are some nice places and the overall city is very safe. Harlem is terrible. Avoid Harlem.

The Bronx sucks in general. Avoid the Bronx.

But I love Brooklyn. Brooklyn is great. Just avoid Marcy and Bedstuy and you're good. I enjoy Coney Island, East Brooklyn is nice, and there are a lot of places to go and enjoy that aren't your typical Manhattan "touristy" places.

Queens has lots of places that are great too. I like Astoria. Again, it's pretty dirty but there are nice places to go to.

I love Manhattan but it can get tiresome and touristy to people who are used to it. It's more for outsiders honestly.

NYC is much safer than a lot of cities in this country. It has a bad rep that hasn't been relevant since the early 90s. The city has cleaned up a lot over the years. It's very safe outside a select few places that are dispersed far away from the nice places.

I wouldn't say we felt unsafe. It is just weird to walk around what is a relatively large city on a weekend and see no one else around. We were there for a wedding so hotel wasn't really our choice.

That's not really anything new. Even when Detroit was one of the greatest cities in the world, it was largely a city of...homebodies, for the lack of a better term? It's the antithesis of a City That Never Sleeps.

I've never felt unsafe in Detroit, but I can understand why some people would. It's a familiar environment to me. But if you're coming in from somewhere else and you've only heard that it's a Mad Max wasteland, then I can see why it would seem a bit different.

Pretty much accurate right there.

Yeah, the last graph seems to say that people in poverty are more likely to commit a crime than the average person. That really isn't a graph saying Detroit sucks.
